Doug skid loaders are great tests of fuel consumption. None of them come with a large enough tank for the amount of fuel they can use in a day. It should be a rule that any piece of construction equipment is able to run 10hrs on a tank of fuel!

Thanks for the introduction to VEVO Portable Diesel tanks. Looks like neighbor Doug has got an upcoming modification video. Custom pallet to pick up both directions with a battery box mounted on the back, hooked up to a solar panel on the lid to maintain the battery. The only other problem I see is swapping out that red filler boot with green, yellow or black. (Not Red) It seams that VEVO didn't read up on the USA color code for fuel labeling. Keep up with the awesome videos Adam 👍🏻👍🏻

I use a hundred gallon steel transfer tank. My tractor takes ten gallons. When i fill the tractor I replace the fuel taken from the tank with fuel from five gallon containers. I leave the empty containers in the back of my truck so that when I'm getting fuel in the truck I just refill those, too. That keeps the tank topped off and the condensation to a minimum.

A couple observations and suggestions. The poly tank should have a green nozzle for diesel. Red is for gasoline, green with sometimes yellow for diesel, but most pumps will only be green. Power works well, but gravity does too. You can get tanks on farm sales for 300-500$ for 300 gallons with a stand. Fuel by bulk is usually $.10-20 cheaper than at the pump. Issue is, fuel fluctuates in price and unless you use a lot of fuel you may pay more per gallon by the time you use up the tank’s contents. Make sure to use a water separator, inline. Many filters are designed to filter particulates and water, but the filters need to be in an up/down position, not laying flat. I have gravity for my farm implements and road vehicles. You can use farm grace in your tractor and excavator as they are not road vehicles and it can save a few more cents per gallon. My $.02

Good video and setup Adam. I know you'll like it! FYI... You'll never get a full 116 gallons in it. I think most manufacturers include the overall dimensions in the volume calculation, but my experience has been that the area where the handle and filter is located is included into that calculation. So if you take into account that recess in the top, you'll probably have close to 10 gallons of volume there, +/- a few gallons. But overall still good tanks and setup. At some point you'll probably want a permanent tank setup, but the portable transfer tank is still worth keeping around and is very handy! I just bought an AM-Tank brand last year after having a few metal tanks in the past.

Looks handy, depending on pump price vs delivery in your area. If you want delivery, that's likely below the minimum size (150 here) - I found you can often pick up the 275 steel tanks in decent condition for free from people that are switching from heating oil to gas or other fuel source
@samgentile7494
@samgentile7494 Жыл бұрын
Hi Adam, Most diesel engines will run perfectly well on home heating oil. Heating oil is about $1.00 less per gallon than diesel fuel. Heating oil can also be delivered directly to your home, which saves you the time of lugging that tank to the service station to fill it up. PS: Storing gasoline is not a very good idea since it deteriorates rather fast. Gasoline absorbs moisture, degrades and the octane rating goes down fast in storage. Buy you gasoline at busy gas stations and use it all within 2 months or less.
@jimconnor8274

Nice set up Adam. Definitely small on volume. You might look into adding some Power Service additive to keep Your fuel fresh. A larger tank so a home delivery truck could come and fill. Maybe volume equals cheaper prices. I found an old 3500 gallon tank off an old delivery truck for 100.00. Put a hand pump with 2 lengths of 20' hoses and automatic nozzle. Work perfect to fill the 2 50 gallon step tanks on My truck at the end of My work day.

For the diesel - get two 300 gallon tanks & mount them on a tall stand. Have both winter & summer offroad delivered. The delivery truck will do the pumping & then gravity will do the rest. Make sure to add a ball valve between tank & filters. For fuel level - add a clear hose from bottom of tank to top.

As far a the nozzle not fitting the bung on the drum, The station I fill my GMC up at has two different sized pump nozzles. The large nozzle is for over the road trucks. That will not fit my pickup, but the smaller one works in mine. Next time you’re there check the both nozzles. I like the idea of the poly tank. There are additives for fuel that you can add to protect the fuel. I use Stanadyne Performance fuel treatment all year around. The lubricity of todays diesel isn’t good since they took the sulfur out. That’s just a side note to protect your machines. I think you’re on the right track. Do what benefits you and your operation. See you in the next installment.

You should consider just having tanks out at your place. 300 gallon size or whatever and call the fuel truck to come fill them when they are getting low. Run the gas through your vehicles if you want to refill it before it gets too old. Diesel lasts a long time in those tanks and most likely would be okay for a year at a time.

Hey Adam I used to manage gas stations and we had to stick the large fuel tanks to check amount and check is there was water in the tank. Ugh, i`m glad i don`t have to worry about keeping a lot of fuel around. This seems like a nightmare Adam. Yup, get rid of those metal drums! For my wife an i, we`re lucky if we burn 15 gallons of diesel a year in our Kubota. We use roughly 20 gallons of non-ethanol gas for the JD420 lawn tractor to mow the yard all summer. I`ve seen those VEVOR plastic tanks... pretty pricey for some plastic. But hey, if it works out better for ya, that`s what matters. That new tank should have a green nozzle, not a red one. The green nozzle has a larger fill pipe too i believe. That green nozzle will help you fill quicker just changing out that red nozzle to the green nozzle.

