Think about all you were willing to do to get her as your wife... don't stop doing it just because you're married. Take her out regularly, be active in what she does, pay attention to her. Don't just say you love her, you have to show her you love her (not big things, small things). I'm saying this from my personal experience. I basically live in my bedroom. Believe it or not, emotions causes people to not think rationally. I remember telling one of my clients that I didn't feel comfortable continuing on his case because he had already paid $80k and I felt like he was making too many emotional decisions. He didn't care about the money. He wanted revenge. I found him another Attorney. When I catch up with him(client) every few months, we just laugh about how much he was willing to spend for revenge. Jeff, I always advise having an Attorney when going to Court. Everyone doesn't have a horror story when not represented, but the ones that do, really regret it. You may go in and be fine and that's my prayer. Assuming you are in Georgia, the following will need to be addressed whether it's via a settlement agreement incorporated into your Final Judgment and Decree or made the order of the Court by a hearing: Child custody Parenting time Child Support Division of Assets including the home (who will keep the home or will it be placed on the market? How will equity in the home be divided? How long will the Spouse keeping the home have to refinance? What if the Spouse keeping the home can't get it refinanced? etc.)contents of the home, retirement accounts, savings and other accounts. Restoration of the Wife's last name Vehicles Alimony (if at issue) These are just a number of things to consider. We offer a free 10 minute consultation over the phone. So, it comes down to dividing assets and liabilities and child support. And spousal support if it applies. And you can't get blood from a stone as they say. So, while there are 13 grounds for divorce(in Georgia), 99.99999% it's gonna be good ole 13- the marriage is irretrievably broken. That's it. Period. So, the court couldn't care less who cheated on who. So don't kid yourself that you're gonna get everything just because your husband hooked up with that cocktail waitress. It simply just doesn't work that way.

The insurance company will drop you since you two are no longer married. This is regardless of an agreement. The choice is not his. However, he can continue to cover the minor children. You may want to look into Cobra coverage or shop around for your own insurance and ask for him to pay for it in the divorce if you cannot afford it.

If your spouse just says, “I don’t need to listen, I don’t need to see family therapy…”, is there a way to court order couples counseling, family therapy as a “do this for x number of sessions or months before you throw in the towel on the marriage”? My head is at what’s in the best interest for the kids, stability, but if I can’t even get my wife to communicate without being interrupted, there’s no forward movement, no ability to communicate through daily challenges. Do courts ever order a path through family counseling before divorce, at least for the sake of the kids? Or are we just no fault and that’s that, no need to do the work, accept the lows with the highs on the journey and work through the mud? Seems to be the situation these days, everyone’s just rash and quick to cut and run rather than muscle through and do the work. When life isn’t matching the fantasy photos….

You can divorce without an Attorney. I'm not sure what the outcome would be. I always recommend having an Attorney even if it's not me. There's usually too much at stake. A lot of people end up paying more for an Attorney to correct what was done wrong in the first place. Also, Family Law Attorneys plan for what's needed in the future and how you're affected in the future with your decisions now. Most parties are just focused on today especially when it's a very emotional time.
