MG42 wad works well for BB and is a straight wall hull wad but about 1.04Oz is all the BB shot that will fit. You CAN use the MG42 in taper wall hulls as well but mica wad slick is a must.

If using an overshot card make sure it is .02 inch thick. I got some new overshot cards which are .04 inch thick and it raises the hull too much and crushes the hull. I am able to split the overshot card in half and use them.

If you 'crush' the wad in the reloader on a flat base, before loading, it expands the base wad; so stopping powder creep. We can still use 8bores over here for wildfowl, so I use this method for my 3-1/2" steel cases which have a larger internal diameter: i think it is dangerous to place a card wad underneath as some suggest as it could possibly be left in the barrel. By the way the poly-wads are made from under laminate insulation cut with a sharpened steel tube. ALSO I can't find any information on loading Herco(which we used to load fantastic 1-5/8oz lead 5s years ago) other than 26grns with 1oz steel ?

I am now “crushing” the wad to prevent creep as you described. I watched many use pliers to flare out the bottom, but don’t believe it is very uniform. I can check my data for herco loads. I have not used that powder.

I'd go with a tapered hull instead of "fixing" the wad mismatch with paper towel. You don't correct the pressure loss with this, only the powder creep. Also, I always avoid overshot cards unless absolutely necessary.

Not enough room in a tapered hull. I now have a different way to prevent powder creep.

use wax paper instead of a paper towel it resists burning better than paper...avoid an over shot wad your patterns will improve you can use a cheerio it will not have any adverse effect on the patterns...glue the felt under the powder section of your wad and if you shoot a browning or winchester with back bored barrel use the precision reloading wad and an improved modified choke...also if you can find the old federal gold metal target hulls the ones that have a brass head, they have a higher base wad it will help you with your stack height.What is your velocity.

It’s amazing how so many people use the term close enough when reloading ammo. Who the hell is wade russ?

Do you have to adjust your crimp settings on the press for different hulls?
@Duckslayer1096 Жыл бұрын
Not for every hull. It depends how it crimps. I finally figured out how to get ride of the tiny hole in the center. Best advice is to check owners manual for adjustment. I should do a video on it also.

Have you tried using this load for large ducks?

@@clks1165 If you use BB for ducks I would think it would work. I use 4’s or 5’s for ducks. Worked great on the geese.
