Bill, it was hard to choose a video to put this on, so I ended up choosing this one. This was the first kit I bought on my foray into the locksport hobby, and I have you to thank for that. I don't know if you'll ever see this, but I feel motivated to say it regardless. You and your videos changed my life. You gave me a passion, and the powerful knowledge to pursue that passion. I was in a pretty dark place when I found your videos, and found myself instantly engaged and motivated. I literally only started picking because of you, and now I have met more locks I can get into than can't. The sense of pride and success I get from the process is something I desperately needed at that point in my life, and I continue to pick to this day. Whenever I consider a new product or technique, your videos are still my first stopping point. Thank you for the gift you have given me, and enjoy the hell out of your retirement! Godspeed!

Hi I know its a long time ago since you commented but I am considering to buy this, however some people (on credit) say that these training locks are bad and that I should build my own kit instead of buying a pre made one. SO my question is, were/are you happy with this set?
@theflamingredone4 жыл бұрын
@@olibrayen5577 Hey mate, I've gotten a lot of enjoyment out of this kit. It was a great introduction to picking and all of the parts are high quality and durable. The window on the side is a big help when you're just starting out as you can physically see how the pick is manipulating the pins. It takes out a lot of the guess work/uncertainty when you're just starting out. I was picking real locks with the same picks within a few week (I even picked my friends front door when he locked himself out). I hope that helps!

Finally bit the bullet. Bought this kit plus a tabletop vacuum vise off amazon. Said to myself for like 3 years, "gee, if only I had the disposable funds". Turns out, I do. As hobbies go, this should be reasonable, compared to like golf or fishing. 😀 Plus, as a retired engineering tech, it just calls to me. Wish me luck! 😁

Hey, i have been watching you for i dont know how long now. I have one of those cheap see through locks and also bought a mid-range pad lock to practise on. I have watched the video where you teach us how to start attacking a lock, and it really helped. At work we have these trash containers for food, but someone had lost the keys for the pad locks. So the next day i brought my e-bay picks and managed to use the city-rake on all three of the locks, and got them open in less then 5 minutes. My boss was both happy and scared i got them open so fast, and went and bought some higher security pad locks :D I dont think i would have been into this hobby if i had not seen your videos, so thanks for your content and keep it coming!

I've decided to start my lock picking adventures with this kit. Being Canadian, I am super glad that Such a good company as Sparrows, is in Canada, no customs hassles and no international shipping charges, chipping away at my weak Canadian dollars. I know their prices are super good if you are buying with American currency, but the prices are still very good in Canadian buckarineos. I have gotten the all important wifely blessing on my new interest. I think she was glad when I finally got bored with constructing and painting scale models. I won't stink the place up with this, or complain that I can't hang the battle of Britain from the living room ceiling.

Your giveaways are insane Bill. One of the best channels for viewer participation I have come across. I don't participate, I just enjoy the fact you give guys a chance to get great stuff. Side note, do you think that adding rakes to a commercial training kit is a bit odd? I mean, yeah it's a way into an open, I just thought that a training kit would be more about SPP not raking.

Thanks Bill, just bought this the other day and it screams quality even though I have never even held a lockpick before. The only thing I wish it had was a piece of paper that shows you the basics on how the training lock works and a list of educational material that would be useful to a beginner to purchase. But all in all glad I spent the 108 bucks with Sparrow.

Yeah, I should have mentioned the prices on Sparrows site are in Canadian dollars, so $115 Canadian equals $90 US. For the regular NS kit, it is $99 Canadian, which is $78 US. Confusing, I know but I've sent a letter to the Canadian government with instructions to change the name of their currency, but it'll probably take them a couple of weeks...😃

Nice review bill! Stumbled upon your channel from LPL. Both of you got me excited to take this up as a hobby! I bought the cheaper night school the other day(ordered it a couple days before the 4th...UPS says 9 days to go from IL to OR) I figured if I buy the cheaper one. I can add the expansion set and grad 2.0 and have a complete whizwazzle kit with the 3 practice locks.... Seems a lil more logical than getting the tuxedo night school and getting some duplicates in the other sets..then I could just buy a .015 individually if need be. Anyways! Can't wait to practice!

I ordered a Night School last week and it contained the clear acrylic locks instead of the old style cut away or this new style cut away. I was surprised but they are much easier to hold that the progressive ones that I had also ordered. The only complaint was that it took some time to get them in the lock pockets.

Bill I don't know if you read the comments anymore, just wanted to say thank you for all the videos as they are what have turned me on to this as a hobby. I've been practicing every chance (about an hour a day) I can since I shaped my own picks and have bought the mastering the lock set you reviewed. I in short time have successfully picked every set I and my family own. I followed your advice and reached out to my local locksmiths (30 miles in all directions) and no one was willing to give me any locks or pins even when offered pizza and/or beer. I was discouraged from continuing as "was illegal in my state" even though I checked all the laws before beginning. Any advice for someone with a budget of zero to get locks or pins. I've also asked a few realty companies and been turned away. Thanx for your time and everything you do, keep up the great content!

Nathan, welcome to the addictive hobby of LockSport! It sounds like you are progressing nicely and building your skills. It sounds like the locksmiths in your area are a bit...unfriendly. I've run into a few myself and am amazed at how many of them are unaware of their own State's laws. Sometimes I think they play the "it's illegal" card as a kind of scare tactic. Insofar as locks, check with friends to see if they have any old locks. Also, the dollar store, yard sales, and a Restore outlet if there is one in your area. They aren't free, but you can usually find locks for a few bucks.

4:51 I have been using my normal tensioners for top keyway. Are they only for bottom keyway? I see that the top tensioner you show would be way better, but on my Sparrows clear practice lock I can get away with what the Tuxedo pic set has for tensioners and use them for ToKway. Should I not get into that habit?
