#119 - DIY How to Pour Your Own Fluid Acrylic Christmas Ornaments 🎄 Using The Bloom Technique
I was really blown away by the response I got in several of my Facebook acrylic pouring groups when I recently posted photos of some ornaments I had done. Several people asked for a video tutorial to show the process and I am always too happy to oblige if it helps people learn this really fun way to paint ornaments.

**I got into acrylic pouring after playing around with epoxy resin and wanting to do some art with it. After realizing the amount of time it took to prep and clean up, it wasn’t quite as appealing to me anymore. That’s when I stumbled onto some KZbin videos about acrylic pouring and I WAS HOOKED. This was in 2020, and with COVID running rampant, it was the perfect thing to keep me occupied and staying home, safe and sound. This art form is extremely cathartic and empowering at the same time.
There’s no greater feeling than pouring paint on to a canvas and watching magic happen before your eyes! I’m so honored to be displaying my work in two local restaurants and a gallery, Art Machine Gallery, here in Houston - so exciting! Thank you so much for coming along on this journey with me!**

The thing with the Prizm Pour is that you don’t have to mix them with anything. I probably should’ve used them straight out of the bottle and kept the consistency super thick.

I love them, they're all gorgeous. I have a question, I'm sure it's a dumb question but I'm going to ask anyway. Can I add mica powder to white paint or black paint? If I can what kind of paint should I use? instead of buying so many different colors of paint. Thank you
@BrittClaytonDesign
@BrittClaytonDesign Жыл бұрын
Hi Pam! You can, but it won’t make a lot of difference. Mica is dependent on light for its shine - so if it’s mixed with paint, that paint is going to hinder a lot of the light from reflecting off the mica.

I've just found these beauties. Thank you for sharing! I don't know if you have time to answer a question, but just in case: how long do you wait for the paints to dry on one side before being able to tape over it and paint the other side, please? Thank you!!! Susan H.
@BrittClaytonDesign
@BrittClaytonDesign 5 ай бұрын
Hi Susan, thank you so much! In answer to your question: because I’m using housepaint for these (the bloom technique), I do one side one day, and the next day I do the other side. The enamel dries really fast so I can get them all done in a weekend.

When you say 3.5p of the floetrol what does the p stand for? And do you have a link for floetrol? I’ve heard many say they use the Australian and that some of the others are the wrong kind and won’t work…I don’t know what the difference is when looking it up
@BrittClaytonDesign
@BrittClaytonDesign 8 ай бұрын
Hey Bonnie! The p stands for part. Your basis for measuring is usually the amount of paint you use. So if you use an ounce of paint, that would mark your ONE part. I used 3.5 parts of Aussie Floetrol, which would be 3.5 ounces. You can find Australian Floetrol at www.Fluid-Art.co. Go to their website and look at the photo of it. Then look up Flood Floetrol on Home Depot’s website. You’ll see the difference in the bottles.

Hi Beth! The tape just peels off. Do it very slowly along the tape line and it’ll come right off. Both sides of the ornament are bloomed on, so they look the same on both sides.

Hi Karen! I think I waited about 24 hours before I did the second side. Bloom paint dries incredibly fast.

Hello. Im new to your channel. I love these ornaments. Almost all of the ornaments on my tree are hand-made by me, so when I saw these, I had to watch how you made them. Can I use plastic instead of glass ornaments ?

These are beautiful. When you taped the 1st completed side, how long did you allow it to dry? I’d be afraid to pull off the paint when pulling off the tape.

I let them dry about 24 hours. You’re using bloom recipe paint, which is enamel, so it dries very quickly and it’s pretty tough.

Love these! May be a dumb question but do you simply just let the paint slide off and not tilt or spin? Thank you!
@BrittClaytonDesign
@BrittClaytonDesign 10 ай бұрын
That is correct. You let gravity do the work for you. These are way too small to spin. The weight of the paint spreads the bloom out.

You mention the cell activator. Is that the black drop that you added or was that paint? How important is it to have a heat torch?
@BrittClaytonDesign
@BrittClaytonDesign 10 ай бұрын
Yes, the black drop was the CA. Cell activator IS paint. In this case it was Amsterdam Lamp Black mixed with Australian Floetrol. All of my recipes are always listed in the video description so you can copy them down and try them in your own artistry!

Gravity works as your spinner. Because of the shape, the paint will run just a bit, so there isn’t too much paint left.

HAVE YOU EVER BLOWN ON EACH COLOR BEFORE YOU PUT THE NEXT COLOR ON?? JUST A THOUGHT ❣❣❣
@BrittClaytonDesign
@BrittClaytonDesign 8 ай бұрын
Hey there! There would honestly be no reason to do that, as you want the cell activator to spread across the colors as your blowing them out. If you blew out each color before, the colors collectively would be too thin and you wouldn’t get the same effect.

Do you need a torch, and, if so, what is the name of the torch. Or can you use a blow dryer on high?
@BrittClaytonDesign
@BrittClaytonDesign 8 ай бұрын
Hi Sally! No, I don’t torch blooms. The pouring medium is house paint and a torch won’t pop any air bubbles. Plus the heat will create a skin and that’s no bueno. I just have to go over it when I’m done and pop any by hand. These are just small chef’s torches - they have a huge selection on Amazon.
