I had a pearl white 3rd gen '17 base model Dl650. Rode it 30,000 trouble free miles. Traded it in on a '22 Z900RS. Missed the 650 and bought a '22 black DL650 Adventure. Had some hard luck and traded it in on a DL1050 . Didn't like anything about it. Went back and traded it in on a new GSXS1000GT. Took the 1000 on a 2500 mile trip and to tell you the truth, the 650's were all around better bikes. They handled excellent in the twisties, stopped well even with two pot front brakes and RSU forks did well all around. The VTwin was dependable, smooth and torquey. Wind the snot out of it and it pulled excellently. Wish i had them both back in my garage. And BTW, I think they were handsome bikes, no matter what anyone says.

Ehh...I had a dual sport for a year, I don't like the way big front wheels handle on the road. It's 17s for me. I don't dispute that the DL650s are legendary motorcycles.

I’ve owned 2017 yellow 650 XT. 43 000km in one year and no issues. Before that one I’ve owned 10 x 650 (5 of Wee and 5 of Wee2). The same story - no single problem. Owning Yamaha Tracer 900GT and Honda NC750X now but DL650 is still on the top of my list. So versatile and dependable. Great bike.

I had a Yamaha mt07. Bombproof. Comfortable, fast enough, stable and easy to manoeuvre. I used it to ride from the UK to Greece and back in the winter of 2016. Not a problem. I had only passed my test 6 months before.
@aluisious
@aluisious 8 күн бұрын
I'm feeling tempted by the new MT07. Sportier position, electronic throttle, better brakes, usd forks, etc. Only thing is I have a Multistrada which is a great bike, and you can only ride one bike at a time.

@windjackhealthfitness7391 7 күн бұрын
You might consider a lightly used model. The bike only needs one mode. With no slipper clutch it encourages better riding technique through rev matching. Great bike. Wished they still sold the simpler version as well. All the 07's do great with an Aprokovic exhaust.

@windjackhealthfitness7391 I am still on Corfu, and all second hand bikes are stupid money..even the ragged and broken 125 scooters. And a 700 is too much bike for the roads here. I'd be better off with something like a tw 200. Fat old tyres for the rocky olive groves tracks and a soft, economical state of tune for just lugging my gardening tools around. But can I find one? There's the rub. I've seen one burnt out in a village. Beyond my skills to save. No rush.
@aluisious
@aluisious 7 күн бұрын
@ couldn’t you go to the mainland, buy whatever you want, then ferry it back home? I kind of suspect the tw200 might be one of the best bikes of all time for real adventure riding. If you forced me to ride across Africa or South America, I’d think hard about riding one of those. Who wants to drop a 600 pound adventure bike they could never fix in a jungle?

I've heard the BMW 1250 is prone to things breaking off road as well, but for touring, there's nothing better. Except a Goldwing.

I have a 300l Rally. Great bike but the stock suspension is garbage and most will get bored of it lack of power pretty quick. But it is a bike that you can do anything on. The T7 you mention is a great bike!

Nice video, but I think there are much better options to the KTM 390 Adventure. For example the CF 450 MT or the RE Himi 450

I'm very suspicious about this video. I've never known Consumer Reports to rate motorcycles. It would be vehemently against the whole idea, given it's focus on automotive safety. Fake. Also, while I have, enjoy and recommend the KTM 390 (only the 790 & 890 have the crankshaft oiling fault) the video is showing older versions of it, not what was available 4 days ago.

I'm with you. I figured CR would never rate motorcycles until Toyota made one as they are uncommonly fond of the Toyota brand. Yes, Toyota makes good cars but CR has a blind spot about them, imho, in many ways.

Most lists are ten items but I guess you needed to list eleven in order to include the Gold Wing. But I don't think the Gold Wing has more value than other, less expensive options. Gold Wings are over $30,000. That's just too much. You can buy a two year old used in excellent condition Kawasaki touring bike for under $14,000.

Goldwing and value in the same sentence? They are $30,000. How is that value. The MT-07 has a great drivetrain but it has a lot of budget components. The Versys is a nice lightweight touring bike with some crisp handling. Nothing to say about the scout except that it is too small for me. The wee strom is a solid platform. 300l has budget parts. Needs better suspension. Road king is a nice bike, but the Road Glide is better. KTM shound not be on this list. Tenere 700 needs to be offered with tubeless wheels and cruise control. Africa twin set up for adventure touring is going to be in the mid $20s BMW. Not my cup of tea.

That's always a question of taste and experience and for me with sixty years my ass on a bike, the best touring bike is the Victory Vision, uniquely comfortable with its lean back position that allows me iron butt runs of 2500 km in less than 24 hours at my age and the best sport bike is the KTM Duke 890/990 R that can carve small country roads at ridículous speeds. 😊

KTM is bankrupt. Crap quality
@TheCdnLibertarian

@@KennethJoines-th4jk- False news. They are not bankrupt. They have lost share value and profits. They are securing investors, using their reserve fund, and restructuring. They only had one engine with significant problem. Their biggest reason for loss was poor marketing and thinking the motorcycle market would handle subscriptions for feature like the luxury car market. That was a big mistake as the motorcycle market may accept features as options up front they are not the same as luxury car buyers and will not pay subscriptions to have their mode selector stay on.

@KennethJoines-th4jk it's maybe *you* who are a crap biker who does not know how to take care and maintain your bikes because my experience is totally the contrary. Not one of my Dukes have given me any problem - and one was bought second-hand. Moreover, the service has been always perfect without a glitch. And I ride very hard and very long, having made, for instance, round trips of more than 6.000 km in a few days on a Duke 690 thumper to go to rock festivals and raves. :-)

You seem to have redefined what an adventure bike is. You call the Kawasaki Versys and Suzuki V Strom adventure bikes. Look at the tires on these bikes to know their absolute lack of adventure bike status.

I still ride my 1978 Harley Shovelhead. Bought new in 78. I regularly ride my 2006 Harley FLH Twin Cam 88 with S&S upgrades to 100. Zero issues with either bike. Im looking at a Kawasaki KLR to get into the adv style. Do a little fire roading. I cant afford the BMW really just to ride once and a while but of course Id love one. Deffinately AI though. Yesterdays AI video was telling me how the Gold Wings are stacking up in showrooms because of the price.
