In this video I take on a hand-built challenge lock from Bill Clegg containing trap pins (almost) designed to defeat picking attempts.
Whipped videos highlight custom made locks sent to the LockLab as a challenge. They contain innovative modifications, unique security designs, and careful craftsmanship. Challenge lock design is difficult, to say the least, but many LockSporters excel in lock design and hand craftsmanship. Because there is such innovation among LockSporters, many manufacturers pay attention to the WHIPPED videos and incorporate the security techniques into their own locks.
There is only ONE RULE: The key must work. You are free to cover up the key to prevent me from seeing it until after I successfully pick (or fail to pick) the lock. I will make THREE 10-minute attempts (down from six 10-minute attempts in April 2018). If I fail to open it in that time, it will become a WHIPPED video. If you are interested in sending a challenge lock, please use this address:

It's to keep the "trap" pin from falling down in the ball bearing hole

Exactly. I made a t-pin for a kwikset lock and when I turned it 90 degrees with the key the pin fell into another hole and I was forced to take top of the bible off to get it unstuck. He probably had to do the same thing since the top was taped down.

That master pin is there to allow the smooth operation with the key. Without it the trap pin would catch the trap cutout. so in affect the master actually becomes a Top Pin to cover the trap pin point. Nice design, adding another one or two would make it much more a challenge. But I'll put my money on Bill to get it open...

The way the trap lock is, in what I can see, as follow: If you don't push the T-pin in second high enough, you turn and it stop in the groove. once there, you can't push the pin up since it hit the side of the bible and you can't turn back since both parts are side by side. I think Bill just got lucky today. P.S. Sorry for bad explanation. Doing it quick tonight.

Pin 2 had 4 pins inside it. That explains the dragging and high tension. Had the 2nd pin been picked to the 1st sheer line (just the undercut pin) it would have dropped into the construction ball hole and it would have locked up. The trap only works one time due to using the key causes the small t pin piece to drop into the construction hole and disarm the trap. The piece that disarms the trap is in slot six at the end.
@feirisWheel

Bill, my best guess is that if that extra "pin" wasn't in behind pin 2 that little Driver pin would have fallen into that hole and locked the cylinder.

Now I just have to impatiently wait for them to show up. Thanks for another potential addiction. Noticed on the lock-lab site they aren't listed under your trusted sites tho.

Dear Bill.. Great videos, but.... could you do a video on what you would use to lock a high security house door that was proof against entry (covert?) by a locksmith with all the tools. Even my 7 lever detainer mortice is vulnerable to a special tool.

Maybe the plug was to keep the trap pin from getting permanently stuck. Which is probably the reason for the tape. Most likely he picked it and seized the lock having to dismantle it to fix the issue.

The construction hole might be covered so the t pin doesnt fall into the hole. Thats why that small peice of brass might be there.

Am I the only one who thinks that he got very lucky and didn't pick the master wafer to the shear-line? The way I'm seeing the gutting, unless the pin was already in the trap hole, the master wafer would have prevented him from doing past that point if the wafer fell in with the pin.
@InvAltDM
@InvAltDM 7 жыл бұрын
I wondered if maybe that side pin was there to interact with the wafer for some reason, but if it doesn't make any contact I've no idea.

If I had to guess on pin 2 I'd say if you hadn't picked it correctly then the tiny bit wouldn't have fallen in the hole and instead the trap pin would have, making the lock stuck until gutting it. Just my guess tho since it would only be effective once and would do no good as actual lock just a challenge one.

I'm currently having the opposite issue lol. my door lock could be picked with a dirty look. I got reasonably lucky and the lock guy at my hardware store gave me a few spool and t pins. no charge. not sure if he was supposed to do that but I'll take it lol. on a major budget sadly. if I can't make this lock harder to pick by adding some security pins, I'm gonna have to break down and save for the six pin schlag I saw. almost a 200$ lock. it's ridiculous. not really sure what all I can really do to beef up this kwickset though. might be beating a dead horse here. I wasn't paying attention to name brand when I baught it, had a wife funding over prices, and the wife can be the ultimate nemisis lol. but lessons learned, never in your life buy a kwickset. they should rename themselves to kwickentry. not sure on the stuck lock. can't see it lol. few things could cause that and with no Intel it would be pure speculation. and after 6 months I'm gonna hazard a guess and say it's already fixed lol.

This is to any lockpickers out there. I plan to use two abus 20/70 locks with two abus 10 ks chains to lock both wheels and the frame of my bike to a pole of some sort. Would this deter a potential thief? I don't want to drive anymore. And I can ride long distances. Thanks for any constructive input.
@richardpeterson3753
@richardpeterson3753 7 жыл бұрын
Glans oftheKing all I will say is this. picking is not a theifs only tool. you have to consider all vulnerability. can the lock be bypassed? can the lock and/or chain be cut?.can the wheels be removed?. often bike thrives have spare parts, and intend to mod the stolen bike to Dodge bike Id, so he don't care if he leaves a part or two behind. look at every angle. and finally consider ease of use on your end. a super secure lock is not very helpful to you if it's too inconvenient for you to use, especially if you need to lock and unlock it daily. and multiple times a day. I used to have lowriders, so I know the pain. had one guy use a damn cutting torch to cut the chain for one. so on that note, one means to prevent theft of a bike is to have a very undesirable bike to begin with. if it's a peice of shit, but gets you from a to b, a theif is less likely to pull out all the stops to steal it. a 2000$ custom built limo bike on the other hand is just asking for trouble. having a good lock is just a minor part of the puzzle my friend.

what he should've did was made those construction ball holes bigger to match the pin holes then maybe when you turned it it would lock up the bible pins would shoot down in the holes problem with that is it would do it with the key to and you couldn't unlock it

Schalge, Kwikset, Sargent, Assa, TrioVing, Ruko, Lockwood, Yale etc uses 2.8mm pins in 3mm holes - If the pin size is not listed this is the size you get.

that seems accurate. I was just at a smithy today getting security pins, and the schlage and kwickset pins, only two he carried, where both same diameter. top pins all seemed same length as well actually. this was just in spool and t pin. just observation from eye balling it, I didn't take them to a micrometer.
