@@quedog10pop To be honest the Pormido is in our work car, so its always locked up at night and i havent needed the dash cam features yet!. However i think the event monitor is to see the recordings that are triggered by the g sensor.

I just installed my PR996 3 days ago and I love it. I really like the fact that I can angle the mirror away from my eyes at night and still get a good rear view despite bright headlights that are close, and my field of view is even better than it was when I was using a panoramic optical mirror.

I really like that as well. I've used this for a few days of work now and i didn't realise how much i was missing the centre rear view mirror when its loaded up with stock. Once i have had a week or two of use i might do another review if anything else pops up that's useful or turns out to be a pain.

This is a clip on. I like the clip setup, they do not vibrate and they are easily mounted. The full replacement versions seen to be a bit scarce.

Hi there, you dont need a reverse light connection. but you can set one up to focus the mirror differently for reversing. However i just leave it on the normal view.

Yes, there is a button that turns the screen off on the bottom. It instantly switches between mirror and screen.

With this particular version, Pormido say in the instructions to use the Mini USB hardwire kit. amzn.to/2QqQgQZ They are cheap enough, but not ideal. Some of the mirrors do have internal batteries which is what threw me with this one. Then again the versions with internal batteries are smaller and cost more. The thing i dont like about the hardwire kits is you would need to remember to turn the mirror screen off when you leave the car unless you wanted it to work as an additional deterrent. At night thieves would easily see they are being recorded.

Hardwire kits however do provide an extra level of protection from over discharging your 12V battery with low voltage shutoff if your power port does not turn off with the ignition. I installed one with mine even though I connected it to a switched supply just to clean things up and free up the power port for other things.

@@IsraelSuperguide That is why they recommend that device, it will shut the mirror off if the battery gets low. The mirror doesnt use much power at all if the screen is asleep, but its better to be safe.

Yes, the red wire which you might be able to see in the unboxing section needs to be connected to a reverse wire. We have never bother we them on the car installs, but on the van as the camera is like 2.5m from the ground it needed that adjustability. Luckily the wire was already in the roof from the original reverse camera.

Thanks for the review! Surfing through the amazon list of all the different mirrors and it’s hard to get a sense of how it will be to live daily with the ui and this one looks great! I have 5% on every window so this will be a must for night time!

Hey man, it does take a few minutes to adjust to these. The factory fitted one i drove in the Escalade, didn't feel any different to a normal mirror, but these aftermarket ones, have a wider field of view. So when you look in your mirror you see way more than you would normally. Like a car that is 1 metre behind you car and in the lane next to you, you can see its front. That is strange, because normally you wouldn't really see much of that car at all in the rear view. But again it doesn't take long to adapt. We have 3 of these mirrors now, and all i will say is you get what you pay for. The first one i got was a cheap one and the interface isn't as responsive and you also have to re-adjust the screen every time you start the car, where this Pormido just works nicely and is really set and forget.

It doesnt slide out like the smaller mirror cameras. However as the screen is so much bigger you dont need to slide it out.

You can get some of the small ones as replacements for specific vehicles, but i think the issue arrises with the size of the pad and how it mounts to the screen. They just make a universal one that replaced the factory mirror. I was really against the clip on, but you cant tell its clipped on from inside the car. You soon forget the original mirror is behind it.

I was looking for the same until you realize how bad the ones with mounts are. I’ll be buying a cheap $10 autozone mirror and modifying it to have this permanently attached rather than clip it to a mirror

If you get a chance, try and check one out in person. The way they "clip" which are really rubber straps is very strong. The mirror screen will never move on the original mirror. It is tight, and the straps on these pormidos are adjustable, so you should be covered no matter what car you fit them too.

Zero To 60 yeah but an on star/auto dim mirror on a gm car is so thick they almost touch the windshield, theirs no way it would fit and it would fit better on a smaller one.

Wonderful video it helped me alot on determining what I am going to purchase. What is the difference between the 990 & 996 Models? I am going to install this in my motorhome and I will need a second rear cable to use as an extension. Can additional rear cables be purchased? If so any idea on the cost of the item?

Hi Michael, The main difference between the 990 and 996 is the size of the screen. The 996 is a rectangular 12" screen, which does give a considerably larger viewing area than the 9.88" screens. Pormido do offer a 49ft cable. From memory they are around $30AUD. I will get a link later once get back to my pc. I remember looking in to fitting one to a semi trailer and was do-able. You can also make patch cables. But the pre-made cable would be the way to go if its long enough. This has been in the work van for 7 weeks now and its so much better to drive with, i couldn't believe how much i use the wider field of view, compared to what see through a traditional mirror. Not mention you can actually see out the back when the van is full. Let us know if you have any other questions.

996 uses SONY lens for both front and Back with higher definition images, the extention cable is 10 Meters Long which should be enough for your motorhome.
