Practice is so fundamental but NOBODY talks about it! Now we get these great tips from a master. Thanks, Craig. On the last point, making it fun: Practicing sleights can feel like doing needlepoint with your grandma. What helps me get into the "flow" of it is to treat it like finger dancing where (especially early on) I practice the moves on a beat ("step, step, slide, push") getting smoother and smoother. Once the dance is burned in and you integrate the moves into a performance, you kind of hide the beats and the "music" becomes silent but helps you remember the choreography of the moves nonetheless.

My mentor pointed out that performance is practice. Otherwise practice is only useful when it's fun and if it excites you, like wanting to learn something new or improve a favorite trick. If it gets boring or monotonous you have to move onto something new (at least temporarily), otherwise it will destroy your creativity and you won't want to do it. Cheers Craig!

Absolutely Chris . Having fun is probably the most important part of practising. Thanks for taking the time to comment

I’m a collector of magic stuff .. cards and coins books gimmicks cups balls all that jazz Make it interesting tell a story with your routine
@djryanmcdonald2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Craig I love your videos I really enjoy practicing my magic especially with gimmicks it feels like I'm playing with a toy LOL a little bit less fun to practice the fundamentals but working on that it's really important. That's the only way to really get better but working on the routines with each gimmick is really fun in my opinion. I know what you mean about losing interest because it does seem overwhelming especially Basics like the DL. Getting something down like a good push off DL is way harder than you would think. It goes on and on. I tend to take 2 or three effects and practice them though the week. Works well.

Craig, I practice my show,... Yet I am guilty of buying tricks meaning to learn them and to possibly add them to my program, presentations,... Sometimes they just st get put together into a box ,... I mean to get to them,... Lol sometimes I just wanted to know the working. I believe we are all guilty of this as magi. Eugene Burger King aught me many things about practicing and performing. This video reminded me of what Eugene taught me. Many Magi are guilty of just wanting to know. And not being a meaningful specific. Keep up the good work for magic. Best to you

Comment: When I am learning to do something new there is a high level of uncertainty. But at some joyous point I know before, during, and after it will work. Having: The Knowing is a strong tool to have in your toolbox. This may sound odd but the knowing actually travel with you, back of the head, in your heart, and of course between your hands.

I’m guilty of buying too much and getting overwhelmed. I ended up being the butt of my own joke because when I was a kid the magician said “what’s the difference between either a good magician and a great magician or maybe between an amateur and an expert: “ I know a thousand tricks!” “Great, I know three” (well)

We all do it, it’s part of being a magician. We can’t help ourselves. We like playing with expensive toys
