👍Can you make a tutorial on the different ways to take advantage of using match EQ ? Thanks you!

Great suggestion! Qucikly, I'd use match EQ to get an idea of how to balance my track to sound more like a reference track. I'd recommend its use in music production solely for getting a sense of the differences between tracks and avoid using it as a fix in and of itself (of course, do whatever you'd like, this is only advice). One place I use it more often is when mixing dialoge in tv/film to match the voices of different actors, especially when working with multi-day shoots or with ADR or different microphones. That's what I have off the top of my head today. Hope it helps!

Your tips are more like "rules" for me. They are so fundamental. I really like the idea of using subtle EQ on the mixbus, once things are up and running pretty good. I must confess, I actually start my mixes by soloing all the tracks and doing fairly conservative high pass filtering. It lets me get familiar with each performance, and identifies any odd things like digital clipping or bad edits that may have happened along the way. Along with that, I keep an RTA visible on the mix bus throughout the entire process, front-to-back. I can solo any track, or group, and get some good visual information.

True, that's a step I'll admittedly sometimes get lazy about and skip in the preparation/organization phase. Sometimes bad edits, phasiness, distortion and low-end rumble are major detractors that need fixing before the bulk of the mix, other times they can be addressed as they come up during the mix. What RTA do you use? I just got Voxengo SPAN and am digging it thus far!

I just use the basic PreSonus Studio One EQ, on bypass. It has a graphical display that lets me see frequencies lined up with a piano keyboard. I don't "think" I need any more information than that. But, if the RTA you use provides extra information or more options, then I think I should do some research.

Looks like there is a free version out, I'm going to have to try it.

Yup, I use the free version! It has the FFT (with note values if interested), correlation meter, and multiple metering options. Let me know how you like it!
