I have a Bombay he was rescued from the side of the road when he was 5 weeks old. When he got a bit older I knew he wasn’t a typical cat because he was not like any cat I have ever had. He acts more like a dog, has a lot of energy, has this most beautiful silky and shiny black coat and hardly sheds. The shape of his face is different too than most cats. He is my little Bear and he is 9 months now.

My Bombay is a rescue cat named Carina and yeah, she's a pretty darn unique little creature. Demands lots of lap time, loves being brushed and plays with our other cats. She was found abandoned with a litter of kittens at about one year of age, but she's remarkably easy going in spite of her rough start in life.

We picked up our at the shelter. Like you, I knew right away something was different with this cat. I suddenly started getting KZbin videos in my feed a couple weeks after we got her, and that's when I knew she was part Bombay. Every video I have watched now she ticks all the boxes. Such an amazing cat!

My Baby Bombay just turned 1 year old. He is everything you described. I rescued him when the maintenance men found him drowning in a puddle in the rain by a dumpster behind the courthouse. They immediately brought him to me. Vet said he was no more than 2.5 weeks old. He was so sick and hardly had a voice to cry. He was starving. He weighed 8 oz. His eyes were opened by the Vet with some salve and drops. I made sure it was my face he saw first. Judge even allowed me to bring him to my office a several months so I could bottle feed him. I didn't know I needed him more than he needed me! I consider him a gift from God! My life has been so blessed with him! I love my precious Onyx Theodore more than I ever thought possible. He weighed 10 lbs on his 1st birthday! People call them mini black panthers, but I call him my little jaguar! He really is the most beautiful, playful, talkative, petite baby ever. His eyes are copper colored with shards of green and his coat is luxuriously silky! He's all boy but much smaller than our other cats! His best friend is a dark gray Tabbie who he wins shuffles over all the time! He's so happy and that makes me even happier! I love my Bombay, Onyx, with all of my heart!

I've had a lot of cats in my life, and they're all unique, but when I adopted a rescue Bombay, his primary behavior traits were not like my others'. Just right off your list. Very affectionate, vocal, smart, loves high places, and a great host for visitors. I used COVID sequestration to start training. He is very treat-oriented, and gets it quickly, but resists some things (like leash walking & nail trimming). When he releases some of his stubbornness (counter-surfing), it's like a switch was thrown, so consistency is critical. He is a favorite at my Vet's because of his charm. Quick and always underfoot, he sometimes gets stepped on, but accepts apologies readily. I'm getting dance lessons from my cat 🤣

I lost my best friend Nugget November 2022. He was my Snuggety Buddy! He was probably not a pure breed, I found him and three siblings (one had been killed by the belt) under the hood of a Mercury Sable. He really tore me up when I grabbed him!! I thought he was attacking me with razor blades and ice picks! When I got him home that afternoon it only took a few hours to tame him. A co-worker of mine (we are both mechanics) took his long fur brother and his sister (which was a smaller version of Nugget). Nugget was always a big cat--he weighed about 28 pounds most of his adult life. He was shiny black, short fur, yellow eyes, black paw pads, black gums, and a short tail (we never mentioned his tail in front of him because it embarassed him). He would sit calmly in my lap and put his paw in my hand when it was time for a claw trim! He always had to be near me, when it was time for me to be home from work he would be waiting at the door and when I walked in he always greeted me with MEOW!! I would meow back and he would keep talking until I stopped--he always got the last word! I got divorced and had to move out June 2022 and he came with me. Slowly he began losing weight until he was down to about 7 pounds. I knew he probably had kidney failure and I couldn't afford treatments. The day before he died he came to me and meowed and looked at me with those big soulful eyes so I picked him up and snuggled him for quite some time. I took lots of selfies with him and he seemed very happy. He always seemed to smile when I touched him and he was sure smiling that last morning! When I got home late that night I found him streched out on the floor in front of the heater. I immediately knew he was gone, I sobbed and held him all night long. I miss him so much! He was a wonderful companion for 14 years. I hope I gave him as much joy as he gave me.

However, she seems to be a Bombay cat as she has anoticeably tiny head and face, much smaller than any other cat I have owned. Moreover she has black underpaws and even black whiskers. She has made my senior years an absolute delight and given my health a real boost. I can rest assured that should anything happen to me my son will be happy to take her. I've got a Bombay. Missy was basically a stray that adopted our Springer Spaniel. He became her buddy, her champion and her "man." She moved in and immediately declared herself Boss of the House. I didn't even know what a Bombay was until one day by a fluke, after an iphone update, I was going through pictures on my phone and I saw that my phone had labeled her as a Bombay cat. So I started researching the breed characteristics of Bombays and Missy ticks every single box. She's not just a friendly, if bossy, pretty little black cat. She's a genuine Bombay. A pain in the butt at times, but a nice, easygoing, VERY chatty cat with a LARGE personality.

I have a short hair black cat that I believe is a Bombay. He was a stray/feral just a few months ago. It took some trickery to trap him but after getting him neutered and vaccinated I turned him loose but he stayed. He is the smartest and most social and attention demanding cat I have ever had. Everything about him screams Bombay. He is now 12 pounds and muscular with a sleek and shiny coat and the greenest eyes ever. Everything about him other than those bright green eyes is black including his paw pads. But the most intriguing thing that makes me believe he's of the Bombay strain is he "chatters". I have read that only the Burmese chatters. I can hear the chatter and see his jowls vibrating in and out as he does it; normally when preparing a friendly pounce on my female bulls-eye tabby who outweighs him. He has attached to me but is welcoming of others. Of course I groom him daily including cleaning his ears which he enjoys and he also knows a treat is coming at the end of the cleaning process. I have been a cat breeder in the past (silver and golden shade Persians) and have inherited others and taken in many strays over the years but "Blackie" is the best ever!!!

