You, Lady, are changing my mind about psychology, which till now i was finding a bunch of crap (and all the breed of enlightenment era) in comparison to philosophy and ethics. You are the first psychologist i totally respect and recognize.

A defensive state against internal unconscious data . Unconscious fantasies thoughts. What is being defended against. Conflict

OMGosh, I wish everyone could listen to this video! I eliminated all depression via my personal analysis. I had tons of depression, yet I never could specify the feelings or causes...it came and went in waves, sometimes lasting weeks as I reworked my childhood! ( blocked emotions from what you say, here.) Freudians speak of depression originating from infantile oral, anal, phallic, or genital stages. (??) My experience regarding depression is that it develops as we get immersed in our childhood dysfunctional families - then we are emotionally trapped Object Relation Theory is the way to go, most definitely.

Hi, can you please give a bit more details about your personal analysis, what was your focus in that investigation, emotions, anger, sadness, emptiness? What have you been thinking about, and do you recommend any starting point in that process, like moving away from childhood family, feeling the emotions that are painfull etc? Thanks

As simple as it would be necessary. I like the way Dr Kavaler-Adler described and presented this topic

what is the real cause of postnatal depression?

Agnie M Postpartum depression can be both physical and psychological. Your body may be physically challenged by a pregnancy and that can cause a natural stressor on your psyche. If you have a spouse who is nurturing you so that you may nurture your baby, then the stress of recovering from giving birth should be much easier. We often forget that the father is an important part of the family and that he should be there for the mother so that the mother can properly attune to her baby. If your spouse is not ‘nurturing the nurturer’, you may feel the stress of not having your emotional needs met. Having a new baby is a mother AND father job.

exactly - in some cases just like mine- major depression ( which i never heard of therapy helping only meds or serious interventions) it's actually just neurochemistry being thrown off. ( yes childhood abuse or whatever can do that or hormones in case of post partum depression etc...) medication does work fo rmany people. I def. don't believe in the "anger turned inward thing" but maybe in some cases who knows.

I don't think this is true in many if not MOST cases of major depression....I am extremely - un-repressed ( being half Greek helps as it's not a repressive culture we talk things out ) I was always HIGHLY self aware -and I worked through it all 1000 times - friends/ therapy- but I literally would be in agony and cry and cry and talk and talk and it never got better...i simply never had any "anger" as I was wise even then to know they were messed up , not me....I also have no problems expressing anger...I had mourned and i never had this hatred ...or rage. I actually believe truly in some cases ( like mine) it's due to child abuse/ neglect that if the brain becomes depressed at a young age, your neurochemistry is thrown off ...and you do in fact simply just need medication or more serious interventions such as ECT etc....therapy for me was utterly useless and it's the same for friends of mine with major depression. ( NOt to say it can't help maybe milder cases ? but i doubt it works for major depression as I never heard of anyone getting better from Major Depression from therapy alone ).

It definitely worked for me. But not when in Freudian classical analysis. Sorry, I hope you found an object relations therapist and have gotten better, now that 2 years have passed.
