Fantastic film. Been scouring the internet for this detail on crafting the various aspects of the shakuhachi. Would have loved a little more detail on chiselling out the space for the inlay in the utaguchi, but it's the best film i have found so far.

What a wonderful documentary! I'm a shakuhachi player from Canada. I finished watching the whole video unable to understand any words. If someone can make English subtitles for this video, I would greatly appreciate it, as I recall want to understand this video!

I think most of Japanese other than shakuhachi players do not understand fully in my opinion. Someone who has nothing to do with shakuhachi, it's same as listening to a foreign language. Most of technical words are only understood by shakuhachi craftsmen. I have no ideas to transfer some of the words into English because there are no appropriate or similar words. Most of the words I have never heard of in my entire life (lol) I do not even know how to pronounce or read them.
