Yes, when you find the springs to a beaver trap you know your on an oooooold site! There are also other pieces like the spike and chain that connects to the trap or the jaws and trigger mechanism they will show up as well. Thanks again Chris!

Thanks Richard, Merry Christmas to you and your family. I found some more goodies out there today but the video memory was full. Took pictures though, found a half dime, another complete dragoon button and another rare artillery button. I got my Christmas presents and I'm happy!

What a great bunch of relics! The site is trying to tell a story? How many folks were encamped there and for what period of time? Thanks for sharing.
@kcsteve596 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dave! Yes these sites tell a wonderful story and that is why I enjoy this hobby so much. The number of folks would be less than half a dozen in my estimation, not a very big camp at all. The iron was shallow and minimal which tells me this was an over night camp, couple days at the most. Friendly Indians were camped close by the Dragoons, date of the camp would have to be mid 1830's, the Dragoons came into my area in 1834. The early artillery button found was possibly traded with an Indian from soldiers passing through the area as they were traveling up the Missouri River towards Fort Atkinson in the 1820's, this of course is all my own observation and research.

Steve, where on earth did you find the clay pipe stem!!! I have a bowl that was given too me but no stem. I didn't think they were found here in mo. Too much. Nice brass. What did u call it? That held small beads or twine in it? So cool! Nice D. Button and back and even finding the coral bell piece was great!
@kcsteve596 жыл бұрын
Thanks Norma, rolled brass made into tinklers for noise and decorations. Pipe stem found a long ways from Mo. but then again you never know, ha!

Some really nice finds. Could the first one be the top of a Conestoga bell instead of a crotal bell?
@kcsteve596 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mama, no I've got a conestoga bell. The bell I found looks totally different in the shape. I'm researching it right now to see if it came from the Hudson Bay Company up North. An exciting piece for sure!!! Thanks again my friend!

To me, personal items, (cross), are the greatest of treasure. I want to come to Kansas to search for artifacts of my GG Grandfather and would like to know, weather wise, what time of year would be the mildest?
@kcsteve596 жыл бұрын
Good luck with that Chuck, weather can change on a dime...we're in Kansas!

Bennington, but looking at Google Earth, it looks like his blacksmith shop has a building over it. I need to look over my genealogy notes and make sure I'm looking at in the right area. I live in CA, single and retired and was looking forward to a road trip.
