We actually ended up with a better late planned first WDW trip thanks to Hurricane Dorian. So many people began canceling that we picked up crazy ADRs and FPs, and lines were shorter. We had to leave Sunday instead of Tuesday because of MCO closing, and we were exhausted from 5 parks in 3 days, but we still talk about the accidental character meals we would never have enjoyed otherwise. All our DVC friends were horrified we booked a trip 10 days beforehand, and then amazed when they heard what we ended up doing before Dorian hit.

We have our next trip planned for Feb 2023 and the end of our trip will be when the Princess Half Marathon is happening. Guess it's good to know now that we're in for some crowds. Which I kind of assumed anyway. We did end up splurging on MK After Hours tickets for one of the nights we'll be there, so at least we'll have a little time with less crowds. Thanks DFB for all the great info, as always 💖

Many years ago, my knee popped late in my hotel room one night. It does this every few years or so. I was doing a split-stay and the next day I was switching hotels. So, I iced up my knee, and the next morning I packed all my stuff and hobbled my way over to the Poly to check-in. The cast member checking me in noticed my distress and called over the concierge. I explained what happened and they immediately called a local pharmacy for me and ordered me a knee brace and a box of ice packs. They were delivered in a couple of hours, and I was able to still enjoy the rest of my trip even if I had to go a bit slower. So yeah getting sick or hurt at Disney World isn't fun, but the CM's are willing to go above and beyond to help any way they can.

