12 Age of Empires TIPS AND TRICKS

In this list video, we will cover some very useful Age of Empires tips and tricks such as stopping boars, negating hill bonuses, cutting through walls, and repairing from 2 tiles away. Full list below.
1. Build a house on the boar to stop it
2. Chop the tree to break through the wall
3. Destroy opponent's fallen trees by building over them
4. Delete mangonel to negate hill bonus
5. Pikemen have an attack bonus vs ships
6. When the opponent builds a tower in your base, get Fletching, then build a counter tower exactly 9 tiles away.
7. Build your tower 3 tiles back from the palisade to avoid detection.
8. Focus attacks on one unit by using "stand ground"
9. Use "stand ground" with patrol to make units stay in vertical orientation
10. To throw away the wood, just retask to different resources
11. Use staggered formation when fighting against scorpions
12. Use this trick to safely repair from 2 tiles away!

Thoughts: #1: building a foundation also deaggros wolves #2: only delete a mangonel if you are sure you will lose it #3: if you have to use pikemen against ships due to loss of water control the game is most likely already over #4: by the time you get fletching more towers could be attacking, better just to build your own and repair while waiting for fletching #5: you shouldn't fight siege with crossbow unless you're desperate, cavalry is best #6: the repair from one tile away if most effective in a tower war Good video, I enjoyed these tips though you never see them at top level.

JadeArrowGamer, thanks for sharing your opinion. So right, some of these tricks (like deleting the mangonel) I've only seen once or twice in pro games, because they're so situational. But it's still cool to know about all the little quirks in AOE. Also, I think using crossbow against siege is an interesting question. As you said, using cavalry against siege is often the most effective option. But if there is just one or two siege units, and your micro is good, the player really should consider trying to micro, and it might allow you to keep the pressure on and close out a game faster. But for the amount of scorpions shown in tip 11, actually yeah that would be a pretty dumb fight to take with just crossbows XD

Great video, but I think many of these features were patched away in Aoe 2 HD (2013) itself. Probably similar to the 'Farm Exploring bug', where you could explore the map by building farms in small patches of explored land. The mangonel-deleting situation was really interesting though. Never even knew there was something like that.

Most of these tricks don't rely on game quirks, bugs or other but simply on ingame functions or are just a matter of strategies. The only ones I'm not sure of are No 1, 4 and 9 since I haven't tested those. No 9 I would however expect to work the same.