Ok for your drum your reasons for not keeping the drums can be solved for about 10 bucks. 1) a hardware store carried vents for the small bung on a drum. 2) to keep water out of your tractor it is simple. Use a water block filter, cut your pump tube on an angle and put a wedge under the pump side of the drum. That also keeps the water somewhat off the top of the drum. 3). I can hear the fuel going into my tractor so I can tell when it is getting full. You can also park right next to your drum if you must see. My drums have no rust after 20 yrs of use. We use the same procedure for our aircraft fuel in the bush. So while your tank is nice Noway could l justify a thousand bucks plus freight. Now if they want to give it to me that's a different story. Oh, also you should be running a diesel additive for lubrication and also the additive will absorb any water. The additive is kinda like the fram man without it down the road you are going to have some repairs.

@patrickclochesy1990
@patrickclochesy1990 Жыл бұрын
That's right around the price where you can buy a 100 gallon steel tank, GPI 15GPM automatic pump, and Goldenrod fuel filter housing with a water-separating filter. Though you do have to spend a bit of time assembling it and putting it on a pallet. The big advantages to this are all of the components are Made in the USA, the tank is DOT approved, the pump is UL-listed/CSA approved, parts are available and will be for a long time and the pump is rebuildable, and you get a water separating filter with visible bowl which is really important when storing and using diesel. Steel tanks include a vented cap which only allows vapor to leave the tank, they are spring-loaded and do not allow air to be sucked back in when the tank is cold. While you're right, water does sink to the bottom, rust is really a non-issue because the environment at the bottom of the tank lacks oxygen, and a minimal amount of all types of contaminants is to be expected with a fuel system and should be caught by a high-quality filter. I do use 55 gallon drums for long-term storage though, but I store only diesel. They remain closed tight until I'm ready to use it, when I then pump it into one of the 100 gallon transfer tanks. I got lucky and bought two 100 gallon tanks, 6 or 8 55 gallon drums, as well as the automatic pump before fuel prices spiked last year, and managed to save enough from having the cheap fuel to pay for the entire setup. It sure is convenient!
@libsrdum

Did you check out a desiccator (water scavenger) to screw into the vent hole of the drums? The desiccant is blue when active and changes to pink when it is saturated with moisture, so you know when to change it.
@matthewward631
@matthewward631 Жыл бұрын
I think the filters should be moved to a vertical position. This could make it easier to change the filters (also less mess) and lessen the amount of trapped air in the filters. You might also want to put a roof over the top and add containment underneath. If you have a leak, you don’t want have to deal with your state’s Environmental people (expensive enough to make an accountants head spin). Personally, a 250 gal fuel tank and home delivery would work fine, although it wouldn’t be portable. Less expensive too.

The early 99 7.3 was slapped together with various ford parts and within that slapping together of a vehicle, they used small filler neck diesel pumps. It was so obnoxious having to go thru auto pumps with a trailer. Finally took care of it. Anyways none of this matters I just wanted to bs.

The bungs on the 55 gal tanks are not a good seal once they have been opened. If they are sitting outside where you can get water on the top, they need to be tilted so that the water can't sit around the bung. I would bet that your water problem is more from rain being sucked into the barrel through the bungs than from condensation. The new tank looks like a winner, but I would still figure a way to put a cover over the top.

The any complaint i have with this tank brand are the quality of the plastic, hose. Are good to resist the chemical of diesel and gas?

I think there is a regulation that without some kind of permit, a person can only legally carry 2-55 gallon drums of fuel.

Doubt you'll see this comment now, but I'll ask anyway. I don't remember seeing a long term update on this. Did it work out well or turn out to be junk? Thinking about getting the smaller version.

At $1,000 each and you need 2 that’s awful expensive. Buy a couple of used 200-300 gal. tanks, they are cheap. Have fuel delivered in bulk and have the filter installed vertically to where it actually works. Could also even switch to a drainable filter to check for water.

Betcha the pump burns up pretty quick! I ran a 15 gpm filrite pump off my truck battery and without the truck running it would draw down the battery where I wasn’t getting the full voltage and…. It burned up! I’m no Karnak but my prediction is…..it’ll burn up running it like you did…and even if the tractor is running I predict it’ll burn up!

Expecting 11 gallons more capacity as the plastic bulges out with age seems like an awful stretch. Maybe the manufacturer has a different definition of what a gallon is. This is why the world uses metric. There's no messing with confusing U.S. gallons versus Imperial ones and the math is always just multiples of ten. At least it solves the rust issue for you. I would still mount it up off the ground even on a plate supported by bunch of concrete blocks or something though.

Looks to me like part of the stated volume of the tank is above the fill hole.

@@kengarlin1134 That's what I figured also. They did a "volume" calculation of the theoretical box dimensions without the moulded indentation for the fixtures like it was a plain plastic box.

What were you using so much gasoline for? I've heard it only lasts about 2 or 3 months before it goes "bad".

$2200 for fuel tanks - without fuel! Hey Adam, would you ever be able to afford $2,200 for fuel tanks? Nope, none of us could. That's why you have $450 wrapped up in 2 metal drums and a couple of hand pumps, like the rest of us... Please don't do ads for something you couldn't afford to do yourself. Know your audience!
