I agree with Julian that it all comes down to the resistance of the coils that provide the field for the armature. If you either lower the resistance or replace with rare earth magnets will give the desired results. Very strong rare earth magnets will give you a very good result, much better than the standard arc magnets usually found in DC motors

To make a motor self excite, it is necessary to turn it backward. Turn the motor on, using any source, and see which way it turns. If spun in the REVERSE direction, the motor will self excite, unless there is an underlying problem, such as the RPM too low, or, a shorted armature or field winding. I can't see from this video, but, you may need to use something faster than a drill, and even if the drill is fast enough, try changing direction on the drill, so the motor spins the opposite direction that it normally runs. With a high impedance motor like that, it might be necessary to use a high enough DC voltage, to get enough gauss strength to overcome the hysteresis of the field stator iron. That motor WILL generate, you just need to use high enough speed, and enough DC current to overcome its higher impedance.

Some universal motors don't self-excite becuse the field winding resistance is too high and it is a series-wound motor

You said it yourself, it's all about the resistance of the child's needing excitation. If the resistance in a high then you need a large feedback voltage to induce the magnetic fields required to produce power.

Electricity is produce by when magnet is moved through.a coil voltage is induced ie permenant magnet. Here there is no magnetic field because there is no magnetism formed due to electro magnetic method when there is no current / voltage is passed through the coil. Thus there is no magnetic field. Voltage is not induced
