How an Atlanta realtor is trying to stop 'predatory' home buying

As they build high price home in your community, the value of property increases, taxes and insurance through the roof, makes it hard to keep your homes for those who are on a fix income. Ask FL residents 🤔

Yes, and it’s happened more than once in Florida. In the 60s so many seniors were taxed out of their homes because of real,estate speculation. I can recall some very pitiful stories from that time. Many with health and mental issue didn’t even understand what was happening and had their homes confiscated and were put on the street.

So do this, pass out flyers to the WHOLE neighborhood, explaining the GENTRIFICATION SCHEMES. In the flyers, explain that they are being targeted to sale valuable assets fro dirt cheap. Teach & Inform! The city also needs to cut out the raising of property taxes & levying fines, to these FIXED income elders. That is how they PRESSURE them to sale. The city is in concert witht these predatory INVESTORS & DEVELOPERS.

I get multiple calls from all over the country, tons of junkmail, even door to door salespeople to try to get me to sell my house. Its insane. Theres rrally no way to develop for my neighborhood, just big companies trying to own tons of rentals and drive the costs up

Not that simple. As Home prices go up property taxes go up as well. Even if those people dont sell they may not be able to afford the higher property taxes thus forcing them out anyway.

Atlanta needs to pass ordinances and laws to protect historically black neighborhoods from predators. And have the law say that they have to pay market value for their homes. If not, they need to go to jail and their company should be closed because what they’re doing is illegal and unethical.

These communities should come together and agree not to sell unless everyone in the community agrees to sell to one buyer! That is how you protect your communities from gentrification. And if everyone agrees to sell, name your price! Another option is for black folks in the community to work together and upgrade your homes in the community to reflect the home price transition if you can. I have a friend who bought her home by east lake golf course in the early 1990's for under 200,000. The homes in the area now go for 850,000 and up. She took her small house and upgrade it. Now it's worth just as much or more. She will not be gentrifried out of her community!

The only houses that should be targeted is Vacant deteriorating houses that brings down the community the property values. Which causes rodents, Crime,Etc. there should be a purpose in real estate and that to make the community better ❤

In Austin Texas I saw a black man on his porch all the time! a month later the house was being Renovated and then I saw on the News what was happening! they were Buying up properties and making Lofts!. Closer commute to downtown for the Millennials!.

The houses aren't becoming more valuable, money is becoming less valuable. If you priced your house in gold ounces, you will see that from purchase to sale houses are actually becoming cheaper in alot of markets.

People are making offers and no one has to sell. Predatory is quite a stretch. The fact people are coming to your house, calling, and mailing you offers tells you your house is in demand. I'm in ATL and I get that BS everyday too.

I am so sick of these tactics however why does it appear our community not no anything? I don't believe that many of these people don't know the value of their homes no matter what age they are. Where are there kids to help with this?Age does not mean you are aware of the world around you. So they live in a bubble and never read or watch news ? I would imagine it would have to be a very low percentage of these types of home purchases too. Education and knowledge does not age.I see many in our community that don't try to be informed about anything and leave it to "Whyte Jesus ".

I agree. I'm a home health nursing assistant and most of the homes I go into are so outdated, falling apart. Most peolple have no clue what it is like to help a 80-90 year old use the bathroom who can barely walk or stand without assistance of a walkerin a bathroom that is not quite four wide. With inflation, high prices, and severe nursing/nursing aide shortage, older folks might be quick to sell just because they need money
