I am 56 years old, but a similar situation happened to me when I was younger. I was walking home from school when a large van stopped right next to me. The driver rolled down his window as if to ask me a question, (I had been crossing a residential road & thought they were going to hit me, that is how close they got to me) & that is when I noticed another man in the passenger seat, starting to open his door. Thank God I had purchased a can of chocolate coke that I didn't like & was still carrying, so I threw it in the driver's face & ran like hell one block to the church my family went to, which was on a busier street. Thank God I was able to get in that church & call my mom, who was a teacher at a school just a few blocks away. I don't know if the passenger ever came after me because I never looked back. I do remember hearing the driver say "Get in! Get in! Get in!". That wasn't all though- About 3 weeks after this happened, an 8 yr old girl was abducted from the grade school my mom taught at. She was found 3 weeks later in a ditch on the side of an old highway 20 mins away. That abduction forever changed my small hometown. No longer could you just come in and out of schools , without checking in the office first, etc. I firmly believe to this day that it was the same guys. The girl bared a shocking resemblance to me, & it happened within 2 blocks of where I was approached. The girl wasn't taken from outside the school though, she was taken from the bathroom, during school hours. She had been alone, with a pass to use the bathroom. The terror she must have felt still haunts me to this day. The perpetrators have never been caught. #truestory

It's just terrible that we must constantly be on the look out. My cousin was about this age when someone tried pulling her out of a store in the mall. They got her to the second set of doors before finally getting scared bc she was screaming and let go. My daughter, when she was 18-19 had some guys try to pull her into a van on the side of the Rd but she fought like hell. My son, when he was 9, had a man pull up to where he waited to catch the bus, get out and walk toward him but the bus came up over the hill and the man turned got back in his truck and took off. We lived in the boondocks and I really didn't think I'd have to worry about that stuff there but come to find out my son tells me that vehicle had also followed him down the lane before that and after that incident there were flyers posted at the local gas stations about a man attempting that stuff at a nearby campground. I never let him go to catch the bus by himself after that and our landlord waited in the woods w a shotgun for some time. I never had someone try to physically abduct me but I sure had enough experiences w men being inappropriate and a couple different molestation incidences when I was a kid. It is such a dangerous, sick world.

Agreed! What also should be highlighted is that the girl listened to her gut and spoke up! Told her mom about the guy who approached her and made her feel uncomfortable. Kids need to be taught to trust instincts and TELL someone. The other lesson is that we can't be too careful with their safety, b/c this man came back the very first day mother didn't escort her to bus stop. Don't assume the best and let guard down. Assume the worst to stay Safe!

I have a regional run, meaning I cross a few towns and use centralized drop off points like strip malls and centrally located roads that can often be isolated. IF I know a parent isn't there I always tell the kid they can stay on the bus and we'll come back to see if they are there, and if not I can take them back to the school. IF they still get off at least at the shopping malls I tell them to wait inside a store and to call or text their parents and tell them which store they are in. As for the road side or Park drop offs? I feel sick every time I pull away knowing one of them will be waiting for a parent to come. This is why.

Yeah, I was thinking it was the slime that probably saved her, because the guy was surprised and realized it wasn’t going well. There’s no way her fighting did anything but piss him off and slow him down, and if he hadn’t been spooked or caught off guard by the slime on his light colored shirt, he would’ve eventually subdued her. An average grown man, even the weaker looking ones are stronger than people think, and outside of a super athletic female (possibly with MMA training) or athletic teenage boy (13 and up) a grown man will have no trouble overtaking them physically-and even those exceptions I just mentioned, it’s not a guarantee they’d be evenly matched. However, unless the man in question is into fitness and is on the slim side, because he works out or runs, then there’s a damn good chance he won’t have the stamina to sprint after his target for long. I think it was irresponsible of the reporter and law enforcement to suggest children right, when they should be running away. When they spot someone suspicious or that they don’t know, they need to have their phones out, taking pictures of these creeps so they can be uploaded to the cloud immediately so the guy can’t destroy the evidence. I would tell any kid that if an adult approaches them, to ask them to stop where they’re at because anyone with legitimate business or that isn’t a creep is going to realize how it looks and respectfully keep their distance. That’s the creep test, and if anyone isn’t cool with standing 15-20 feet away, preferably on the other side of the street, then that’s when a kid should take off running, screaming, and dialing 911. All the photos and stuff I mentioned should be taken before that point, and the direction the kid runs shouldn’t necessarily be straight home, because Mom or Dad might not be home or fast enough to save them, they should run to where people are, which means the nearest business or a main road. I wouldn’t suggest they run out into traffic, but if there is a break in the cars coming standing in a turn lane isn’t a bad idea if it’s a straight road where they are easily visible, but they should be waving their arms and running along the shoulder running the opposite direction as traffic so they will encounter someone sooner and make eye contact with a driver that hopefully slows down. It’s a lot harder for creeps to snatch kids and get away with it today, but kids still need to be observant when they’re alone. They need to know that it doesn’t matter how easily their rapist/murderer is found, because it won’t bring them back to life if they don’t survive the encounter. I know that we talked about stranger danger when I was a kid, and they probably went a little too far in scaring us because it’s such a rare crime compared to all the people who already know them and they trust that might harm them, but it’s still a good idea to talk with kids to make sure they have a plan if something goes down. Even if it’s just other kids who try to bully them, or beat them up, they should have a similar plan to counter whoever might want to hurt them.

My dad made me fight with my younger brother instead of stopping it. I think he wanted me to learn to defend myself. When I was 11 a truck with two men slowly followed me. I ran in front of the truck and over to a housing development and knocked on a door. No one was home, but the truck left and I ducked behind bushes all the way home. Fortunately at age 72, that was my only encounter of this kind. I'm still ready to rip somebody's arm off if they ever try to harm me in any way.

For crimes like this, where there is video evidence of a kidnap attempt and a history of sexual offences, the offender should be put to death. They are a danger to society, and offer no value to the world. I don't advocate for the death penalty because lots of innocent people have died, but this is clear video evidence.
