12 Month Review Shoei Glamster (with new smoke visor)

Got mine yesterday and I'm loving it! Had an AGV K5-s and by comparison the shoei is so much quitter it even bothered me a little in the beginning. It's a great helmet, specially in the retro line of helmets

That’s great. I wasn’t too sure about the black gloss but it’s grown on me and the visor makes it. I think the whole colour range is pretty good though and like the white if matched correctly. Thanks for watching 👍🏻👍🏻

just bought one in off-white, will instal a dark visor too. That will look good I think. Was hesitating at first with the AGV X3000 but the guys in my town in France told me it is too hot with the leather and too noisy so I went for the Shoei

Hey I enjoyed the video! Thanks so much for making it. Really tempted by this helmet. Btw there is a vent at the back afaik - I think it’s through the bottom of the liner though to keep things tidy. Cheers again!

There are two small holes in the rim of the helmet at the rear but that’s it. I would suggest trying it on at a store when you can as some struggle with fit but it’s a great all rounder albeit pricey 👍🏻 best of luck

looks great. seems hugely impractical. the lack of ratcheted detents when you raise the visor seems insane to me. so its only either fully open or fully closed? deal breaker.

I can’t remember now the stops but did think it needed a closer ‘stop’ near closing fully. Apologies, hope this helps. I sold it and don’t miss it although recognise the good points.

Great vid. How easy to put on the sun glasses? I saw the image of you putting the shades. I’ve tried some of the popular retro helmets but they are not easy to put the glasses on.

Pretty easy with right type of glasses but probably depends on head shape. These have pretty thin arms which work well but unfortunately probably a bit of trial and error? Hope that helps.

It's one of the most beautiful helmet ever built for a scrambler/modern classic but in a heavy rain condition the front vents cannot be closed so like other beautiful piece of engineering in the world, it's just and only beautiful, not practical for a 365 heavy use unfortunately!

I never had a problem with vents leaking BUT I did have to keep removing and washing the pin lock visor to make it work all the time.

To be honest I’ve always shut the visor when not at stand still. I have a fear of a wasp/bee getting in the face area and not getting out 😂. If it’s warm and I’m local I change up to a half face.

Great review! Did you have an issue with opening of visor with installed pinlock? Pinlock touches the top sealing of the helmet and prevents opening…

It makes it a bit tougher and catches a little but not bad enough to stop any of the functionality.

In case anyone else reads this, I had the exact same problem. The pinlock seal would break every time I opened it. The solution is to turn the small nuts at the sides of Pinlock (when the pinlock is off!) BUT the instructions say to turn them the wrong way! I turned them the other way and backed it off a bit and now have a very good seal and it stays in place. It does however gum up a bit at the bottom but have been advised to really dry it out using a heater or airing cupboard etc. 👍🏻

Thanks for the vid😉 I have just sent back Bell Bullet as the size was in correct!! The guy at the shop has suggested the Shoei Glamster I think after watching your videos I'm convinced that the shoei is the way to go??? Now to get the dam size correct🤷‍♀️ I measure 56.5cm ???

If you are doing longer rides then I would recommend the Glamster. If short rides at low ish speeds and want maximum visor visibility then I would recommend the Bullitt. PLUS I’m the Bullitt, with visor up, your phone will recognise your face to unlock / pay for things etc. small but useful addition.

In terms of fit. I find I have to go a size up for Shoei which isn’t a problem with right shell size as you can always adjust the pads but worth trying on. Hope that helps!

Yes. There is a standard headset that fits this. I think you can search for this on the Shoei site. It’s a few years old but works well.

I'm from Canada and we never got the Shoei Glamster here, but I was in London last May for The Bike Shed London show and had the chance to go Urban Rider and see them. I forgot to test fit one but I wear a AGV K1 in a Medium Small which is about 57 to 58 cm head circumference so I might wing it and order a Medium Glamster.

For a 58 I would give them a call. My gut feel is that a large would be better especially if want to wear a balaclava underneath in winter

Got myself a Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 a few weeks ago and decided to upgrade my old Bell Qualifier helmet to a large white Glamster after watching MANY reviews (seriously, my YT algorithm is going to be throwing up Glamster reviews for the next few years I think LOL). Look and style is spot on, weight is fantastic, but really struggling with wind noise. I've got the chin guard installed, and standard cheek pads and inner liner, and it *seems* to fit quite snug, but there appears to be a channel formed where the cheek pad meets the neck roll and it draws wind right up there, behind the ears and into the speaker space. Going to go into the shop on the weekend to see if the thicker cheek pads and inner liner might help alleviate the issue. I mean, even with -29dB earplugs in it's still awfully loud and noticeable. It's a shame because it's an expensive helmet and I really like it otherwise, but it's really killing the ride for me.

That’s a shame. What about installing a speaker setup into the helmet? I also started to wear the Rare Bird face mask under the Bell Bullitt for the same reasons which helped.

@@BikesVansandThings I had a crack with using a fleece neck warmer - thankfully it's getting colder down here - and it worked to a point (that point being when it would eventually work its way out from under the helmet). I've got a thin balaclava and will give that a go as well this weekend and see if that does anything. Due to my stupid ears I can't have speakers in there because they press up against them and begin hurting pretty quickly. BUT I've just thought about getting some thin foam, cutting it to size and seeing if I can velcro it into the speaker cavity and see if that'll work.
