Sir, By chance I came across your video about the broken spark plug - felt for you! And I also learned an awful lot. I have also just seen your comment about the clutch bleed on Part 19 - I have yet to view it, but having had problems with stuck Allen screws I may have just done the same. And I don't know if you have servo abs, but if you have bled them... well, I do mine so it isn't that hard a job. Best wishes and I will go back to part 1,

Hi Neil, Pleased you have enjoyed them....go back a few and you will discover that my ABS failed, something else I had to sort out. Must admit this bike took me to the limit and I went out and bought a new 1250GS without an issue to solve!!

@@normski3091 Sir, Yes, I watched the ABS video last night - an excellent demo! Mine has lasted 19 years at present - I did research replacing it about TEN years ago - I do recall that there was also a way of wiring it so as to not need new brake switches in - and I see that Motoworks has a 'New' method of keeping everything in place in case you want to refit the Servo at some time - NOT your problem now though. But I still have plenty of your videos to enjoy - and I know that I will learn something new. Thanks again.

At that very moment I would have quite easily cut the frame in half with a torch...but hey this is only a bike...take a deep breath and touch up the frame with a little hammerite 🤣🤣

I like how the boys in Berlin put thread locker on every single bolt… good times, great video!

Yeh they seem to…wish they would put some copper grease on vulnerable bolts😢

The bike is fighting you all the way Norm ,but you are winning with copper grease leading the way to a better future in these tasks !. Good idea to get the seat lowered .I bought my GS with a low seat that the dealer swapped with the original . Yes the rear shock just had to be seized didn't it . A new shock,is another unplanned cost , but hopefully will be good value for future ownership .

Hi Graham, you will see that I make an obvious (now) stupid mistake with the rear shock. Why didn’t I see this coming😱

Firstly that was really nice and clear on the valves so I might do mine , they've always been quiet so left well alone ! So there's no other fix but to replace the shock , shock being the operative word . Well you now the bike inside out , good luck , Btw it would be interesting for me anyway to see what tools you carry on a trip. I'm off to Norway towing a trailer with my bike ln it.

Hi Norman, valves are the most therapeutic thing you can do, especially if you buy those little feeler gauges which make all the difference. When I went on my first trip around Europe about 12 years ago I bought a Wunderlich tool roll and filled it, well overfilled it. Thing is I never even opened it and the same every year since. Last year before heading to Skye I bought the Oxford travel tool kit, think it was around £30, and have a plastic box with top up oil, torque keys etc. again never opened it, but it is comforting to know it is there. I thought I would buy one of those lockable behind the number plate tool boxes for the 1150GS but cannot find them for sale anymore!

Thanks , btw I've got the same problem I think with my shock but not really tried to move it, luckily where it's set is good for me. I think most people stick with a mobile and credit card in their toolkit.

Norman in one of your comments last week you inadvertently highlighted a potential problem with the new shock I ordered. Watch it next Monday and see if you can spot my stupid mistake 🤦🏼‍♂️

Hi Jochen, do you mean the extraction tools?? The link to them and the thread cutting tool is in the description on part 18. Any problems just let me know and I will come straight back to you.

another beautifully made video Norm. I currently have 3 bikes including a 1250GS. As retirement gets ever closer I'm thinking of perhaps replacing the 1250 once it is out of warranty with an older and less complicated 1150 or 1200 that will be easier to self service, Any tips on what to lookout for in an older bike? thanks again for these videos. Hi, Interesting, I know one or two people who because of the cost / risk of things going wrong with the Techy GS's have gone back a few years ( that's not to say I don't like like em ). At 70 I got a bit fed up of my 40,000 mile ZX10R I'd had for 14 years, and decided I needed a complete change. Enter my mate on his 06 GS oilhead, a bike that has always Interested me with its boxer engine. That was it, I was Hooked. 2 months later I ended with an 07 ( one of the last 06s to be built). The best thing about it, is, it's Low Tech.... actually No Tiech ! Not even ABS. No, its not as quick as the later ones but it's true to the Concept of Go Anywhere, and fix it anywhere ( almost ) bike . I love it ! Roj

Hi David, well you are planning to do exactly what I did. Funny isn’t it that with a new RT sitting there I wanted a 20year old bike. When I took my IAM green badge exam I asked my instructor what the examiner was like. Ex police rider with an old 1150GS. He is very strict, no one, including the sports bike guys can outride him, the best rider I have ever seen. No pressure then. When he turned up on his 1150GS I thought that is the bike I want🥳 I thought I was getting a good bike but buying on eBay with the bike in deepest Cornwall is a risk. However even when it arrived by a van I thought it was excellent. Only when you find that first seized bolt do you begin to think ‘all is not well’. I would say take your time and go and see them. Also make sure you have the history…this bike had none😱

Hi nobody particularly wants a high mileage bike but evidence of regular servicing helps . The 1150's were prone to the abs fault I think.

I had a K1300 GT, all the bells and whistles. Problem was that anything went wrong, you were back to the dealers. I bought a 2007 GS six years ago. Service it myself, and touch wood, it’s still ticking along like a sewing machine. I love it. 😊

@@RiojaRoj I'd go with the R1150GS twin spark, no ABS with heated grips. I loved mine and commuted to work on it for many years. After I have finished my R1200RT project I'm going to go for the 1150 again. If you pick up an ABS model you can always remove the ABS as in one of Norms other videos, also you want to watch out for the cam chain tensioner and replace it on the left side with the newer one. Just check the size of the head of the cam chain tensioner, 17mm is the old one, 15 mm is the new one.
