You didn't have to come of age during the 1970's to recognize true quality and the "Culture Greatness" that was happening from the 70's and through the 80's. Even though I grew up in the late 80's through the 90's i easily recognize that the music, the movies, the fashion, and the general attitudes and mindset of those times were incomparable to ANYTHING that has happened since. I feel true sadness for young people growing up now. What do they have? House parties? Masks, and sickness, and paranoia? We are our memories. and we are lucky to have them during such dark and rotten times. When there is nothing to look forward to, it's nice to be able to look back, and remember the great times..this world was really something.

Disco never died, or will die, it just takes a nap and lies dormant until it gets the call to wake up. NuDisco & some current dance music is paying 70's Disco a little respect and giving us back the rythmn and beats to dance to, but it's not supplying the atmosphere and energy in the same way mid 70's Disco did, which is a shame 'cos a lot of the new stuff isn't that bad. It definitely won't be anything we' ll be looking back on and remembering fondly like we do today with 70's Disco and the clubs we used to dance in. In the UK when my friends and I went clubbing we had to drive sometimes over 200 miles to get to the biggest and most popular club of the period which added to the excitement and adrenalin fueled anticipation of getting there ready to dance for 3-4 hours. Sometimes we'd take extra clothes to change into when we got back to the car as we were so wet due to so much sweating on the dancefloor. We didn't need E's, speed, or any other drugs to help us enjoy the night either ! ! ! Nor did we drink much alcohol, plus the gay discos/clubs had membership rules so we knew that we were in a safe environment where we could be ourselves dancing that bit closer to each other than we would in a straight club where the dancefloor was usually full of groups of giggling girls dancing around their handbags in the middle of the floor. If two men were seen dancing together in a straight club in the mid 70's here in UK we'd be sniggered at by the guys leaning against the bar and pointed and laughed at by the silly giggling girls, it wasn't fun in straight pubs/bars or disco/clubs here in UK. Things changed in the latter part of the 70s early 80s when some disco music had become so popular that the acts were seen on TV and in pop music magazines. Straight clubs became more relaxed towards gay guys dancing together, previously the security staff (big fat bouncers) used to ask us not to dance together, seriously they did. A lot of gay clubs dropped membership rules and started letting gays bring their straight friends, usually girls, to join us and experience our music scene for the first time. Gay clubs were no longer the special safe haven for us to escape to anymore. Personally I think that's part of the contribution to the "end" of the gay Discos and clubs. Girls came to gay clubs to watch and laugh about the gorgeously handsome bare chested men with their rippling muscles dripping with sweat gyrating their hips and bodies together around the dancefloor to highly energetic music that they themselves just couldn't dance to, so they became bar hoppers drinking, getting drunk and even fighting in gay clubs over men that they couldn't have. It annoyed us so much that we just stopped going to those clubs anymore, instead finding quieter wine bars and eaterys' that we could meet up in, that is until a couple of years later exactly the same thing happened all over again. Yes it's great nowadays that gays and straights mix together amiably and the world is so much better for the teenage gays of today, but back then it wasn't so easy for us all, black, white, gay or straight etc etc to be together under one roof or in the same venues for 4 hours on Friday and Saturday nights. Disco music got us through a hell of a lot, the fighting, the riots and the uneasiness in the 70's was helped towards calm by really good dance music. Don't get me wrong, a DJ didn't just pop up in the street in the midst of a riot one Wednesday night, but he was there on Friday and Saturday nights doing his stuff working hard to ease our tensions and emotions lifting our spirits so that we could relax and begin a new week, face new challenges and again meet the world head on. Thank God, (or whoever is there) , for giving us 4 to the floor and DISCO. With love and respect to everyone, please stay safe and stay healthy, but above all make music, listen to music and DANCE TO DISCO ! ! ! ! CliveakaSpyda UK

I agree with Kevin below, if you did not experience Disco, you just don't know the excitement and shouldn't comment. Disco was an explosion that lasted a decade. I remember getting into Studio 54 when I was 16 and kept going for years. Some of the performers on this track performed there so it brings back great memories especially Candi Staton, Change and Stargard. That high energy beat still thrills today! Great memories. I’m 21 and Disco is my favorite genre of all time. My friends all either listen to rap or hard Rock, but me? No I listen to the good stuff. To Disco! Y’all had the beat style with the groovy bass and the bell bottoms and open collar shirts and everyone clubbing everywhere wearing the best clothing styles that ever existed. And now I’m growing up in whatever crap this age is. But I’m proud to say I do my part to live and project Disco today. I don’t even care if someone in here makes fun of me but I got and wear my velvet bell bottom slacks with my pastel floral shirts and gold jewelry. Nothing feels better to me!

1978-1980 - Spinning records for a roller rink in SoCal. Adult night was always at capacity and the people were beautiful. They would skate their asses off and afterward, we'd all go to Black Angus to keep the party going. Times were different... they would let us skate dance on the dance floor. It was an amazing time to live through... and at 17, I was king of the world. I'm still waiting for a revival of both disco & roller skating.

I think disco never goes out of style every time I listen to any classic, mix or hits any disco sound gets me up and going, and makes me go back to the days too so I think its really cool we got DJ's with lots of talent also I want to say hello to my girl Juliana who I cant stop thinking about her it was love at first sight, disco brings back all that and more thanks to all DJ's specially disco DJ's.

I grew into adulthood (late 20s early 30s) during this time and it brings back some wonderful fantastic memories of being young and on the dance floor. I was not a professional teacher but danced well enough to have 5 beautiful ladies ask me out multiple nights to teach them some disco and I didn't have to pay for dinner or drinks. Yes I wore Angel Flight pants and the obligatory golden neck chain or two... The disco era was special because the artists and bands that played the music were famous everywhere but we, as dancers, were famous locally - we were the 'dancing stars' and it was truly uplifting and I miss it. Disco forever!

The 70's era.. Gave us as black people FREEDOM and LIFE! Now it feels like we're just... Existing.. I wasn't alive then, but my spirit is old and yearns for the freedom and vibe of the 70's to return.. The closest we came to the 70's was on November 4th 2008 and again on November 6th 2012..