My comment was too long, so this is part one: I just came back from my first Disney trip. We were there during hurricane ian. Luckily we booked 2 weeks accommodation in Orlando, so we were fortunate enough to still be able go to all the parks by shifting our schedule a bit. Here are some of my tips: 1. If you can afford getting genie plus ($15 each) to skip some queues, do it! My boyfriend and I got bought genie plus for each park, and the individual genie plus for the really popular rides too (only about one ride per park, ranging between $11 to $17 I think). Honestly, money wasn't a major issue for us since we were only 2 people - so getting genie plus for all rides was amazing. It's maybe not as necessary for Animal Kingdom Park but honestly I would still buy it for Animal Kingdom, it wasn't a waste at all. But definitely do buy genie plus for Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios as they're the busiest parks. 2. Regarding genie plus, ensure to buy it before 7AM of the day you're going to the park. Since you can book your first ride at exactly 7AM with genie plus even before the parks have opened. You'll most likely be able to hop onto a ride as soon as the park opens without any hassles then if you managed to score a genie plus booking slot right as the park opens. Once you've claimed your booked genie plus ride, you can book a new one right afterwards (literally do it while you're standing in the small queue about to get onto the ride). Remember you can book your genie plus experiences either right after claiming one experience or every 2 hours (whichever comes first). In my opinion, the best thing to do is to see what slots are available and then stack them (basically doing one ride after the other). However, if there's some experience/ride you really want to do - book that first instead. For me, I really wanted to take pictures with Mickey and Minnie at Magic Kingdom. I was dumb and didn't book that experience first thing in the morning. So by the end of the day I had to stand in the standby queue (40 minutes) because all available booking slots with genie plus were already taken (they are limited, so choose your slots wisely). 3. If you're going to Epcot, you will have to join the virtual queue for the Guardians of the Galaxy ride (even before booking your genie plus experience) at exactly 7AM. Do not miss doing this!!! Slots fill up fast. At 6AM of the morning, you can set up your virtual queue party so that when 7AM comes, you can just hit one button to join the virtual queue instead of still having to select your party. My boyfriend and I joined the virtual queue at 7AM and we were in group 68, set to go on the ride at around 1PM/2PM. I can't imagine if we tried to do it later. The ride is awesome as well, so you cannot miss it! Sometimes the estimated time for going on the ride gets shifted around a lot so keep your phone notifications on for when they call your group to go to the queue. You can view the estimated group boarding time in the app during the day as well. 4. Go to Disney Spings to get your first visit pin. No parks had them while I was there. It seems that they were out of stock. But apparently the guest relations at Disney Springs has some available. I never got mine :( (I always forgot to ask when I was at Disney Springs lol, but other people I asked said Disney Springs had them). 5. Unrelated to Disney, if you have an extra day and $100, go to Universal's Islands of Adventure (not Universal's Studios). While Disney's rides are fun and all, Universal's rides have a lot more adrenaline. If you like adult roller coasters, Islands of Adventure is a must. 6. I cannot express this enough, bring along comfortable shoes! There's no lie when they say that you walk, and walk, and then walk some more. We walked an average of around 17km per day, and that doesn't include just standing. Your feet are going to hurt at the end of the day. I didn't think mine were going to but I was wrong. Luckily once you've slept, by the next day all is well again. Oh and you can take some water along with snacks like nuts, fruits, protein bars, sandwiches, etc, into the parks to keep you fueled throughout the day. Please also don't forget sunscreen, it really cannot be forgotten. Along with some sunglasses and a hairtie if you have long hair since it can get hot, and for tying your hair back on rides to help it not get knotted. Bring some deodorant too, you do get sweaty walking around in the heat. And one or two headace tablets, the constant noise of people talking gave me a headache some days. Some other things to take along would be a portable charger, we used ours every single day. Our phones would not have lasted until the end of the day, just remember to recharge it at the end of theday again. You kind of use your phone for everything while in Disney World, plus taking so many pictures. Honestly, be annoying taking pictures of yourself and whoever you're going with. I took a ton of pictures and when I came back home I felt like I didn't take enough (so make sure you have lots of space on your phone). Also, I found that I got a tiny bit chilly some nights while at the parks, but that could have just been me as I tend to get cold easily. I don't know what the weather is like in December rain-wise, but we brought ponchos with us everyday just in case. Buy them before the trip and not at the parks, they're more expensive in the parks. Also, if you're going to Universal's Islands of Adventure - TAKE A PONCHO, and some flip flops! There are 3 water rides in Islands of Adventure that can get you extremely wet haha. So use the poncho and the flip flops on these rides. They're super fun though but I'm so thankful we had ponchos and flip flops on those rides, it really helped a lot. In Disney there are only two water rides that I can remember of. One is in Magic Kingdom, called Splash Mountain. Now it's nothing compared to the water rides in Islands of Adventure but if you get seated in the front seats of Splash Mountain, you are going to get a bit wet (not extremely, just a bit). And the other water ride is in Animal Kingdom called the River Rapids, this one a poncho is definitely recommended so don't forget it :) 7. If you're going with your own car, go to the parks a bit earlier than you plan to. You will have to pay $25 for a standard parking (sometimes the car queues to go into the parks get long, that's why going a bit earlier is essential). Then find a parking spot (luckily there are workers to guide you). And then still walk all the way to the entrances. This can easily be an extra 20 minute endeavour.
@samanthalloyd67002 жыл бұрын
Part two: 8. Don't get too caught up with the souvenirs inside the parks. Majority of them you can get at the Walt Disney store in Disney Springs. So then you don't have to carry around shopping bags while in the parks. There might be some small stuff you cannot get at the store in Disney Springs. Maybe it's best to go to the Walt Disney store in Disney Springs first, before going to the parks to compare what they have versus what they don't have. Thinking of that now, I should have done that haha. 9. If you're keen on eating at restaurants inside the parks, make your reservations as soon as possible. Everything can be done on the Disney app. But honestly, in my opinion, the restaurants are overpriced. The portions are at least fair for what you're paying for but I'll admit my boyfriend and I had some decent food at the standard "pick up and sit down by yourself" restaurants. What's even better, most of these restaurants have mobile ordering, so you do not even have to wait in line to order and wait for your food to be prepared too. As long as you have a debit/credit card linked to your Disney app account, you can proceed with ordering food and just going to the mobile ordering pick up stations to retrieve your food. It saves so much time. We highly recommend the Docking Bay 7's (in Hollywood Studios) Batuuan Beef and Crispy Topato Stir Fry (extremely good!). As well as Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn's (in Magic Kingdom) chicken rice bowl (not amazing but satisfactory) or Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe's greek salad with chicken tenders or just the plain chicken tenders with chips. In Animal Kingdom, the grilled chicken bowl at Satu'li Canteen is really good. Also, get the pineapple dolewhip ice cream in Animal Kingdom, super yum. And in Epcot, well everything is good there! But I really enjoyed having small bites (around $6-$8 each) at the different food stands. Especially Kenya's beef tenderloin - super good! Speaking about mobile ordering, I forgot to mention that while shopping at the Walt Disney store in Disney Springs(and some other Disney stores around in the parks) you can also do a mobile checkout. You use the app to scan your items and pay with your linked card in your account. Then you just show the receipt on your phone at the door to a worker and they will bag everything for you and let you exit with all your things. It was so much easier and we never had to wait in any lines. 10. If you have already bought your tickets, you have to make park reservations as well. Do that as soon as you are able to, as I believe December might be a bit busy. Take my advice and ensure you book Magic Kingdom on a day where it stays open until like 11PM. In that case you're ensured to see the enchantment fireworks. Since you're going in December, some days during December Magic Kingdom will only stay open until like 6PM, you do not want that. The reason being that some days the park will close earlier than usual is because Magic Kingdom will be having their special ticketed Christmas Party. So just a tip to make sure and check the park hours of the days your going to certain parks, especially Magic Kingdom. The fireworks usually happen at 9PM on normal park hour days (I think). As well as in Epcot, their fireworks are really cool too! Make sure to be around the firework area at least like 30 minutes before the time to get a good view (earlier is better, but for just fireworks not so extremely necessary depending on how much you'd like them and want to see them). If you have extra money to splurge, during December they have special ticketed Christmas parties in Magic Kingdom Park (as mentioned before). These special events are a treat if you can afford it. My boyfriend and I went to the not so scary halloween party and it was really cool. They had special shows, parades and fireworks exclusively for the event. If it says that tickets are sold out online, just check with guest relations or at the ticketing booths if they still have some available. We bought ours the day of at a ticketing booth even though online it said the tickets were sold out. Our tickets were around $150 each. For these special ticketed events, Magic Kingdom closes earlier for normal admission ticket holders (at 6PM) on certain days (as mentioned above also). However, guests with these special Christmas party tickets do not need general park admission tickets (unless you spend your day at Magic Kingdom beforehand as well). With the special tickets you can enter Magic Kingdom at 4PM even though the Christmas party is only set to begin at 7PM (once all the normal guests have exited the park). However, I would suggest arriving at the park a bit earlier than 4PM since you will need to pick up your wristband and other goodies beforehand. 11. This is just my personal opinion but the Disney magic bands are really not worth it. They're costly and what are you really going to use them for afterwards. My boyfriend and I just went to the ticketing booths on our first day at the parks and they scanned the ticket barcode we received in his email and they gave us our Disney cards (no cost) to use at the entrances, when using genie plus at rides or with Disney's photopass. If you lose your card, they easily replace it (also at no cost) at any ticketing booth so no worries if you lose it. I can't think of anymore tips. Just have a blast! It's really a different experience compared to other holidays but it's extremely enjoyable and all the workers in Disney are always so helpful. If you have any questions during your time there, just ask any team member and they will help you at anytime. Have fun on your holiday!

