Salmon never travel alone!
So when you hook a salmon, whether you land it or not, get your fly straight back into the same spot where you hooked the first one. You’ll be surprised at how many times you get another take, immediately.
On this day, our gauge on the upper beat stood at minus four inches, which equates to plus four inches on the SEPA gauge at Ness Side.
Water temperature was 12 degrees and the air temperature was 13 degrees. We experienced the four seasons throughout the day, exacerbated by a howling south westerly wind.
Donald was using a five foot fast tip on a floating shooting head
There are no images of the fly used to hook the salmon in the video footage. However, I can tell you that it was a sparsely dressed mini sunray, tied on a one inch aluminium tube with a short wing.
Wise words…… “If you haven’t lost any, youve not caught many”.

Outstanding Donald well done and another cracking video Cam. You could see the lice on its tail on the slo Mo release. Water looks a tad low but so clear. Well done lads 🫡

Excellent well done both, persistence paid off, helped by a fish that decided to leap into the net! What a stunning fish, bar of pure silver! Thanks for sharing loved the underwater shots in such really gin clear water-amazing!

Glad to hear that you enjoy the underwater shots. It’s incredible to think that the crystal clear water in the river, is very heavily peat stained when it enters Loch Ness!