Edit: "Lilly" was apprehended running around parked vehicles at a gas station gonna be 5 yrs ago November...she was extremely tiny & 4 wks old!!! Her willingness to remain in my jacket pocket once I scooped her up speaks volumes!!! She hit the floor running once I got home, but remained laser focused on where I was. She "hung out" in my lap, curled up in my clothes, never far from me; to this day I think she was "screening" the ppl at the gas pumps that night...a few tried to catch her, but she ran to me & jumped into my hands!!! She was fur-covered bones... It took 3 YEARS of giving her whatever she wanted to eat, just to get her over the 3 lb. mark- the baseline to be safely spayed... She never went into heat & I attribute all of it to severe malnutrition at an extremely young age. Only after being spayed, did her appetite improve, but it took another 2 years to break the 7 lb window. She has a very petite frame & tiny paws. It wasn't until I took her in to be spayed, that the vets exclaimed with abject certainty, "SHE'S a Bombay!!!" I had to look it up!!! She tolerates all the other kitties here, but opts for my bedroom & solitude 90% of the time... avoids all other ppl, so I suspect she had some pretty bad experiences before she ran to me. I’ve been a Bombay-mix (rescue) owner for many years. The are very vocal but can be trained. I play with mine 15 min twice a day to get the energy out and feed her before I go to bed. She’ll sleep when I sleep that way. They can be trained to sit or high five and training fits their curious nature and need for attention. They will meow if they’re bored or not getting enough attention. Mine comes when she’s called, goes in her carrier on command and follows me everywhere. Also, never reward their talking and give them treats or attention when they’re quiet. Ignore the meowing completely. I don’t put her food down until she’s sitting quietly (at the beginning I put it down when she was sleeping). Never ever meow back at them or allow others to do so…this is hard because they’re so cute! I finally had to lay down the law with visitors by threatening to get both cat and human with the spray bottle. It worked too…I sprayed the humans a few times and they stopped, gradually she stopped too. Ah peace.

My Bombay is a total lover, and he senses when I am petting one of my other cats, he struts right over and cuts in, so I pet him instead. He loves to play with the other cats but gets very jealous over them getting attention. He has to be an indoor cat because I live on an emergency route and the speed limit is fast. So, he is a heavy boy. I have lost enough cats to that road that all my cats are indoor unless I am out there with them, and they follow me like trained dogs. I wouldn't have any other cat than a Bombay to snuggle with.

Ok this might seem out there and a little bizarre. Sidebar: I am not big on reincarnation. I lost a close friend and a few months after their passing a Bombay just showed up and parked himself at my sliding glass door looking in. The mysterious gaze got me eventually. - Ignored him for a week and he'd return to visit through the door so obviously long story longer he made his way in. Trip to vet, neutering, and he adjusted to other two cats, or I should say they eventually adjusted to his bold personality. Anyway, back to the friend passing. They knew I had some rescue kitties for a while and last thing they had said to me is take care of them so when this cat showed up a short time later with its focused gaze and persistence at being adopted, I named him after the passed-on friend. The cat has been a very close companion ever since.

Yes my black cat is the same. He doesn't meow hardly at all and when he does it's more of a squeak. I got him from the pound as a kitten. He's 15 years now. Didn't know he was a bombay until I researched black cat breeds. Because when he grew he was very muscular and heavy and shiny and not a spot of white on him. Even his paws are black. Then I found the bombay breed. He fits all attributes except doesn't like being nursed and is very frightened of strangers. With me tho he lays near me and wants me to stroke him and groom him and rub his tummy. He will also put his paw in my hand gently. I love him. His nature really is beautiful and kind.😊

How do you know if it’s a Bombay vs a regular black cat? We rescued a black cat 2 years ago and he is just the best. He is the best big brother my new kitten could have. We call him Mau, because he’s an Egyptian cat god 😊.

I also have a Bombay.bombay to the all black whiskers and footpads...she looks petite and probably weighs in about 5pounds.im a veteran and was looking for something to help maintain sanity during The quarantine. And one day I asked this lady in my neighborhood who's kittens were running around and if any of them were available.and yes she brought out an all black kitten that had no problem riding home on the bike with me.that was 9months ago.shes a good cat talks alot.and minds also she taught me the game of fetch which we play pretty much everyday.only problem is when I have to go somewhere she'll wait by the front door.i don't know how lon g she'll wait .but it makes me feel like I abandoned her.thats the only part I hate.

I'm not sure my black cat, Inky, is a Bombay or not. Inky looks just like the cat in the video. He weighs 8.2 pounds which the vet thinks is a little on the thin side, but he's been that weight all the time I've had him. I adopted him 5 years ago from the MSPA. They don't give you much information about the cat except he's a black American shorthair and has feline aids. By watching the video, he may be a Bombay. Watching your video is like watching home movies. I was once told by a Siamese breeder that if you mate a non-Siamese cat with a dark pointed Siamese, the kittens will be black. I don't care he's my little house panther, and I love him to death.

I love my Bombay... But I always get confused on whether I should let him outside or not. Some sources say you shouldn't, while others (like this video) say you should...
