As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
This is an easy to build fully modular system! I show you how to build base cabinets, which can be done in 2' or 3' widths. And upper cabinets in 2' or 3' sections. So this project is scalable to any size! Mine is 13' wide, but you could easily build it anywhere from 3' - 20' wide or more. Simply by adding or subtracting components.
You also can just as easily make the base with drawers as I did or with shelving & cabinet doors, like I did the uppers. You will also see how to build a rigid semi-torsion box style top, in which to embed your miter saw.
And you choose the level of build that you want. from basic ply, to Baltic birch, or even hardwoods. Any of which will make a perfectly functional Extreme Miter Station.
This is a 13' long x 7' tall miter station containing sixteen dovetailed drawers, in four base cabinets, a bank of six upper cabinets, and a bunch of storage shelving cubby holes in the middle.
The bodies of the cabinets are mostly Baltic birch plywood. the drawer fronts are from leftover pieces of walnut plywood that I had from a kitchen job. And the sides are skinned with 1/4" cherry plywood.
I used architect's scale triangular aluminum rulers for the drawer pulls. I drilled and tapped them just for this project. And the upper cabinet handles are actually 3" c-clamps.
My old miter station had a 12" DeWalt sliding compound miter saw, that used up too much space in my shop. The dual bars that the miter head slid on forced me to keep the saw 11" further from the shop wall than I wanted.
After researching, I found the Bosch Glide 12" dual Bevel miter saw that could be placed practically against the wall of the shop. Because of that, I would be able to gain almost a foot of space in my shop. That's quite a bit when the shop isn't as big as I'd like.
Plans are available on my website! I hope you come back and see all 4 parts of this video series.

Everyone always wants a dollar. You can’t put the plans up for free you have to charge for it? Some people just have to be greedy.
@KingsFineWoodworking
@KingsFineWoodworking 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Jerry, I appreciate your point of view. If you’re interested, I’ll tell you our position. We spend dozens to hundreds of hours on a project to try and teach people woodworking online. We don’t charge anything for that. We do it because it’s fun. But we do need to make a living. We get a tiny amount from youtube, but far less than you might think. So we fund the channel by selling plans. That gives us just enough to keep the channel going. If I sold thousands of plans, or even hundreds, I could certainly lower the price. But like anyone, we need to make some money to keep it going. I’m sorry that you feel we are greedy, but I can promise you that’s not the case. I spend 100 hours a month in our Facebook community group answering questions and answering emails and genuinely trying to help people. And if you ever have a question or need help, if I can, I’m happy to help you too. Anyway, I hope you can understand our point of view. Thank you for taking the time to comment. James

King's Fine Woodworking in regards to your charging money for your plans? You are more than entitled to monetary gain. I'm sure the money you are getting is much less than the actual value that one receives. I love your channel and you are a top notch carpenter/ woodworker and a pleasure to watch. Your daughter is a hoot to say the least lol ( the photo bomber) lmao! I always have a smile on my face whenever I watch you and your lovely family show use not only how to woodwork but, we see how love and respect and cooperation looks in the shop. It is a beautiful thing. I broke my back quite some time back and I am very limited in how physical I can be, so being on disability makes it hard to make ends meet otherwise I would be contributing to your cause for sure. I recognize the value in your everyday shows. Just know that what your doing is a very good thing and appreciated by a lot of people. You can't make everyone happy so they are just on their own. I just wanted you and your family to know how much I appreciate what your doing. Bless you all.

Excellent video series. I admire a craftsman who spends so many hours on a project like this, yet takes the added time to document each step and share the process on video. I think some people take for granted the added hours and manpower necessary to record their work, then edit and do the voice narration. I am especially impressed that you took the time to explain the couple of fixes you did on the fly, why they happened, and how you addressed it. Few people show this step in their videos. Kudos to you and your family for your efforts. I found your channel tonight because its time to upgrade my miter saw station. Your detailed instructions were very helpful to me. I am subscribing to your channel and look forward to seeing what other videos you have. Wish you continued success.

You just made life easier as I built a wall system that is not real convenient and after seeing your setup, it makes more sense to me, except for now I have to live with the dewalt sliding miter saw. My original goal was to be able to park my pickup in the garage except the goal is to have a fairly decent work shop so the pickup stays outside. The shop has been a dream for me all of my life.

