Agree with almost all of these. I only disagree with the first one: if this rule is so established, it's because it works better. But hey, anyone can do whatever they want
@sebastiank.84125 жыл бұрын
Sneka97 i once asked a tailor about it and she said the lower front of the jacket is in bad shape if you close the lowest bottom. I agree with that. Also when I see somebody closing the lowest bottom, I feel like they are wearing a suit for the first time
@Lassehansen35 жыл бұрын
Totally! The first rule should stay a rule, at least if it is a single breasted jacket. The jacket are actually cut with this rule in mind, which is why it looks wrong when people close both of them.

@@Lassehansen3 Unless it's a Hacking Jacket or a Hacking inspired Jacket, yes, the cut is made with the bottom button undone in mind.

I literally just wear whatever I want that I feel good in - dont need to follow to rules - fashion is self expression whether that be for comfort, to impress others or just prove a point - each to their own. Great video as always - always thorough and to the point:) Hope you can do a video covering specific brands again at some point (such as hauls etc..) commented a while back about covering carhartt although you explained you hadnt really heard of them but like the format of hauls anyway :)

Good video I never understood the no black and Navi rule and I’m glad people are no longer following it. The same metal color I kind of agree tough. A gold metal belt matched with a silver watch looks bad for a formal setting. Maybe for a causal setting it could work. Keep up the great work.

Regarding the "always leave the bottom button open" rule: men's suits and jacket are made and cut to be worn with the last button open, so if you decide to close it the fit will most likely be all wrong and look weird. Also, although you might choose to leave it to make a statement, most people will assume that you 1. don't know the rule 2. because you don't know the rule you don't wear suits too often (which may cause a bad impression if you're doing a job interview or something similar
@spyrosdedes31455 жыл бұрын
great examples overall but i believe that the button rule especially on suit jackets must be followed always because their construction and drape is based in the fact that you will have the 2nd button open ! Great video as always bro!
@willpoole75935 жыл бұрын
Hi Marcel, I always watch your videos and I’m neither in my teens or 20s or beyond! However, I like looking at all sorts of clothes and am secure enough to wear what I want! Granted, there are some pieces on your channel that are not for me, but that’s cool! Maybe because I’ve spent a great deal of time traveling in Europe and beyond, I think my aesthetic is quite varied. Do I adhere to “established” rules for dressing? No I do not! I may be considered traditional in my clothing because that’s what I’m most comfortable with. But at the same time, I still try to be a little fashion forward, from time to time. Your channel provides me opportunity to do just that! And that’s a good thing! Bravo to you! And the Ankari Floruss shoes are 🔥!

One thing I'd like to add, as long as somebody looks or feels good, it's okey. No body is really paying too much attention to details when it comes to style. Everyone looks it as a whole. if someone is deliberately going for slightly loose fit for his aesthetic and he looks good, that's okay as well. Fashion is personal end of the day.

Didn't know that the button rule comes from a fat king. Interesting but even though, I think I'll still follow it. Finally, the message behind your video is "Stay true to yourself and do what you want." The rules are made to be broken, even more in fashion. Thanks Marcel.

Marcel, is there any easy way to browse through your lookbook? I always find myself not sure what clothes to wear for the day in the morning but a pair of black jeans. It will be great to have all your lookbooks with filter by hand, and/or grow my own subset of style using you as a model. Just some ideas.

I have to disagree about the rule "dress for your body type". While I agree that both style is subjective and you should wear what you feel good in, some things just look "off" if you have a certain bodytype. For example, I think if you have really muscular/big legs (both thighs and calves) and you decide to wear chelsea boots and skinny jeans, it makes you look funny - sort of like a leprechaun lol. Same goes for scrawny guys wearing oversized clothing or short sleeve shirts - i think these are mostly for bigger guys. Either way, I agree that some of those rules are plain stupid!

Navy Blue and Black is fine, if you match the right shade and fabric texture. A polyester office suit in navy with black shirt will look absolutely disgusting. As for rings. again, it's a skill and having a good taste is what matters most. If you select pieces that match, you will look great with ring on every finger, but if you put bunch of random designs with different finish, shade or different color stones, you will look like confused and trying too hard to be cool. Kind of common sense and just part of personality. Some people just can't pull it off no matter how good the accessories are. Nonetheless - It's a real skill to match large number of accessories together, hence why I prefer to buy sets from one designer, like M. Cohen Designs, so the color, metal type, textures and design style matches throughout the whole set.

Because it's a terrible look. Makes the suit looks boxy

@@jlc5271 Then what's it doing on this list? Also, you don't get to call someone out because you don't think it's a good look, that's called being a dick. I agree, I think boxy is the right word, but I just don't think you should really ever make someone feel uncomfortable by criticising how they dress, especially if you're then going to make a video saying that you can button the bottom button after all.
