Here are 12 Smashing Pumpkins songs and riffs. I did this one before a few years ago and it was one of the first videos I did that really blew up and got over 100k views. It kinda sucked but hopefully this one sucks a little bit less!

What I love about the Smashing Pumpkins is that you can literally hear all of Billy Corgan's influences, from The Cure to MBV to Melvins. Amazing stuff.

I have the squier version that’s h/s. My only complaint is that it is horribly heavy compared to the other guitars I have.

Great stuff! I like to play Pumpkins' riffs when testing out Fuzz pedals. Do you have any faves for Billy's and/or James' tones? You certainly nailed some of them in this video, bravo! "Tristessa" is my favourite to play, with "Cherub Rock", "1979", and "The Chimera" from "Oceania" close runners-up. Oceania is a really underrated album. I ended up using a Green Carrot "Pumpkin Pi" which is a 2-in-1 Muff pedal. You get the IC (or "Op-Amp" - same thing, just different terms) '78 circuit famously used by Billy on Siamese Dream and, quite probably, songs on the later albums, as well as the "Green Russian" muff circuit based on the old EHX Sovtek era Big Muffs. I think J. Mascis used one for a while, along with his famous Rams Head. For other Pumpkins tones I find the Keeley Son of Fuzz Head works well, and it covers most Fuzzface type tones as well.
@bloxsy_
@bloxsy_ 11 ай бұрын
You certainly know your fuzz pedals! To be honest, I used a Boss Katana and mixed some of the built in fuzz with a bit of distortion as I struggle to get a good fuzz tone. I'll check out the Pumpkin Pi pedal though as that sounds good.

@@bloxsy_ oh, it's like an addiction for me lol! I quit drinking and other things that aren't good for a body, and instead of blowing all my money and time on that nonsense, I spend both on cool guitar gear that I can always sell if I'm in need of funds - or trade for more cool stuff! I'm legit impressed with the sounds you coaxed from your Katana! I never really played one for long enough to pass judgement, I'm perhaps a bit old-fashioned in my love of valve amps and pedals. I do have an amp modeler+IR loader for "silent" stage or home use. Green Carrot are super legit, mate. They only build to order and accept no money up front, you only pay when your order is ready. Handwired, excellent workmanship, highly recommended. You have to email them directly, the main guy is named Andy. Lovely bloke to deal with. And the pedals aren't crazy expensive for such high quality! I think I paid $280AUS for my Pumpkin Pie. They also do a rad dual called the "Comfortably Plum". It's a Ram's Head muff+Coloursound Power Booster dual. No prizes for guessing who that one is named after Lol! Happy playing, all the best from Sydney, Australia.
@bloxsy_
@bloxsy_ 11 ай бұрын
To be fair, I'm looking to upgrade on the Katana, I may just be getting bored of it. But pedals are not a bad investment, you never know what these things might be worth when they go out of production. And yeah alcohol is money down the drain quite literally! All the best man
@mattgilbert7347
@mattgilbert7347 11 ай бұрын
@@bloxsy_ thanks mate. Really appreciate your kind words, and good luck with the upgrade. If you ever want any tips on a great sounding, affordable, tech-friendly valve amp+pedals (+guitar ofc!) Rig, please feel free to reach out. I have approximately 10 years experience in my own Indie band in the 90s, back then used two SG copies by VOX, Japanese made, a Fender Solid State 75w, a loaned Marshall JCM800 and a New Zealand made beast called a "Gerard 75". All valve, enough to take yr head off. VOX/Marshall hybrid times. No pedals just an analog reverb/delay mini-rack unit. Nowadays, with another 12 years experience with valve amps and pedals, I swear by modified Blues Junior Mk. IV with a speaker swap, VOX AC15C1 all-stock, and my two Laneys: UK Made VC30 2x10" with stock Jensens, and my Cub12R with a Vintage 30 instead of the crappy stock HH. I also have two heads..a Jet City JCA20H and HiWatt T20/10. I have a 112 Fender cab loaded with a Celestion V-Type. If you can find a Jet City JCA20H, JCA22H, JCA50H, or even the JC100H I *highly recommended them* Soldano designed, very well made, easy to mod, and were basically the blueprint for the SLO. I found my JCA20H for $280AUS *with a full set of spare valves* on KZbin. With the right cab, speaker, you can't do much better for the price. 20-22watts is a good amount of headroom for pedals. They do need a slight bit of modification but basically you'd end up with a Soldano SLO for a fraction of the cost. Laney VC30s are a great amp if you can find me used. Better built than their descendants, the Lionheart series, they have a kind of AC30-meets-Blackface thing going on. If you're in the UK they are easy to find, not bad in USA and Australia, elsewhere is tough. See Jack Fossett's video on the VC30 and why he thinks it's "the better AC30" (title of his vid). Check out Psionic Audio for a tech's perspectives on valve amps under $500USD and then another upload on best amps under $1000USD. Hope that helps a bit.. Good luck!!!!

@@bloxsy_ Pedals Keeley C4 or Wampler Ego (if you like compressors, I do because I play at low volume a lot) Wampler Tumnus or some sort of clean boost eg: Mooer Pure Boost (exact clone of Xotic RC Booster) MXR Phase 95 Boss BD-2 Big Muff Mooer Ensemble King Delay, Tremolo, Reverb to taste. Personally, I like Boss DD-5 & DD-7 for simple digital delays, and a Maxon AD-9 Pro for analog delay magic. Tremolo is a Keeley Dynatrem because it has regular Bias/Opto + Harmonic Tremolo and has built-in Reverb

Hi. It’s a decent guitar and I like it but if you’re planning on modding it the specs are a bit different to squier and fenders so it’s a bit harder to swap parts. I’m actually considering at this moment whether to stick with it or try a squier.
