Bryant Park is the busiest park in the world, but few visitors know about the trap door, the secret escape hatch from an underground room, or the ruins from the 1800's. Here's a list of my top 12 secrets of Bryant Park.
If you're interested in taking a free tour of Bryant Park and learning even more, I highly recommend it:
bryantpark.org/...
Also, the free movie I referred to in the library at 4:24 talks a lot about the history of the park, the old reservoir, and the library. It's really interesting.
If you liked this video, be sure to check out my 12 hidden secrets in New York playlist, with secrets from Times Square and Central Park: • 12 HIDDEN SECRETS in C...
12 Secrets in Bryant Park:
1: It used to be a cemetery
2. The New York Public Library Stacks are directly below the park lawn and contain 37 miles of bookshelves. Check out Gothamist's video about the stacks here: www.dailymotion...
3. Escape hatch from the stacks
4. The trap door by the carousel
5. Every activity and event is free
6. Free Wifi throughout the park
7. Power outlets are all over the place
8. Free, clean, amazing public restroom, consistently rated one of the best bathrooms in New York
9. The change thrown into the fountain adds up to about $4000 per year
10. London Plane trees were Robert Moses' favorite tree (he basically created the NYC Parks Department) and so he made the leaf of the London Plane tree into the logo for the parks department
11. Croton Reservoir foundation ruins
12. Rose Reading Room

Thanks for your videos of New York. I first visited NY in 2004 and I stayed for 50 days. My second visit was in 2008 and I stayed for 40 days. I have been saving up to go back to NYC. It’s taking me a while to save because I want to stay in NY for 90 days. I truly believe I was a New Yorker in a past life. For the meantime I watch your videos of NY and it makes waiting more bearable.

For New Yorkers it might sound a tad bit cringeworthy when a foreigner says "I wanna go to NYC!" But for someone who lives in the opposite part of the world, going to NYC was really an altering sensation for me. There was something about the city that was so lively and it instilled certain kind of energy in me. I went there twice and I still ache to return. Maybe next time, with this channel's videos as my guide.

New Yorkers have a big ego - we think this is the best city in the world. So we totally understand when people say they want to visit. "Of course you would. New York is the BEST!" I totally agree that it has its own energy and it gets into you when you're here. It's hard to explain, but you feel it. Happy to share tips and recommendations when you start planning your next trip! -Brian

Thanks for sharing! When I lived on the Upper East Side and worked in Manhattan in the early 1970s Bryant Park wasn't anything like this and we all headed to gorgeous Central Park which still is, but I would love to go to Bryant Park now and eat at that beautiful restaurant! The city has done a phenomenal job restoring the Library and the park, fantastic job! Reminds me now of the beautiful parks in Paris with flower gardens, trees, a fountain and those French cafe tables and chairs as well as umbrella tables! If I lived in NYC again, I would be hanging out at Bryant Park all the time! On my bucket list now! Marvelous job!

One secret of Bryant Park is that management provides no indoor shelter for the park staff except for a tiny cramped house, and treat the employees horribly, a fact that is hidden behind all the free events, movies, lawn, rink etc.

I knew about the library being underground, the free events, and the bathroom. The rest I had no idea and will check those things out the next time I am at the park. If you walk past the statue that's right by the library in the park, you can also see all the way down 42nd Street which is kind of neat as well. I have never been inside the library yet, but I plan on visiting. They were closed the times I have been in that area. Great video.

Well, I'm not recognized by the park authority as an official entity--- in fact, these days I cant even step into the park for more than a couple of minutes at a time without getting harassed by the park security(they hate my guts). Anyhow, just look my name up on Google, there are plenty of articles about me in the city news papers. All the best, D.

@PerfectLittlePlanet

Yes. There are fewer events because of Covid, but Bryant Park's mission is to provide free events to the public, so they won't start charging for anything.

There are places in Central Park you can get away with it, but Bryant Park is so small with so many people around, it'd be difficult since there's no smoking allowed in public parks. -Brian

Trump has nothing to do with the skating rink in Bryant Park. The entire winter village is sponsored by Bank of America every year. He _rebuilt_ Wollman Rink in Central Park back in the 80s when the concrete buckled 30 years after it was originally built in 1950. -Brian
