@jaredbellard27774 жыл бұрын
@@toddk1377 I don't disagree, but when we start talking about ammo weights that's more of a rifling thing. The sweet spot for 5.56/.233 is 1/8 which can stabilize 55gr - 77gr and will support the most popular loadings. If all the barrels lengths I mentioned have that twist rate or faster, it's becomes velocity thing, which we know is derived from barrel length. A 13.7 will keep you in the in the velocity game at longer ranges and you're still using a relatively short rifle. And the key word "rifle". So you can use rifle accessories, rifle stocks, no need to SBR so it's easier to travel with across state borders. I know my logic is subjective because there's so much more that goes into what the individual needs are out of the rifle, but that's why I chose to go the route I did and I like it a lot. My rifle is great for CQB, hunting, truck rifle, and banging steel at range. Which I do it all with.

@viktordamask26802 жыл бұрын
If you're running a short barrel, you wouldn't be using 55 gr. Doing so makes the difference between them seem more dramatic than it is, given that anyone running an 11.5 or 12.5 would likely be using 77 grainers in any real world application.
@Rickjames1272 жыл бұрын
@@viktordamask2680 Most people use 55gr for training. I know one guy that uses 75gr bthp for training. My handload 75gr bthp loaded to 5.56 book max using 26.5gr of cfe 223 achieves 2606avg out of my main 12.5. Similar velocity to the mk262 77gr bthp black hills using the same barrel length. Both the 77gr bthp and the 75gr bthp fragment at 2300fps minimum. So the fragmentation range of an 11.5 at 2506avg is 100-125y roughly and the 12.5 at 2606avg would be 175y roughly. 14.5 at 2650avg would be 200y roughly and that's generous. This is calculated at 6600ft. At sea level the performance is even worse. Depending on what distances you're planning to engage at and what you're ok with sacrificing 11.5 is not a bad option. 12.5 is going to be better in some regards though. Pros and cons to everything. Sofrep has an article that links to an ar15 forum set that shows 10.5, 11.5, 12.5, and 14.5 velocities with a very wide range of factory ammo. Using black hills 77gr bthp their max avg mv per barrel length were as follows. 10.5 2420, 11.5 2491, 12.5 2581, and 14.5 2614. This is what I've observed when building and testing 14.5s vs 12.5s. I've only ever tested other individuals 11.5 builds for velocity. It's a significant jump from 10.5 to 11.5 usually with all ammo. Most now won't even recommend 10.5 because of it. Decent jump from 11.5 to 12.5 but not much extra mv from 12.5 to 14.5. Like anything though pros and cons. 14.5 you can get a longer sight radius on irons more rail space and a longer gas system with the proper dwell time compared to a 11.5 or 12.5 mid.
@adamg5749 ай бұрын