Everything you've shown me in this video is extremely informative and very helpful. I am so grateful that you went to all this trouble (with your daughter!). I have learned a lot, and to be honest I hated pocket screws BEFORE I saw your video. Now, I am converted directly as a result of seeing how useful you have made them in the video! I am going to look for a tool similar to the one that you have been using to help me make the pocket screw holes. I know it sounds a little sad, but honestly, thank you for your efforts. I can see how this will help me. And "No such thing as too many screws" is a saying that I go by as well.

King's Fine Woodworking what I'm building is an aquarium stand that is 60"×25"×40". It's 2x8 and 2x6 construction, for a 150 gallon saltwater aquarium. I would just appreciate any and all input as to how to go about building the outer shell to make it look like a piece of furniture. I have some basic tools. Table, miter, circular saws, and a hand router and router table. I'm an electrician by trade, by no means a carpenter. Thanks

Great to see the proper use of a screwgun's clutch!!! Impact drivers may be lighter and more compact, but a properly set clutch wins the day for me.

Girl got skill. I'll always go around my grandpa when I was little and annoy him. He was a plumber. He would allow me once in a while to "tighten" a pipe or hand him the keys. Those are memories that stay forever.

I recently found your videos and am very impressed by your high quality work and attention to detail. As to the 35mm hole for the hinges, I have always used my 1 3/8" Forstner bit. It is just a few thousanths of a mm smaller, and I have never had an issue with the cup part of the hinge to fitting easily into it. Best wishes on your great channel. CW

Nice video and clear explanations I build cabinets also with Kreg pocket holes. 2 things though: 1 I prefer to use my electrical drill for making pocket holes, in order to save battery life on my cordless drills. 2: I use full cover for the top of the cabinets. I had numerous problems with things getting stock in the upper drawer when they are over filled.

Hi Jeff! Thanks. And she is quite good. She drove in thousands of screws when we built our WoodShop together. I've had people come over to help with construction projects and sometimes they are embarrassed when my 12 year old can drive in some that they can't.

you sure make a lot of comments justifying your use of pocket screws... I'm curious, do people trash talk pocket screws often? why? I use em all the time - got the same Kreg pocket screw jig that you have, makes it suuuper easy. anyways, thanks for the videos! clear and concise and minus a lot of the self centered, indulgent, nonsensical ramblings a lot of youtubers will preface, and interlace, their videos with. also it's nice to see your family around helping you out, and you don't make too big a deal of that either. just really love the tone of your videos. thanks so much for taking the time!

I really apprectiate the manner in which you do your builds and your accompanying descriptions and comments. Thank you. You certainly use a large number of pocket screws. Who do you source your pocket screws and other fasteners from? I am always interested in saving money on materials.

I need one of those saws! I have the Dewalt, the older version, but still with the depth issue. And the Kreg, those are the way to go, I built out my old garage using the Kreg system. The shelving and benches are rock solid. Great video.

Hi Andrew! Mostly detailed measurements. There is a 3D set of plans, and a breakdown of each component of the build with specifications. The project is intended to be modular, meaning you can have any size Miter Station you want from 2' - 20' or more. You can pick the width by starting with how many 2' or 3' base cabs, then proceed upwards. Also, I help plansbuilders if they get stuck in an area. And finally, it's a way that viewers can help support my channel if they like. Thanks for watching, James

I agree! And I've put them to some pretty rigorous testing. I think I'll put up a video at some point to show just how much strain a pocket joint can handle.

Brandon's Bees, they work.. sure. But it is like saying Nickelback is as good as Beethoven. Nickelback can play music, but it will never be a classic that will span centuries.

I don`t think people hate pocket holes but sometimes you don`t want holes to be visible not matter what. in this way, it`s better with strait holes and a plug. I seen this many times in furniture industry. I`m also only using strait holes and a plug. I don`t want anything to be visible after it has bean screwed together.

Thank you for sharing your experience! it makes it so much easier for people like me to make informed decisions as to not only how to, but seeing how the tools work and benefit the craftsman is a real plus. Thank you ! Question, why no glue in the carcass of the cabinets? is it already that strong?
@KingsFineWoodworking
@KingsFineWoodworking 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much! It is very strong and doesn't really need glue, although normally I would put it anyway. In this case I didn't because I may need to disassemble and move the miter station someday.
