I will also miss this Wed Fod mornings greatly. Never sad about more bant / game discussion at the GW table, personally I love that sort of talk just as much as the actual gameplay. As much great production as the GCN has, it's still the most actual friends-at-a-table play show around.

Its the same on the 'Do't ask for a roll if you don't have a plan for the success condition" -- all too often when players are being gremlins, with a crazy idea that the GM doesn't want to deal with, don't ask for a roll, since its a 100% chance for a nat 20.....

I personally like this option as well - secret or fake rolls, and lie. Also your players for their Perception/Int/etc mods, do a few rolls behind the screen, and then either use those or decide which PC remembers or notices a thing that is important. Honest GM'ing means not lying/cheating to get ahead, but lying/cheating to keep your party moving.
@TheLibGamerАй бұрын
for non-fighters, a +10 to hit on the first attack is near the top, but it still comes down to the tactics. You are getting better at achieving off guard, but still don't get many de-buffs applied to your enemies(frightened, grappled/tripped, sickened, enfeebled, dazzled, etc.)
@TheLibGamerАй бұрын
off guard is a circumstance penalty, but you can also look for better ways to apply status penalties (typically the conditions like frightened)
@TheLibGamerАй бұрын
Buggles is amazing and has come in clutch for damage on many occasions, but typically the primary spell caster roll is to apply these status conditions

Obviously you have come up with a great alternative, but gunna miss this weekly check-in, and although it doesn't touch on in depth, all of the shows, that doesn't seem necessary. Have a great festive season!

I've had the same sitch, where players fail the roll to get them through that door. Here's what I have done: While the PCs are trying to figure out what to do, the bad guys (having heard the PCs attempting to pick the lock) open the door to see what's going on. You bring the bad guys to the stuck players! Once they defeat the baddies, the story can move on.
@kreddyfruger7905Ай бұрын
Good bye, FoddPod! Long live New FoddPod (7.0, accordingly to Troy)!
@benallen7403Ай бұрын
I summarize the discussion on rolling as "not everything needs to be a roll". Both Pathfinder 1 and 2e, along with probably all tactical games, can very quickly get slowed down in a variety of ways. One of the best ways to speed things up is to simply reduce the amount of rolling that players need to do. Are the PCs in a combat that they're absolutely going to win but it's going to take a couple more rounds before the match gets them there? Consider ending the combat cinematically and just moving on, especially if it's not a boss fight. As Joe said, if there's something that realistically everyone would notice, like an army in the distance, you can just tell the players about it and then if an individual player wants to do a roll for some specific piece of information they can do that. When one of my players wants to jump off a table and attack the bad guy sometimes I'll make them roll an acrobatics check or something, but sometimes if I want to move the game forward or I just want them to have their cool moment they just get to do it. As the Core Rulebook says at the front, the rules are a guide, not a religious text.

Sorry Professor Eric but I have to disagree because the spell Invisibility does state it makes you undetected and puts the responsibility on the other creature to try and find the invisible creature with a seek action to drop that to hidden.
@ViruzFitiaАй бұрын
I usually do an Intelligence check for 5e and give them more specific info. Like if you can't remember a person at all I might ask you to roll and depending on if you roll high you remember the name and everything but a lower roll you remember the instance but you can't recall the name.

I GMd for a single player and it was a forensic investigation situation and my player rolled a 1 and i didnt give him any clues , now we were stuck. what i should have done was let him have one clue as that would atleast have us get somewhere. Now i had to let the city watch bring him the clues in order to be able to continue the adventure. with fewer players the risk of failing a check increases so make sure to lower the DCs a bit or at least have a fail forward planned. Sad to see fodder go as it is a great resource for GMs and if there is one thing ttrpgs need its more GMs

Hey folks, to touch on Joe's passing comment about Barnes and his attack rolls. I believe the intent was that Barnes would have the highest To Hit of the party's classes, but I still thought it might prove useful to point out that Barnes is pretty far away from having the highest To Hit of all classes. First, Barnes has a +3 in his attack stat rather than a +4. This puts him slightly behind to hits than most other characters but still with a decent bonus. But more importantly, Fighters and Gunslingers begin the game with the Expert proficiency in relevant weapons, and have faster proficiency progression than any other class. At level 4, a Fighter with a +4 stat, and a +1 potency rune would be looking at a +13 to hit. A sizeable difference to Barnes' +10. Regardless of this rule or that, you guys have put together an amazing series of Fods, and while I'm sad to see this instance leave, I'm very excited to see what you have coming up.
@thunderspikes22 күн бұрын
In addition to this, Joe said something along the lines of "that means this creature is 6lvls above the party." A Fighter at lvl5 gets Master proficiency with their chosen sub group, bumping their to hit up to a +16 (with potency). So even discounting that single encounter creatures generally have higher to hits, in terms of to hit, it's only one level higher.
@docmysterio71Ай бұрын
Takes away a Heal? Your Heal spells are separate than your spell list. If you choose to swap out spells for extra Heals that's fine but you also have Battle Medicine and party members SHOULD have healing potions. Your first level spells should be Defensive and Utility. Use Cantrips for Attack and your Heal Font to heal.
@jamiewampler2283Ай бұрын
Yeah, he preps more heals than just the ones he gets with his divine font.

@TheGlassCannon Absolutely. I remember underestimating the cat at the moment too. I just think it's important to remember as a cleric if an enemy has knocked off half yours or an allies HP, your focus should be on healing than taking an attack. Let the damage dealers kill the thing while you focus on keeping everyone up.

It was a pretty brutal encounter with that cat. Seems like Troy hits on a 5 up and the party needs 15 up. Rough! But, even rolling as poorly as the party does, only 2 are down after raining crits on them.

@Familystone7828 күн бұрын
Joe change your mindset be a more proactive cleric and less responsive cleric. You dont need to have nothing but heals, the font is all you need , you need to buff ! you know those +1s are important but youre not using them. Also please try to get Zeph a Gakgung so she can have the range she wants and add half her strength to damage without having to deal with volley.

Get in the Trunk Season 7 when??
@LightningRaven42Ай бұрын
Barns definitely is not the highest possible at the level. For the character? Yes. For a character? No. Other melee combatants (like Zephyr) should have +1 above him (until he gets that +4 on STR), Fighters and Gunslingers have +3 on him (+4STR plus Expert in Weapons). You guys gotta understand, aside from Asta, you are all pretty much a party of Specialists and Spellcasters, high on skills and low on defense. You gotta play and buy stuff to shore up these weaknesses (defensive items, mobility options). Also, Brother Ramius is focusing way too much on Healing. The cleric Font should be more than enough. The spellslots should be as proactive as possible to PREVENT the damage. PF2e healing is good, but preventing damage is better (more action efficient).

I honestly thing perception checks are some of the msot useless aspects of modern fantasy RPGs. I do use them occasionally because players expect them, but wuen its a group, I like to use group success as a metric. So if 1 person succeeds or most people succeed that leads to different information and results.
