I had the same issues with spider plant, syngonium and ferns ... No matter what I did, the spider plant leaves would snap, get brown and eventually the plants died. I realised it had thrips on it afterward. Same things with most of the plant I killed, it usually starts being unwell due to overwatering or underwatering, and then thrips just finish them off.

Just our luck 😅 Thankfully, I haven't experienced thrips yet (none that I'm aware of at least)

spider plants thrive on rain water, the best thing is to put the spider plant in a smaller pot than you would usually do, this will give you babies in no time. Keep the cat away from them and you will be fine ;)

You just made me feel so much better about my plant deaths. My plant journey started around the same time and I have lost similar numbers and species. Ferns, syngoniums, a few philodendrons. I've stopped with calathea altogether and am hesitant to buy alocasia unless I can keep my last couple alive. I even lost my enormous spider plant that I'd had for years and years to some kind of blight. I love my plant babies and I'm determined to learn from it like you. It's good to know I'm not alone.

We're definitely not alone! Live and learn, right? 😉 I want to get more into Alocasias but I'm hesitant as well. For now, just trying a few and take it from there. Happy growing!
