Hogan’s Heroes was very loosely based on the early 50’s movie Stalag 17. Suggested viewing.

The Great Escape was also an influence, but not as much as Stalag 17.

I think I remember that the comic book about Hogan's Heroes did a tour of the underground and showed men sitting with towels in the steam room. Plus the usual counterfeit money room with printer, and a Taylor making German suits.

A bit of trivia: Because both Hogan's Heros and Gilligan's Island were shot at the same CBS studios, practically built just a few feet away from each other, there is a film flub in Gilligan's Island were the Skippers and Gilligan can be seen at the lagoon and just barely over the top of the palm trees, the top of a water tower from the Hogan's Heros set can be seen. No fooling 😊

Bob, wasn't it Bob Crane that played the drum in the opening theme song of Hogan's Heroes? Seems like the studio musician drummer was late for the recording session and Bob Crane played the drums.

For many years Robert Clary played "Robert leClare" on soap Days of Our Lives as a singer and best friend to character Doug Williams, played by the late Bill Hayes. Nita Talbot, who played wiley Marya Parmanova is alive and 94 years old as of 2024.

It was a funny show. I've heard some folks did find it offensive. NBC was originally offered the show. But they thought it'd be hard to top the pilot. Bing Crosby's company produced it. If I recall correctly, there was another movie featuring members of the cast. Ivan Dixon's departure in the final season never got addressed. Instead, another African American soldier joined the cast. My theory is that Ivan's character got transferred. But the gang arranged for his escape once gone from Stalag 13. Klink's record of no escapes kept him in command. I first saw Richard Dawson on Match Game. He and Larry Hovis would also be cast members of Laugh-In.

I have probably watched each episode at least 30 times, a long with the Andy Griffith show. I believe they used the set on an episode of mission impossible

Actually, Werner Klemperer was not Jewish. His father Otto Klemperer was born Jewish, but converted to Catholicism, and later converted back to Judaism. Werner's mother was Lutheran.

I have been waiting for someone to make that mistake and it just happened to be my brother Bob Snap; I had to chuckle when I heard it. It's the improper term, "True Facts ". Point being, Have you ever heard of a FALSE FACT? God bless you. I'll be praying for you Thanks for saying those beautiful words!
