It’s good he compared different compressors but he’s driving some harder than others and is compressing and making the sound bigger with others. It’s not an even comparison If he had the same settings you could get an idea how much more saturation you get on each one but he drives the native instruments way harder than he drives the waves and that’s why it sounds way more saturated and bigger. Makes no sense at all.

Big thank you for all the work you put into this. For me the Arturia, and the Black Rooster really nail it as well as The Brainworx MC-77. This is the action and sound I would go for a 1176. I own the Rooster and I am thinking since some time about buying the MC-77 as well as a great addition. It´s slightly faster and brighter in tone. I think you should habe put the Softube 1176 in this list too. The Pulsar one can´t be trimmed with a ratio 4:1 like the others, as far as I know it´s All Buttons In only. Incredible how "dead" all the Waves stuff sounds in comparison to the very good other contenders. Thank you again :)

You called it dude! Thanks for your thoughts. You just listed my very fav compressors. The Arturia 1176's saturation and feel...personality is I think my fav out of all of them. The MC77 has an amazing bright groove and vibe as well. Personality in spades. And you're right...the waves are just dead and dumpy. I 've never used the Softube 1176 but I have both the UAD Tube tech and Chandler limited sets and they're amazing. I'll check out their 1176. It looks weird but they say it sounds great. That Rooster 1176 was legit too so you're obviously onto some great stuff. If you haven't already, check out the Klanghelm mjuc. it's a hella cool sounding plug for different applications and it's only 27 bucks.

I must admit UAD is the most transparent. Then TRacks and then Aurturia. A bit disappointed by PSP's FETPressor. I don't understand why people love MC77. Maybe it's because it's the one that compresses the most. But it destroys the bass drum in a bad way. The others are not transparent enough. Mostly because they kill the snare top end. CLAs for example. I like when plugins add something, not when they remove so much. Thank you for the job!

Awesome Video! I still use the UAD legacy 1176LN. I've done these extensive tests before as well.. and there is just something about the original 1176 blackface that makes me pick over any other compressor for vocals. It's a little bit cleaner - so for a dirty vocal (like mine) with a shit ton of saturation already added - it's perfect! Pulsar is my next favorite. And wow.. Black Rooster really blew me away.. I know it was compressing more than the others despite the equal settings.... but still - it had such a sweet tone!

Great job Hasan, this is how comparisons should be done, chapters included aswell for quick comparison. This is pretty much how i would do a comparison video. I was very disapointed in the Overloud but i now realise that you set the attack and release in the opposite direction. For me, UAD 1176 AE became the reference, MC77 was the big colour (possibly closer to hardware) along with NI Vc76 surprisingly. IK T-Racks 76 has a nice envelope but doesn't add much harmonics to fill space. Black Rooster was good but a little bit flat frequency wise. Arturia was good, what i found with their compressor plugins is that they define the punch really well, very similar to hardware, but there is something about the sound the release envelope makes, which makes it a bit annoying. Analogue Obsession make very analogue sounding plugins with their harmonics, but you have to set it right. It may not sound exactly like the hardware version, but they are good sounding plugins, close to hardware in some cases.

Overloud is particularly good at preserving punch in the bass frequencies both with the kick drum and bass guitar. Mellowmuse is very good on the kick drum, very punchy, good bass. Arturia is a bit lifeless. Native Instruments (by Softube) is good at bringing the room on the snare forward but the kick drum loses its envelope. Purple Audio underrepresents bass frequencies but brings forward the snare room very well, more 3D room than Native Instruments (Softube). Analog Obsession sounds brute force and bad with these settings and this material. PSP Compressor preserves envelopes well. Black Rooster is less good than I remember. Envelopes get washed out. Kick drum sounds like kicking a card board box. Stillwell sounds respectable. Pulsar Smasher makes me interested in their full featured 1176.

Sorry for my weak language Yesterday I compared Api 550B plugins on a deep house loop with overloud Gem ' waves ' kush audio ' volko Qb ' T racks 4 and 5 eqs and with the same settings I couldn't achieve the good results but with different settings on all of them I found out that all of them are awesome with different color and characteristic' I used to think that expensive plugins were better or on another way I thought that famous compressors and companies are better I love analog eqs and compressors so much because of their different colors boosting 4 dbs at lowend of bass staffs on Kush audio Axis is so amazing for me and my music style but 2or 3 dbs boosting on overloud Gem 550 does that job for me at the lowend Anyways I wish the best for all this channel activities in music Production

On drums some of these compressors sounded too aggressive. May be a different attack release should work. I found UAD and waves cla to be balanced between aggression and punch. Purple audio sounded too aggressive. Black rooster and analog obsession sounded bad. Overloud, mellowmuse, psp and rocket sounded the least aggressive but these could also work well in an actual mix for the same reason. Can’t come to a conclusion without hearing them in a full mix.

Way too much harmonics on the FETISH, which is in an older version here and I'm not sure they have made changes in sound along the GUI. VC76, Black Rooster and MC77 a bit similar, they are more on the squashier side (still less than the FETISH) but the latter is more pronounced on this. Also, UAD, Black 76, FG116 and maybe the Arturia all sound on the cleaner side. In the analog realm you might discover the same differences from model to model, so it's not possible to say which plugin is more faithful to the real thing. Also, it is not possible to say which one sound best, as anyone may have different taste and needs. The only "better" meter I'd use is when I hear the processed sound more open than boxy. For my taste, I'd have gone for the MC77 but after this comparison maybe I'd rather opt for the Black 76 or the FG-116 (but I won't because you'd have to buy the entire bundle).
