I use nylon guitar picks, so the nitro-cellulose picks aren't normally in my pockets ( tho I do have 6 or 10 in my fire bag for just that reason). Cotton balls in a little ziplock baggie smeared with a bit of Vasoline is another fire bag item, along with 2 Bic lighters ( they really do work best), 2 military issue magnesium fire starters, a ferro rod, small bottle of Purell hand sanitizer, 60 milliliter squeeze bottle of rubbing/isopropyl alcohol, a "pen can" of WD 40, a little ziplock of dried pine needles, pine twigs, and a bunch of pine rosin coating it all, a small can of Ronsonol butane fluid and pipe Zippo lighter, a couple water proof bottles of 25 matches each of those military matches, a couple of tampons, small ziplock bag of dryer lint, a pad or .0000 grit steel wool, a couple pieces of fine sandpaper, some Wet Fire Tinder Cubes, a small magnifying glass lens, a round "chaw tobacco" can of char cloth, a tube of Fire Paste, and some other goodies, all kept in a U.S. G.I. MOLLE pouch as my " fire bag" that I keep MOLLEd onto another MOLLE bag that contains a fishing kit, redundant compass, wire saw, plus redundant other stuff ( I believe in the old "2 is 1 and 1 is none"survivalist rule ). I maximize the room in my rucks/ backpacks by making full use of the MOLLE webbing and using lots of compression sacks inside ( attaching 2 MOLLE pouches together and putting a set or 2 or 3 or whatever, depending on the size of the compression sack, in each sack. I Ranger fold my extra clothing ( especially my sofies [under-garments, I generally will use the military recommended 2-3 sets of extra socks, boxers, and tee-shirts, plus an extra pair of BDUs/ cammos, a G.I mil surp poncho and "woobie" liner, Some Gore Tex plus a boot sock full of uncooked rice. The rice trick I learned from an old guy that was in the LRRPS/Long range recon patrols, in Vietnam]. I could go on and on, as if I hadn't already, but there are so many things most people can use as survival " hacks" that it should be 2nd nature. Maybe because I grew up in a U.S. Marine Corps family I know and think of things Joe Public in general thinks of for 2 seconds of his life, but to me, the stuff in this video and more are stuff I wouldn't have to think of, I just do

Great info man! one suggestion I would recommend is to keep the household bleach dark or opaque bottle dropper, instead of a clear bottle dropper... or just wrap some tape around the clear bottle to cover it. You’ll notice that bleach is never sold in clear bottles, thats because bleach degrades and looses its strength much faster when exposed to UV & fluorescent light.

Might also be noted in later comments, but panty hose also makes excellent reusable, easily cleaned pre-filter for water, and it's elasticity makes for an extremely effective tourniquet even if you are weak and/or working one-handed. It also tends to keep its position as you work to tighten it.

You can also use the tights to catch eels, place some old rotting meat into them tie a not a few inches above the meat and some fishing line or paracord to secure it to the bank, eels have loads of small teeth which will become tangled in the tights weave. This may also work for crabs and shellfish. Also take a couple of rat traps with some paracord attached and staked into the ground and set them up at night to catch what ever takes a bite.

I have another use for pantyhose,especially the Leggs Sheer Energy, they have a tighter weave making them stronger.My deadly departed dad taught me this when he would teach me things about my first car, a 1972 yellow V W Bug. You should always keep a pair of pantyhose in your trunk ( boot in the UK ) if you have a fan belt blow you can use pantyhose in its place until you get to next auto shop, garage or rest area with auto shop ! My dad use to be a racecar driver until my mom made him quit He was an excellent mechanic !

Another one for musicians. Violin/Viola/Cello bow rosin is just made of purified tree saps (hence the name “rosin”) which are super accelerants. It’s the same stuff that makes fatwood “fat”. My violin came with a cheap-o rosin, which I promptly replaced with a better one. The cheap one went in my fire kit.

