I have long been a proponent of needing a winter or W endorsement to drive in inclement conditions such as these. Every winter, especially the first few snow falls of the season dipshit drivers that do not know or have forgotten how to drive in the snow wreak havoc on the roads. Special training on a skid pad, simulator and education on required equipment for winter would be mandatory regardless of the class of license. There are as many dipshit truck drivers as car drivers it seems. If you get two accidents (which include ditching it or wipe outs) in three years you loose your W rating. Caught driving without a W rating in declared conditions and it is an automatic charge of driving without a license. But not likely to happen.

I’d Rather Park it than Spend an hour chaining only to get run over or held up by spin outs from others that didn’t chain up or wrecks that closed the Pass altogether We have too many Inexperienced drivers & too many Foreign Drivers that are just dangerous in these conditions I have 20 years of driving a truck & the last 5 have gotten worse with the new breed of drivers Trucks & Cars that are complete idiots in the winter it’s Safer to Park it & Wait it out I’d rather get the Load there Late than not at All your life should be more important than the Load

Pick a lane and stay there! CDL driver here, if you jump around you cause problems! Being selfish by showing that your time is more important than everyone else’s is not being a good driver/operator. At best you saved 2 minutes, whoo whoo. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of life…

He's got a better tire setup for snow and he didn't cause problems for anyone, he's just a better driver in snow than most. He also broke trail for traffic in the snowy lane every other pussy is afraid to go into. The real problem is anyone who's unprepared, no snow tires so the lanes get narrower and norrower and it only takes one spinning and stuck to stop the whole show.

I plowed snow in that area. This is pretty light but definitely not insignificant. The snow load in the Sierras can be absolutely terrifying when it gets bad. We’d always plow a path for the first responders first, of course, and many customers complained that we were playing favoritism. Of course we were. The accidents were off the charts when we got a dump, did these morons think they’d be safer with nurses, firemen and cops spending eight hours digging out of their driveways? I just don’t understand the disconnect the vacationers have from reality.

It is reminded me our driving in Quebec province in Canada. We leave Montreal toward Quebec city weather in Montreal is fined with sunshine and soon you have hit little bit beyond Drumondville about half way to Quebec city weather changes and road which is Trans Canada Highway become icy than a we bit of snow and sooner or later we are hitting real winter weather. This is in a span of about 60 miles from Montreal and things get worst as you get toward Quebec city which is from Drumondville to Quebec city 145 miles about. So we have to be very careful in these type of road conditions. I am admiring your driving . You are made for this type winter drive.

Very good, that the Police controlls, wether the trucks are prepaired for the snow. And it seems to be enough space for the drivers to park and do the chaining. On our narrow German highways a little bit of snow causes always big long queues, because the trucks are mostly not using snowtires, especially the foreign drivers from south east European countries. If the first one gets stuck on a hill the other one tries to overtake and gets stuck too. Another one tries to overtake on the third lane and also gets stuck. So all three lanes are blocked by some stupid truckdrivers and there wouldn't even remain enough space for the snowplowers to go through. I think even for trucks snowtires should be obgligate. And the Police must controll more strickt. When they stop us in our ordinary vehicles, even with my 4x4 2017 Kia Sorento and I wouldn't have the right tires, under such snow conditions, I would have to pay a high panalty and I wouldn't be allowed anymore to continue my journey.
