the aventurine and ratio quest is called double indemnity which has some crazy symbolism i think cause its the name of a movie where a woman double crosses her lover or something. would have to recheck but yeah edit: there is an INCREDIBLY good dissection of the movie and its parallels to the scene in the quest in the replies they explain it far better than i ever could ⬇️⬇️

yep! double indemnity is about two lovers plotting to kill the wife's husband for insurance (hence the name), all the while acting like they don't know each other/aren't close. this puts ratio and aventurine into the roles of the conspirators (walter neff and phyllis dietrichson respectively) and the person they have to fool being sunday (mr. dietrichson) - they have to sell the act that they hate each other so ratio's "betrayal" seems believable to sunday symbolism between double indemnity and aventurine/ratio actually runs…quite deep. just to fire through the ones off the most significant ones: • the biggest and most obvious one is the final victor light cone being a direct reference to phyllis and neff's final scene together - from the character parallels to the composition (+ ratio gets a new outfit to match neff), etc etc. even the amount of gunshots is the same as the amount of blanks in the light cone (three). and between the two scenes, one starts a relationship (aventurine and ratio) and one ends a relationship (phyllis and neff, as phyllis gets shot twice) • the main character parallels, like i said, are neff = ratio and phyllis = phyllis, though both ratio and aventurine take from BOTH leads, as aventurine is the one who actually cooked up the scheme (which is what neff does in the movie) and ratio is the accomplice (phyllis' role). there are other similarities like neff making a gambling metaphor that sounds incredibly like aventurine (which, by the way, in the book the movie is based on the same metaphor goes on for TWO WHOLE PARAGRAPHS), phyllis being a nurse and ratio being a medical doctor, and a bunch more (so much more that if i were to list them all here we would be here forever) • the movie deals with a lot of double/crossings between… almost ALL the characters in one way or another (one reason as to why it's considered a quintessential film noir) and you can say the same thing for the sunday mansion mission, what with sunday sentencing aventurine to death, ratio's "betrayal", and aventurine slipping away with his cornerstone in the bag of gift money w/o sunday knowing • there are a couple of other scenes in the movie that have parallels to the game (i.e the interrogation scenes between sunday-aventurine and when ratio and sunday talk vs the scene where phyllis gets questioned by the insurance company and (prior to that), the scene where neff gets mr. dietrichson to sign the policy with the double indemnity clause) • not only do ratio-aventurine have parallels between neff-phyllis, they even share similarities to neff and barton keyes (intimate friends and co-workers, trust in one another, etc.) • honestly there is so much you have to wonder how they got away with it. it's kind of insane also fun fact, since double indemnity was made around the time when the hays code was in place (censorship under the guise of making films safe for the general audience), they had to get around the guidelines by rewriting dialogue laced with subtext (and changing the ending from the book)… now doesn't that sound slightly familiar sorry for coming in with this by the way i see double indemnity mentioned in relation two ratio and aven and my brain immediately latches onto it and starts infodumping (kind of unrelated? but it's so interesting to me how the two explicit romance movie refs for the two (this and spellbound) put ratio and aventurine into the roles of both the male AND female leads… i think about that a lot)

Here are a few other things I noticed: While playing as Aventurine in the 2.1 quest, he meets one of the bloodhound members (I believe it was Woolsy), and in his internal monologue he calls him a hunk. Also during that same quest, Acheron and Welt sneak into the dewlight pavilion where they see Aventurine's shoe prints and Welt notes that they're "flamboyant". Sparkle seems to have some weird obsession with getting BS's attention, specifically in the companion quest in 2.0. Siobhan calls March a "pretty lady" and March gets excited. There sre more but I don't feel like typing it out.

i want to add miinee 🤚🤚 i do think Boothill is a metaphor for a trans person. The fact that he changes his name, got a whole new body, that his clothing is pretty revelant (a style that a lot of lgbt ppl wear to express themselves), that his poses are either feminines or overly masculine (a thing i do myself as a trans men, either i have feminine stances or overly masculine ones, i really like to menspread sometimes lol) and that in his lightcone, the doctor said to him "welcome to this world, once again" it quite litteraly express the fact that he came back as a changed person. Everything i said does relate to his trauma but it can also mean he's trans at the same time. It's only suppositions abt what i saw amd read but i really like this idea.

I think otherwise, from what i've known boothill acts that way due to his mechanized body limiting him to feel anything, he uses poses to make him feel himself alive and it is the only way to make him feel himself more human, even in a new body. your perception is plausible about him dont get me wrong, but I just think that they way he acts is just for him to humanized himself while taking the path of hunt.

A lady wearing a black veil invited me to dance. It was my first dance, and it was an unforgettable experience. Acheron: It's a shame that I forgot to ask her for her name.
