Richard Allen Lupoff (February 21, 1935 - October 22, 2020) was an American science-fiction and mystery author, who also wrote humor, satire, nonfiction and reviews. In addition to his two dozen novels and more than 40 short stories, he also edited science-fantasy anthologies. He was an expert on the writing of Edgar Rice Burroughs, and had an equally strong interest in H. P. Lovecraft. He also co-edited the non-fiction anthology All in Color For a Dime (with Don Thompson), which has been described as "the very first published volume dedicated to comic book criticism";[1] as well as its sequel, The Comic-Book Book.[2]

I had forgotten all about this film, yet when the person gets shot, it felt familiar. Then, when the lightning bolt hit, some distant memories came back. They were mainly memories of familiarity, though I forgot all the specifics of the film. This film was the reason I felt a sense of Deja Vu, when watching that particular episode of SG-1. (The one, where they send golf balls through the gate. I knew that there had been other sci-films, that had used the Groundhog Day idea. I guess, that's the nature of TV movies. They often borrow themes from popular movies. I remember seeing commercials for it. They might have even repeated it a couple of times. I feel like I saw it more than once. Sci-Fi films weren't that common for TV specials, so it was typically welcome to see one. With TV specials, you never knew what you would get. Thanks for unlocking the memory. I'm glad I had mostly forgotten it, otherwise It wouldn't have been a surprise as it was unfolding. I DO remember that I thought it was unfortunate to fight so hard for the conclusion to that particular loop, since Denk was dead, and they were aware of it. If he had merely allowed himself to loop one more time, he might have found a way to tie up that final loose end.

I'm about halfway through, and I'm wondering: Since he seems to be independent of the loop (in it, but not condemned to repeat his actions), what would happen if he got killed? Someone else gets killed, they are back when the loop repeats; but would he be back? If he would not be back, the butterfly effect could change what happens in the big picture of things, possibly even preventing the loop. Ah, but then if the loop were prevented, he wouldn't ... Oh, never mind.

@richNfit4life2 ай бұрын
@@We_All_Seek_Truth On considering further the idea to go for one more repeat in order to save the detective, or whatever he was, it might not work since each timeline produces different events. Some other really unfortunate circumstance would probably have occurred and this could create an endless cycle of going for one more repeat to prevent it. Self interest was his motivation as he only cared about her life because he got something out of it. Anyone’s death does not matter as long as it was not hers. He said it himself, his motivation was self interest.

@gunterhentschel64743 ай бұрын
Not a "new Groundhog Day". Groundhog Day was filmed in parallel and came out shortly after. Richard Allen Lupoff (February 21, 1935 - October 22, 2020) had the idea since years, and had started to work on the script already together with Philip Morton, in 1989. Philip Morton worked together with Danny Rubin as script writers for the Saturday Night Live TV-show. When Lupoff found producers to "12:01" be filmed, Rubin, teamed up with Harold Ramis, had gone to a bigger story with their script for "Groundhog Day". Rubin stole from Lupoff, using the ideas Morton told him. But in this human world, the crook at the end is the hero, and the creator forgotten.

@PatrickMcGowan-ch4ho 🤔 "12:01" is the original story, while another Hollywood blockbuster, coming out the same year, is the comedy version: Groundhog Day,. 12:01 is based on an idea by Richard Allen Lupoff (February 21, 1935 - October 22, 2020; one of US' most important sci fi authors), who wrote the movie's script himself, but 3 years later (1996) published the novel "before... 12:01... and after", where the comedian elements have been less and the thriller element is dominating completely, creating more of a crime sci fi thriller.
@johnwilson57432 ай бұрын
The gorgeous "Super Girl" played her part well. But the main guy definitely was miscast. He just doesn't fit as her love interest. His character's actions and dialogue throughout the movie do not gel. Effectively, he's a moron. Hopeless at everything. Can't even manage his own life re getting up in the morning and getting to work on time. He looks, talks and acts like some 18 year old. She on the other hand, is meant to be a Phd qualified person. Is very attractive etc etc. and acts like a late 20's- 30 adult. The audience is meant to believe that just because he lusts after her like some labrador dog that they are a match. However, the movie was still enjoyable. Yes, I wondered which came first: this movie or the Groundhog movie. Exact same premise.
