Since I've moved to Colorado, my social life has been busier and so my time to make content has to find a new balance. I want to balance stuff that my Patronage will find useful, and also want to post material that I think is useful for the banjo community at large, even if it seems inaccessible to beginners, like this video on 12 Note Single String.
The thing is, I want my banjo theory content to be systematic, standardized, and broken down into bite sized fundamentals that anyone can understand.
But in order for me to love it, I have to show how it's applied in my life. And unfortunately, some of the stuff that I'm into isn't exactly Cripple Creek, and this alienates my content from a lot of people. So here we have the single string fundamentals that I've been into since I moved to Colorado. The first play along is already created and will be released shortly.
The other thing that I should mention is that videos like this, and the play alongs take lots of time to make and I feel bad for not uploading more regularly, but at the same time I want to put effort into videos that will outlast me knowing that someone out there will find this content and it will click for them, resulting in, banjo ascension.
So the other balance that I need to find is putting lots of effort into videos like these, and also videos that don't need so much effort, like shorts, IE Wood Cutter's Reel and My Grandfathers Clock so I have regular tabs going out to my people.
Anyway thanks for reading, I love you all and am certainly keeping you in mind. I want to keep creating useful high quality content that showcases how I think the banjo should be played.
Cheers,
Rick

Ricky, you keep showing this old banjo geezer so much more than I ever realized is possible. Thanks for such a great lesson.

That is an eye opener and explained in a way that is approachable and not totally intimidating. Not that it won't be hard to accomplish...but it makes sense now.

Dude, this is just amazing! Breaking things down to individual steps is a great aid to learning, and you do it here in a way I've never seen before! I'm forwarding this to a couple of music teachers right now who I think will appreciate your approach. Also gonna look through your vids myself to see what other gems I can find!!

Nice analysis. 6 months' practice material there. Just listened to your Picky Fingers. WAY more interesting than Game of Thrones.

I don’t get the “12 notes”. I think I understand 121 12321 1234321 123454321 progression. G through D in G major. I count either five unique notes or 24 separate but not unique notes. I love your exercises. I agree your Picky Figures interview caused me to stop scrolling past your posts. I’m a very button-down 70 year old personality. Keep up the good work.

The original concept of the 5th string is that it is a drone string tuned to the root note. It can be used at most any time without fretting is the idea.
