Morricone tapped into something dark, strange, nutty and magnificent...in fact, the soundtrack is a separate "movie" unto itself....

Ennio once told the story of how he walked in on the singers rehearsing and he was moved to tears. It is quite a gift to sound so frighteningly real and possessed....

I'll never understand Morricone's decision to have the screaming of autistic children as vocals for this film's score. It's just clownish.

I think the vocals were supposed to sound African

@@conorgarrett5893 I think Lycan is confused because there are autistic children in another scene. I remember a review complaining at the portrayal of Regan as a "curie."

Unique music...undoubtedly, but not necessarily good nor entirely bad. Just as confusing and disjointed as the film it was scored for. Director should've have kept it minimal and gone the studio catalog library route the way Friedkin did with the original. In fact, Friedkin hired another experimental type of composer, Lalo Schifrin...but his style, like Ennio's was way to far out there and he canned him and just started selecting far more superior works from long gone classical composers, and threw in a modern hit at the time (Tubular Bells) and history was made.
