Super video - I'd like to see a part two video such as... Preheat cabin using app to prevent wipers and side window damage from frozen water. Use app to unlock door to make it easier than punching handle in icy weather. Take over steering from autopilot to avoid road potholes and debris. Hold windscreen clean button to clean camera to prevent repetitive dry wiping of front windscreen due to dirt covering windscreen camera. Avoid tailing construction vehicles that might fling gravel onto windscreen that is a bit lighter and thinner compared other cars. Avoid car washes that might scratch the paint which is water-based so easier to scratch. Be careful of puncturing battery pack by driving over uneven road. Wash sunscreen from palms of hands as the steering wheel material might get damaged from the chemicals.

Great tips here, every new Tesla owner should check this video and watch all the way to the end. And the tip about not charging the Lithium ION battery to 100% is important both for preserving the life of the battery and for use of regenerative braking. If you use the HOLD setting for one-pedal driving (which I highly recommend - just try it for a week and you'll never go back) then with yoour battery at 100%, there is no more "room" left in your battery to store the energy generated by lifting your foot slightly back on the accelerator pedal. That energy is lost as heat instead. Thanks to Mr. Frugal for these tips.

Thanks for all your information. I am a single user of my Model Y. I have watched many Tesla videos and aware of all these precautions. One thing, I only charge up at home so never use Supercharging. I always charge battery to 90% and with my daily driving always recharge when it gets down to 60%. Just my daily habits. I do not recharge every day due to just around town driving, only when needed. I do precondition in colder weather and set a departure time when I plan to start driving.

my yet to be delivered model y will be my fourth electric vehicle. we leased the first two and still own the third. we charged each one to 100% on a regular basis for the entire 3 year lease on each and weve never had any problems; no heat, no capacity loss, etc. that probably has a lot do with the fact that we rarely ever charge over 12 amps.

It's the Korean cars (Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis) which had a problem of their brake lights not illuminating under one-pedal driving. They fixed that with a software update. Most other EVs don't have that issue.

Yes, you can charge to 100% all the time, is what they told me when I went to pick up my brand new model 3 and first Tesla last week 😊 since it's a LFP battery. I did learn however, that supercharging up to 80%-90% from less than 20% is most efficient. That last 10% takes a longer time, especially from 99% to 100% while it's calibrating. I'm never doing that again at a Supercharging station 😅

@@marinehero This is not correct. OP stated that he has a Model Y, and there is no LFP battery option for the Y. Only newer Model 3 SR has a LFP option. The easiest way to confirm your battery is to check the Charging screen. As shown in the video, cars with NCM batteries will show a message stating to keep below 80% SoC for routine driving. LFP battery cars do not display that message when dragging the charge limit slider above 80%.

You don't. Preconditioning your battery is meant for speeding up a DC fast-charging session. You're not fast-charging in your garage! Soon as you plug in, the car is going to condition the battery for recharging. Preconditioning is you just trying to get a head-start on the warm-up process before you reach a Supercharger station.

Do the batteries need preconditioned before I charge with my home charger. I’m assuming because it is so much slower than the supercharger that preconditioning would not be necessary. And also does driving it count as preconditioning?

You can hear the HVAC turn on when charging at home. It warms the battery to a minimum temp before charging. The preconditioning is more important for fast chargers.

@@pattywright9335 Your welcome. If you navigate where you're going, you don't ever have to worry about preconditioning. The car will direct you to the best supercharger on your route and will do the preconditioning automatically. I actually never think about preconditioning, ever, it just does it.

In your car, touch the "Car" icon in the lower left corner of the screen. Select "Software" Select the blue text that says "Additional Vehicle Information" Look for "Low-Voltage Battery" about halfway down that list. There you go.

Tesla recommends this but I’m still going to try and keep it at 50 percent a majority of the time were basically any lithium battery loves to be at. I think Tesla only recommends that with lfps because they can become super inaccurate very fast. I’m stilling charging to 100 once per week though. I’m pretty sure lfps can handle being at 100 percent way better than nickel based but I’m just doing anything I can to avoid an out of warranty battery repair for a model 3 that can cost $15k plus

Charging to 100% is OK now and then, but immediately start driving. Same for discharging below 20% this is Ok as long as you do not leave it parked at this low state of charge for a long time, charge immediately when parked. I charge my car always to 90% and degradation is about 6-7% after 2 and a half years.

Anyway, I was looking at one Tesla but I like the screen in front of me as well. I also like buttons. So, I drive the inexpensive Chevy Bolt ($10,000 to $20,000 less) that beat out other brands including a Tesla in an endurance run.

I didn't realise that tesla cars were so fragile. It's call under-engineering. A great way for a manufacturer to increase profit per customer, if they have to replace more broken and bent parts than mainstream auto manufacturers who build their cars with more strength

@@worldtrav72 if the "required amount of metal" was used, there would be no need for special frunk closing instructions, door opening and closing instructions, or replacement boot (trunk) hinges. None of my cars have ever required any special hood or door opening and closing techniques, and their boot hinges are just as unbent as they were on the day they left the assembly lines. And none have had any disgusting odours from the a/c My current cars include dodge challenger (US), Nissan leaf (Jaoan), ford mustang (US), ford falcon (aussie), Ford Capri (UK), MG ZS EV (china) I repeat, tesla is under-engineered. Just like FSD, tesla uses their customers as unpaid beta-testers as they market partially developed vehicles

@@Gabri3lRocha as ev's regenerate on deceleration, weight is somewhat irrelevant to milage. A slightly heavier car requires slightly more energy to accelerate, but it also has slightly more momentum (due to slight extra wright) which means slightly more energy is regenerated on deceleration. The net effect is just the heat loss in energy conversion And your tesla hood / frunk probably weighs about 10kg. Amy weight saving in your hood would be in the grams range. Easily offset if you forgot to take a leak before your drive, or you had a big breakfast. ie completely trivial But an under engineered part gets damaged or broken more easily, costing the owner extra $$$ for no benefit. It only benefits the manufacturer, who gets to sell you a new hood / door handle / boot hinges / etc.

There is nothing premium about frameless windows. It is a cost cutting turnoff that results in windows that tend to rattle, at least when partially down and just as you demonstrate, unnecessary fragility.

It might be more about weight than cost. Traditionally a sedan has framed windows while a hardtop has frameless ones. Look at any inexpensive car out three... Focus, Spark, Altima, even the Civic all have framed doors.

It's about aerodynamics more than esthetics or cost savings. The design and engineering that go into these cars focus on minimizing drag and weight. Drag is perhaps the most critical factor that affects range. That's just physics and Tesla understands this very well.
