Thanks for the video. Glad you are feeling better! Took one book mentioned off my TBR and added 2. For the moment, living in the U.S., I find myself reading books like In Ascension (quick read and enjoying the story) and non-fiction about the deep ocean and deep space. A little bit of escapism to maintain sanity. 😱

Watched your 2023 review of In Ascension. Lol..brutal!:) I don't disagree. I am shocked this made the Booker longlist that year. The prose doesn't stand out and there is basically no character development. The main character has no personality or depth. Science aside (letting this part slide), I am mildly entertained by the plot because I need something mindless and escapist at the moment and it is a VERY easy read. I thought it would be much more existential.Never trust marketing! It's kind of like a low budget sci-fi paperback or film. Will be interesting to see what the Booker judges promote this year;)

Also I'm currently reading My sister's keeper by Jodi Picoult... I like it very much so far... Would like to hear your thoughts on it if you have read it please....

Wish I had seen you video before spending my walks listening to Clean. Something was missing, interesting structure about without much for this reader. Just finished Old God's Time by Sebastian Barry. Talk about a misery read. that one took 1st prize. Mighty Red sounds like one I might pick up.

I’m reading Gifted now and feeling all the same things. I was excited about this because it’s longlisted for The Republic of Consciousness Prize - US and Canada but it is not delivering. There is so much potential here and I think that if this were a 250-300 page book and she elaborated on things, I would be loving it. Big disappointment for me.

Agree to disagree about Clean. I liked it. We don't normally have such polar reactions to the same book, do we? Weird. Thanks for the sidebar about abuse in the LGTBQ community. It's a topic that needs a louder voice, for sure. Hope you feel better soon.

Suspect Clean is exactly the type of book we might disagree on. South American literary horror/thriller/mystery is really hit and miss for me, it always seems like something I will like, but often it's only pleased other readers.
