here's the official comments after the event... Ethiopian teenager Medina Eisa surged to the line in the Mary Beth Hogan women's 2-mile and took the win in 9:04.39, but she didn't stay in the outside alley to start the race, cutting inside early. She was DQ'ed shortly after the race. Ultimately, Britain's Laura Muir was then named the official winner.11 Feb 2024

I don't understand why the winner of this race wasn't disqualified for leaving her lane (was on outside group) before at least the first turn. She had to be told to reposition herself before the start. A good starter would have immediately stopped the race and instructed the teenager what the rules are for running on indoor tracks. She obviously doesn't know them. This maneuver effectively put her in front of the runners starting along the rail.

She had a number on each side of her shorts. The number on the right fell off around 3:55 +/-. The number on the left fell off around 4:14 video time. They know who the runners are no matter what number is given them. The purpose of the number is to make it easier to identify them for those that don't know them by face. That is, the numbers are helpful for identification but not necessary. Losing the number during the race is not a reason for DQ.
