Hey guys, start using the Staysail. It is the most useful working sail on the Quasar. After we blew the original Staysail out, we had a very heavy weight one made. In light winds it was good for a knot on a reach. In heavy winds we putout about 10% of the Jib, reefed the Main as needed and balanced the boat with the Stay. The only time we did not fly it was downwind. My method of dealing with storms was to sail directly at them. More often than not, the storm would be gone before we got there. The lighting that was lighting up the sky without you seeing bolts was cloud to cloud, no ground strikes. In aviation, we called it Sheet Lighting, often replacing the 2 e’s with an I. Best thing is to remember, the Prout will always take care of you. Seeing you give this lady a second life brings a giant smile to my face.
@sailing.supernova7 ай бұрын
Thanks for the advice, We will make a point to try and use the stay sail more. The one we have is really heavy so we should be good there. We are very confident that Supernova can take more then we can, we just need to get better at getting the most out of us. We could really do without the lightning lol but i would rather cloud to cloud then cloud to mast haha. Glad you enjoyed the video :-)

Well done on the passage . I suspect your small boat stalker was pronably interested in seeing a fairly rare yacht but your caution is probably for the best JIC. Im ex merchant navy and always closed on small yachts , partly on curiosity as im also a yottie, and partly to check all is well. The OOW called me on sighting a yacht , we closed to half a mile and with no sign of life so gave him a really long blast on the whistle , he just strolled out of the cabin as if he expected to sea a 300,000 tonne tanker nearby . We had a chat on the VHF then dropped him some fresh bread and provisions and carried on our way. At sea we always said ships only move at nighttime and mealtimes .

But definitely would have reacted similarly to how Yvette did and gotten the spearguns ready just in case.

They were most likely fishing until we got closer, but it seems like there were really coming after us, they had nothing in the water and reacted every time we changed direction. 23:05 love your channel and nice video . Fishing tip as I have been deep sea fishing many times. Mahi-mahi are attracted to brightly colored lures that mimic their natural prey, such as flying fish, squid, and small baitfish. Some popular choices include feathered trolling lures, skirted trolling lures in vibrant colors like pink, green, and yellow, and diving plugs. Additionally, live bait like ballyhoo or mullet can be very effective when targeting mahi-mahi.

That was the first time we have had to deal with squalls. Now we know how to use the radar better to track them we can turn the right way next time. we are very new to sailing (only started 8 ish months ago) so we have lots to learn :-) We also don't play up anything just for KZbin, we are not good enough to do that haha. more so we are just very honest with the mistakes we make in hopes that other people can see them and either not make the same ones or help us get better. Hope you enjoyed the video :-)
