I find the repairs and restorations of gramophones very interesting. These little 😍 machines made very beautiful music 🎶. It is highly recommended 👌 to wear gloves, face, and body protection, especially when working with the mainspring barrel. Please keep these GREAT gramophone videos coming!! Just subbed yesterday!! Your friend, Jeff!!

To lift the motor board out of a credenza first remove the crank. Then move the tonearm to the side. Be careful you don’t hit anything. Take the reproducer off and put it in a safe place. Then undo the black bolts. Gently remove the turntable, and the lift knob is to the lower left of the turntable. Call up on that and the whole board pivots up.

Great video! You inspired me to take my vv 4 3 motor out. It was making this clicking sound when spinning. Found inches of caked on grease all over the motor. Used a papertowel to get as much off as i could and reoiled with sewing machine oil. Can you do a video on degreasing a motor? How do you get that stuff off.

What kind of grease can you grease these with? I have some high temp brake grease here. The grease on my early 1900s Victrola is just caked on and old…someone put way too much on. It’s old a starting to harden up. I am trying to clean it up.

Three questions. Did you crank your phonograph up all the way? Not just a few cranks but you wind it up all the way. Did you put on a new fresh needle? Did you clean your 78’s before you’re playing them? You can buy new needles off Amazon and I have a video on how to clean 78 RPM records
@pincher111
@pincher111 2 жыл бұрын
@@1974hurt I’m gave it a really good crank, although I might have been able to crank it a turn or two more, I didn’t clean the record, and the needle wasn’t new, although it seemed in good shape. Does it make a difference that the Vinyl is from the 70s 80s, because I have a few old 78’s and they seem to play well, finally my reproducer is original, and it could use a new rubber. Would buying a new reproducer play newer vinyl better? I really appreciate your time, and absolutely love your videos
@1974hurt

@@pincher111 You cannot play vinyl from the 70s and 80s. This machine will only play 78 RPM, and vinyl from the 70s and 80s ones at 33 1/3 RPM.

Are the procedures to lift and oil an orthophonic victrola nearly the same? I have a VV 4-7. Will you please point out any differences that I might encounter when “checking under the hood” for the first time? Do I still have to take the reproducer off? I’m not sure there is a nob to pull up the motor board like there is on that machine. Thanks for your wisdom!
@1974hurt
@1974hurt 3 жыл бұрын
Start by undoing the four screws, remove the crank, remove the turntable, remove the reproducer always. If you do not have a pull knob then take a Phillips screwdriver and put it in the screw hole for the motor board and gently push and lift up. The procedures to oil are the same is on the video. Keep me posted and call me if you have any problems.

Hi Mr Hurt, had a question about my 1918 Victrola. When I got it home from the estate sale I tried to adjust the speed lever to get the song correct and now when I put the reproducer down in the record the turntable stops. I lift the needle off and and it begins to spin again. It acts like I’m putting a brick on it and weighing it down. Any idea what a novice can check? Also what type of oil do you recommend? Thanks. Bob

Start by thoroghly cleaning the record. I have a video. then use a new needle, you can get them off Amazon. Crank the phonograph all the way up, not just a few cranks, but wind the spring completely until it stops. turn the speed control clockwise, and play the record.