Thank yoU, DFB team! I'm really hoping the MNSSHP next year stays true to this year's schedule so we have a shot at going. We're going in August, so it just depends on how early they start! That and Food and Wine are bucket list items for me and I'm hoping I will finally get to experience them. I was a bit confused when AJ was talking about the Run Disney events and after hours events, because she mentioned that if the park closes early for one of those events, you'll be kicked out if you don't have tickets, and that you may want to get a park hopper for that day so when the park closes, you can hop over to another park. But, to my knowledge, you CAN'T just get a park hopper for 1 day. You HAVE to get it for every day of your tickets, even if you wait until the last day to purchase it...they'll charge you for the duration. Am I wrong about that? I was sure an aquaintance said they had not gotten hoppers because they usually only visit one park. But on their last day, they realized they had missed something specific at the food and wine festival in Epcot that they had really wanted to try, so they decided to get a park hopper for that last day and were told they'd have to purchase it even for the days already passed. It would cost them nearly $1000 just to visit Epcot for a couple of hours, because they were already in a park and couldn't just change their park reservation anymore. They either had to buy another days worth of tickets, or they had to buy the park hopper for their whole family for several days they wouldn't be able to use anymore. So if you think you might want to hop at all, get the hoppers right from the beginning!! Then if you find the park you are in is too crowded, or you realize you forgot something you really wanted to do, you can just go.

