So happy to hear this interview. One of the people us Metis people can look up to who made it to the NHL. Thanks Chris Nilan and Tim Stapleton. Hearing the story about them playing hockey and then baseball in the summer, reminded me of my upbringing in Smith, AB, where we basically were playing hockey and baseball, and football in the fall. He was a tough NHL'r...

Asham was always a gamer! Downstairs at the Brendan Byrne / Jersey arena, locker room area… where players families meet their friends and families… all the players came out of the locker rooms rehydrating with water & Gatorade … Asham came out with a 6 pack of Bud cans with one already cracked … that’s was his way of rehydrating! LOL

I got to know Arron because of the Montreal bar I DJed at where several Habs players liked to hang out over the years. They'd sometimes ask me to make CDs of their favorite tunes for them and in return set me up with great seats to Habs games. After being traded to the Islanders he stayed in Montreal that summer. His Escalade got broken into and all his CDs were stolen. He asked me to make some replacements but said he no longer had access to game tickets so he took me to play a round of golf instead. There was a shortcut to the chosen golf course through a reservation called Kahnawake. While driving through the res, Arron said something that I'll never forget. "Are you sure this is a reserve? All these nice houses and paved roads aren't like any reserve I've ever seen!" That made me pause. I always appreciated his candor.

I was fortunate enough to have season tickets for the Rebels when Ash came up. He was a real tough dude and took on guys who were mostly bigger than him. He also had some real offensive skill. It was a pleasure Ash.

Indigenous players like Asham, Chris Simon, Craig Berube, etc., tended to cut their trade through fights.

I got « Hey ya savage » Or it’s the « l’anglais ». Asham was under-utilised in my opinion. He had more to offer. He just entered the league in the wrong era.

All these abbreviated names and nick-names kind of take the "listening public" out of it. So maybe you can say their real names so that some of us can associate with the "convo!"

I gave up on hockey when Philly made the playoffs over the Rangers because of a shootout that first year Bettman brought it in. Why did I waste my time watching the entire season when the playoffs came down to a dipsy doodle? The Ranger guy, some redhead from the Flames, didn't even try. Bettman sucks.