If you think about it plastic bottles are everywhere. Great idea in a survival situation. I also thought of my garden. Poke small holes on the underside to release water slowly during times of drought. You could even paint the outside to make them cute. Great tip! Thanks for all of them.
@cthulhu6697
@cthulhu6697 5 жыл бұрын
@@AndrewFishman You sure will. There are much better ways to get and collect water in the wild Even in the desert you could dig a shallow hole and use a plastic bag ( I carry 3 heavy contractor bags at the bottom of every ruck) and some rocks to collect water that condenses. In the wooded mountains where I live, creeks, streams, and lakes are easy to find and wildlife ( plants and hunting animals ) are in abundance, this far up in the Great Smokey Mountains there are tons of natural resources ( evergreens, especially Red Pine, are great for tinder, kindling, and Red Pine is a great source of "fat wood", and all pine trees are abundant here and great sources of highly flammable needles, rosin, and pine wood ( you can also make a big, pine fire to dry some green wood you get from wood of deciduous trees like Oak, Hickory, Elm, Apple Wood, Alder, Birch, Dog Wood, Cherry, and other woods you want to cook with ( of course you don't cook with evergreens like pine, but it will help you get a campfire going way easier and faster with it's flammable tars and rosins). I guess that as much as I hate this place ( grew p and lived in a big, metropolitan/city area for forty years and had to live in rural, mountain, country hell for five years and running), I have tons of woods, animals for hunting and skinning ( and I'm an experienced hunter, tracker, and survivalist) creeks, lakes, and ponds for fishing, wells for water, edible plants, private land where I grow opium poppies for painkillers and we have fruit trees and vegetables in gardens, in case SHTF, I can shoot my guns all hours of the day and night since there aren't neighbors and cops for at least 30 minutes via Interstate, etc......., our house is hard to find with only 1 road ( a steep, rutty, gravelly hill ) in, so I guess I have it better than most with my skills, weapons, meds, gear, environment, opium, fruits and vegetables, outdoors/ bush craft knowledge, etc....... than most if society collapsed.

Another one with the windshield reflector is to cut a square ( depending on the size you want ) and then fold the square not completely in half but sort a like a envelope, then glue etc. along the two sides and then a bit of Velcro to the lid, fold this over, in the shape of a envelope. then you can put some frozen food items etc. inside then secure the lid to the Velcro. this will keep food cold for a long time. Dunno if you've heard of this or not, but if you mix soy wax and rubbing alcohol (the more pure the better) in a 3/2 ratio, it makes a really nice gel fuel that lights easily, and the wax soaks into tinder when you light it for a really good burn time. And since it's alcohol, it burns hot. I use it to light my fireplace, and it works even to light the bigger stuff.

One of my favorite hacks comes from one of my favorite snacks when I go hiking. Tootsies rolls - they come wrapped in wax paper. I take a wrapper and roll my wood match in one (a good twist after wrapping it will hold it quick and easy) I've started many fired this way with one match where many more matchrs or lots of extra time consuming prep work would have been needed.

I've never seen the one with ramen noodles before, and it's cool that it works, but in a survival situation I can't say that I'll be carrying around antifreeze, but I know that I can find more things to set on fire than I can to eat, so I'm saving those ramen noodles because I'm gonna need the carbs and the sodium.

Those panty hose...you can actually buy jumbo packs of knee high ones, from walmart, a 10-12 pack for $7. So you don't have to waste. They're also great for poultices.

You should warn people of the very dangerous fumes from the antifreeze that may seep into whatever you are cooking or heating. This should be done as a definite last resort

Good news, I love your water catchment bottle! Smart and logical. Bad news, I don't like your ramen noodle trick. Antifreeze does burn, however, can become toxic even as smoke and get into the food you are cooking. Won't be using that idea at all. Besides, even if SHTF--The other fire starter ideas keep a small fire going, even when its just twigs. You are obviously NOT going to be starting these fires indoors as you will be either leaving the area (who would want to stay put when chaos is created and people will loot anything including your home?). Along the way to a bug out location, you will be collecting some food, resources, materials for firewood, etc and using them.

I love camping/survival hacks. I’ve watched so many videos I pretty much have seen them all! (Or so I thought) I had never seen the Ramen hack.. that is the perfect use for stale noodles! (Well, I’d eat them if I didn’t have anything else.) Thanks for the video!

YES...YES...YES - I have kept guitar picks in my wallet for years, even though I don't play. When everything in the woods is wet, they can literally be a lifesaver. The local music store has a glass candy jar with guitar picks for 15 cents each ( used to be 10¢ )

Take empty plastic 20ga/12ga shotgun shell. Stick trick birthday candle down inside into the primer. Fill with melted candle wax around the trick birthday candle. This will give you a fairly durable wind/rain resistant candle for a BOB/edc. It will stand alone vertically for the most part. As the candle burns down,you can trim the casing down. If you remove the plastic from the base of another shell. The metal base can be used as a snuffer,and protective cap. Triple antibiotic ointment is a better chioce than Vaseline. It can serve the roll of both fire starter,and first aid. CLEAR plastic straws are another useful item. You cut one into 1.5"in. sections. Then heat up a pair of needle nose pliers,and crimp one end of each straw section. Fill it with????(Condiments/salt/pepper/seasonings/matches/cut and treated qtips/magnesium shavings/ect.) Then crimp/heat seal the other end. If you do two crimps on one end at an angle to create a point. When you cut the end of the point, it will give better application control. These can be stored in a pill bottle for the BOB,or edc pouch. Or loosely in a wallet,or altoids tin.

As far as the birthday candle goes. You still need to be able to light it in the first place, in extreme wind. So the lighter or match is either gonna work. Which means you don't need the candle. Or it's not. Which means the candle isn't getting lit. So there's that.😐

so why use the nailpolish on the Q-tip? does it help sustain the flame once it gets going, or does it help initiate the flame?
