He did great. He did as well as was possible. Perfect transcription is not possible because an orchestra can play maybe 100 notes at once while a pianist can only play 4 to 10 depending on the situation.

I think there is much more in Liszt then normally assumed. He is much more then a salon musician. Some themes have accompanied me for some years now, like the themes from the Dante Symphony. There is depth.

@@thenotsookayguy maybe like 4-5 weeks idk? i’m mostly having trouble with the second page because i can’t play the left hand notes together so i have to jump all of them and it sounds horrendous. i’m also having trouble with the first cadenza because idk my pinkys weird but surprisingly i don’t have an issue with the second cadenza? tbh i think most of my issues just stem from not practicing enough 💀 (and not having hands that can reach 13ths ☹️)

In my humble and very subjective opinion, I personally think Wild Jagde is a bit harder than Mephisto Waltz, speaking from experience with both pieces, every thing Mephisto waltz has going for it Wild Jagde has it but slightly harder.

@@Historia_ I didn't even THINK about trying the s 137 set, way too difficult. I tried some of the hardest spots of the s 139 and the Mephisto Waltz (which is how I usually test the waters with difficult pieces) and I found the Waltz a bit easier.

La Sonnambula is actually slightly easier than Norma (but definitely still harder than Mephisto Waltz). You are right though about Spanish Fantasy though it's at least as hard as both of them combined.

@@babygirl4169 nah, crazy octaves are a lot easier (for me) than the messed up jumps in mephisto. plus there's a lot of weird voicings in it, and its really hard to keep a good interpretation. norma is just ever so slightly easier, but I do agree, I think both of those pieces are near don juan level

This might sound crazy but I would actually put liebestraum in the top 4 hardest pieces by Liszt. Hear me out, obviously Don Juan and every other piece on this list is far more technically demanding and more difficult. But Liebestraum is one of the most difficult pieces to phrase perfectly. It's up there with the likes of Schubert and Schumann. Playing Liebestraum note by note with little to no dynamics is obviously easy, but getting the control and dynamics is much harder than playing a lot of notes with blazing tempo.

Don Juan isn't just notes with blazing tempo. It's notes with blazing tempo while playing in piano (some parts) and with phrasing as well. I agree liebestraum is hard but definitely one of his easier pieces.

@@jeviljuice1633 why is it that everytime there is a slower/less technically demanding piece, everyone says "omg this piece is actually difficult because phrasing" as if fast and technically demanding piece don't actually require phrasing too. Phrasing/emotional difficulty and technical difficulty are not mutually exclusive things. Pieces like don juan not only require technical ability but ALSO phrasing.
