What a blessing! This brings back memories of Elder Vendon and his wife an English teacher's retreat in Hakone, Japan (Mt Fuji) the week of Thanksgiving 2000. It makes me homesick for heaven. Kurt.

Feeling homesick for a place we have never been. What a beautiful mystery. I feel that yearning often these days. Realizing this place is not our home, we dont belong to this fallen world any more.

Great Pastor....I miss him, but he's right. The first death is a sleep. Yes, the body dies, but the soul has not suffered the second death. Jesus spoke of this death in Matthew 10:28. "Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell." The text if very clear: The body dies, not the soul. Is the soul immortal? No! Clearly in the second death both "soul and body" are destroyed. So what happens to the soul? Most Christians state it goes to heaven, but does the Bible teach this? Ps 115:17 states that "The dead do not praise the Lord". If souls go to heaven after death surely they would be praising the Lord, right? Ecc. 9:5 states "For the living know that they will die; But the dead know nothing" Is there any consciousness in death? Apparently not. I could go on and on....Clearly the Bible does teach "soul sleep".
