Flexible release is actually very real. Sometimes a player will release the ball at the highest point of his jump, sometimes on the way down, sometimes without getting the full extension of the arm... Which all depends on the range of the shot, the contest of the shot, etc. So that means Klay Thompson is pretty good at making shots with big variations in his shooting technique.