AJ, I was wondering if you've done vids on a couple topics I get asked about: Disney World for guests "of size" and what rides may be easiest for them to fit on/in. I don't only mean obese guests, I mean very tall guests as well. (My 6'6" ex-hubby would never have fit on most rides, I'm thinking.) The second topic is, how to do Disney World when you have Multiple Sclerosis. Fortunately, I've been to DW twice before I developed MS, but a lot of people haven't been as fortunate. Since MS means major mobility issues, info would be deeply appreciated on the current procedures DW cast members use to safely get us on and off rides, into shows, that kind of thing. However, my three year old found out about the boo to you parade and wants to see it. The passes are no longer available. If we don’t choose to ride anything, just walk around.. would we be able to see the parade or will we be escorted out? If it can’t happen, I can just hide it from my toddler and it will be ok. If there is a chance I could get a pass or just stay for the parade, it would be good to know. Can anyone help?

Hi there! Unfortunately if you don't have a halloween party ticket, you will be asked to leave the park when it closes for non-party-ticket holders. I'm not sure how they check cause I've never been to an after hours party but you can't stay for the party without a ticket even just to walk around. (That would be super ice if you could though!)

Party goers have a wrist band to allow them to stay. Everyone else is escorted out of the park at 6:00pm

@@madelineS98789 I have heard stories in the past (pre-COVID) that people have stayed, but we’re not allowed to do anything. No rides, no shopping, no buying food. I am very curious on the logistics on how they can clear the park out. That being said, I will check for cancellations prior to going, no harm in that at all, right? If it doesn’t work out, oh well. I just won’t say anything to my little one.

Thanks AJ. I’m travelling from UK and at Disneyworld from 17th Feb - 2nd March. With a holiday on the first weekend and Run Disney on our 2nd weekend, should I be looking at rescheduling our trip?

This is really going to depend on what you considered crowded but I do live about 2 hours from the parks and the weekend of presidents it will be busy a lot of people do come into the park they have that long weekend. The marathon the day of the run it will be busy there will be people that will be in the Parks after they rest a little bit and then they will go back into the parks that day. Normally the day before a run the parks are not really going to be that busy because they are basically just resting cuz they have to get up early and they have to do the run. I think it really depends on what you feel comfortable doing if it was me and I'm a local I choose not to go during that time frame because your wait times are going to be high. If you have a chance to change if that's in the budget then I would look into doing that but before you change anything I would contact Disney world and see what else they have planned because you are coming from overseas. Universal Park will be crowded as well for the week of presidents but the run will really not affect universal studios.

@@loracaro4427 thank you so much. Is there a certain park that would be less busy over Presidents? Eg if I went to Epcot or Animal Kingdom instead of Hollywood Studios or Magic Kingdom? I’m thinking I may just risk it and try and work round the grounds by going to less busy parks or using the Genie + feature x

We had to cancel out DL/DCA Columbus Day Weekend trip due to an injury (spinal fusion surgery), but were able to pivot to a Christmas time at WDW. We know that the crowds will be pretty crazy. But we know that this has been a pretty rough year for us so ending it at a magical location will be nice.
