I was deciding between those two but got Mamba after watching. Very satisfied after 3 uses now. Super smooth, no blade chatter and almost no blade feel yet somehow maintans just enough efficiency. Highly recommending for everyone looking for something really smooth with the least possible amount of irritation. Cheers for posting this.

Thanks for watching. Glad it worked out! The mamba 70 is one of my favorites. I rolled the dice and picked it up used, and I’m glad I did.

Great video. Matthew set me up with a Mamba 70 & a Game Changer 68P. They are my go to razors. Love em!

Hard to beat the value and ease of use for those two razors that’s for sure. RazoRock is probably the value champion, and has been for a while. Thanks for watching!

I had a Mamba 70 and sold it because I just couldn't get a good shave out of it. I'm sure it's mostly my lack of finesse but I do get great shaves from other razors that I would consider mild (Henson AL13, The Winning Razor for example). If I had to guess why I couldn't figure out the Mamba I'd say it was because I could never seem to find the perfect angle. I may give a GC a try someday based on this. Thanks for the comparison. This was helpful. Have a good day!

I think finding the razor that works for you mostly comes down to your shaving habits and skill. I’ve revisit some razors after 6 months of not using them and found that I really liked them. Some other ones I disliked from the very beginning and never grew to like them. That’s just the nature of the beast. Thanks for watching!

Approach angle. WOW! I could not agree more. In my experience, the angle of attack determines the level of aggression, way more than gap and exposure. Great review. Thanks for sharing your time. 🤝👊✌

People often assume efficiency based on blade gap alone. Cap and guard geometry is much more consequential IMHO. Thanks for watching!

Do you still prefer using a mild razor when you have 4-5 days growth? I’m usually a once or twice a week shaver and I currently use the .68 but I’m not 100% satisfied with it. Not sure if the .68 can’t handle a week of growth or maybe the .68 just doesn’t work well with my technique.
@soapthing Жыл бұрын
Whenever I shave off 4-5 days of growth it tends to tug and hurt slightly, pretty much no matter what razor or blade combination I use. That’s just because I have really coarse and thick facial hair. You may not want to hear this but my advice is to shave more often, like every other day, and see if it feels better. Try that and get back to me if it doesn’t work, but there’s a real possibility that your hair type just doesn’t lend well to shaving once a week.
@jayscuffington Жыл бұрын
@@soapthing Thanks! Yep, funnily as a member of the coarse hair mafia this is exactly what I’ve suspected. I remember when I shaved more frequently it seemed liked I’d always get a much easier shave. I haven’t been required to shave regularly anymore for a few years and I have slow growth so I started shaving once a week. Oddly when I try shaving more frequently now I get a lot of irritation. Idk if my skin has become more sensitive or what but my skin doesn’t likee it anymore.

I was thinking about getting my first modern razor and was wondering if you thought that a Razorock would be good? I have plenty of vintage DEs I started with but I just want a new one for the fun of it! I heard someone say that Razorock is now the spirit of what the original Gillette DE razors were: a quality razor at an affordable price. Great video!

Yeah RazoRock is good. My personal recommendation would be either the Mamba 70 or Lupo 72.

That was an excellent comparison. I own the Mamba 0.53 which I never use and would love to trade away and also the Game Changer 0.68. Now that I am a more committed straight razor shaver blade feel perception has changed. Now I would rather have the 0.84 because of that perception. Have a great weekend.

I learned something about myself. As I get more skilled, I still don’t choose to get more aggressive razors. I suppose I’m just not looking for a challenge. Thanks for watching and have a great week!

Great video, mate. Well done! I bought both these razors (with UFO handles) a couple of months ago and have been using them since they were delivered. I haven’t done anything like a side by side comparison, but I have been alternating them every few days (using Gillette Platinum or Wizamet blades). I’m a daily shaver, btw. To my surprise, I find I prefer the GC 68. It seems easier to “find the angle” on it, compared to the Mamba - and (as a result, I guess) I get a smoother, more irritation free shave. The GC also seems gentler on my neck (sensitive area!) than the Mamba. They’re both excellent razors, but that’s my experience. Just illustrates the YMMV aspect of our hobby, I reckon. Cheers.

I’ve never had serious trouble finding the right shaving angle on razors. With me, it’s more a matter of I don’t like the angle even after I find it. I think that was part of the problem with the Game Changer. You can watch all the reviews you want but at the end of the day you need to shave with it to be totally sure. Thanks for watching!
@jmw39382 жыл бұрын
@@soapthing Yes. Good point. I should probably have said “maintaining the angle” is harder on some razors than others. Generally speaking, shaving my cheeks is a breeze with any razor (and any blade). The uneven contours (and softer skin areas) of the neck are a different story. I envy influencers like PaulH and Geofatboy who don’t seem to experience the same issues (or maybe each guy’s neck is tougher than mine). Cheers!

Everytime I went back to using the game changer from other razors say like the Rex Ambassador, I think it's one of the smoothest razors in my collection. I'm currently using the Mamba .70, and in my opinion it's smooth and efficient if you find the correct angle. In the process of trying different blades so far astra's, sharks, personna Israeli crystal, nacets, derby utsas, voshkod seem to work fine. Just make sure you have a well hydrated lather and shouldn't have any issues, recently found out that lather has been big factor in any irritation problems that I've been having.

Great shave, Buddy!! I expected to see the Era in action today. I cannot understand why so few speak about the Mamba 70? It’s a great razor!! Only annoying thing is the base-plate loading. Matthew is a great guy!! He just helped me order the new Lupo .58. I’ll get around Easter, but hopefully worth waiting for!! Have a great one!! 🤜💥🤛
@soapthing2 жыл бұрын
I ordered the Lupo 58 as well. More to come on that one. I think people ignore the Mamba because of the Game Changer. The GC is very clever marketing. When you call something a “Game Changer”, even if it’s not (it’s totally not) people will gravitate toward it just because of the name. Plus it’s like $15 cheaper than the rest of the lineup. Have a great week Sig and be safe!

Well you seem to be extremely biased toward the mamba 70. After watching your video, I decided to order one for myself with the halo handle. I have sensitive skin and want something mild. I have been using an Edwin jagger de89 for 11 years now and I’ve always wanted something made of steel. I really hope it works out well for me. Great video, subscribed
