Not only did Bewitched show Maureen McCormick before she became a Brady, it also showed Eric Scott before he became a Walton. I think Kym Karath (The Sound of Music) was in it, too.

Thanks, Bob. Unfortunately, the house and all of the houses and buildings on the Warner Brothers Ranch lot were demolished last year. The house that was used for outside shots had only a front and partial sides, with no finished interior. The house can be seen in many TV and movie scenes over the years.

Here's a Bewitched fact with an Andy Griffith Show angle. The actress who played Aunt Bee's friend Clara, was Hope Summers. Summers is one of three actresses who played the part of Samantha Stephens in the show's 8 year run. Elizabeth Montgomery, of course. Agnes Moorehead also played Samantha (when Samantha turned herself into her Mother, Endora.) Hope Summers played Samantha in 7th season's "Samantha's Old Man" (when Samantha turned herself into an old lady.) Summers' is credited as "Carolyn" to avoid viewer confusion. (Samantha called herself Carolyn while old.) As a TAGS fan, I think this is a pretty cool bit of trivia.

I actually heard Agnes Moorhead say in an interview that she dearly loved Dick York off set. Agnes herself was a very nice woman I understand. Far from Endora. Lol.

The reruns used to air in the mornings on one local station. The subject matter bothers me more now. Some disagree on who the witch of Endora conjured. One camp says it was the real prophet, Samuel. Others believe it was a demon impersonating him. This show had a great cast. Bernard Fox and Paul Lynde had done guest spots before returning as Dr. Bombay and Uncle Arthur, respectively. Not many shows now would recast a part after the actor died. But that happened here with the neighbor. This is one of many TV shows where characters worked in advertising. Others include: One Day at a Time, Bosom Buddies, Who's the Boss, and Full House. E! True Hollywood Story's episode on the series discussed ideas for addressing the recasting of the husband. One was to have Endora cast a spell changing his appearance. But that would have caused a wedge between her and Samantha. Ironically, Endora had previously changed his appearance a few times. But those changes were never permanent. Killing off the husband wouldn't have worked either. Their love was unique. Dick York had missed several episodes in the previous season. Those got rerun before the next. Dick Sargent shouldn't get total blame for the show's decline in ratings. Another problem was remaking earlier episodes. That's a sure sign that a show's been on the air too long. Ironically, his first episode was a remake of what some considered Dick York's finest moment. If the show had lasted longer, maybe we'd seen Samantha reentering the workforce.

Bewitched was the best of thise fantasy shows.I also liked the others.However,I Dream of Jeannie hasn't withstood the test of time for me. I tried to watch a rerun recently but it was just silly to me.

As a fan of Bewitched, which just celebrated it's 60th anniversary, I can say that not one of your "spookily fun unknown facts" was unknown to me. You got one very wrong. The Bewitched house sadly nolonger stands on the Columbia/Warner Bros ranch. In fact, nothing of the ranch exists anymore. WB has demolished all of it to build new studios. The Bewitched house was demolished on Friday, October 13th, 2023. Enjoy what you do. Thank you for it all!

Bob, I really do enjoy your shorts on classic TV programs. Keep up the good work in your posts. But I will say that in this one I don't believe that Dick Sargent's appearance had anything to do with the lower ratings. I am positive that it was due to the fact that Dick York had made Darren's character so much his own that Sergeant was not able to take it away from him and win audiences with his portrayal. No disrespect meant to Sergeant as he was a fine actor but he was not going to be able to redefine the character that York had so effectively portrayed.

My Favorite Martian was also other-worldly. It aired on CBS from 1963-66. It's a great show, too, starring Ray Walston and Bill Bixby. On Bewitched, Samantha's Aunt Clara (Marion Lorne) was the only relative of Samantha's who respected Darrin and was kind to him. Evidently Marion Lorne got along with the rest of the cast very well.

I don't know of any other Bewitched besides the original, other than that movie they made some years ago but that was very different from the show. But I've long thought Bewitched would be a good show to remake. If it were to be remade I think it should stay close to the original in format, though I think to give it a modern spin I'd have the world they live in actually be a matrix like computer game and the "witches" would actually be the program administrators whose "spells" are really just special permissions they've coded for themselves. Darrin would be a sentient AI within the game, and Samantha would be one of the real world programmers. Endora would be her mother in the real world, and she wouldn't like Samantha marrying Darrin because he's not actually a real person in the real world. Other than that, I'd basically keep the show the same. Maybe even keep it in the 60/70s, or move it forward just a bit to the 80s/90s.

David White's credit was eventually added to the opening of the show, in 1968 or 1969. Agnes Moorehead appeared on The Dick Cavett Show around 1972. Lester Maddox and Jim Brown also appeared on Dick Cavett, with racist Maddox storming off the show. I thought y'all might find that interesting.

OMG!! 😊 I can see a very tiny Maureen McCormick. Unsure which path is true regarding names assigned to Eliz Montgomery or Agnes Morehead. Why is bcz earlier KZbin bio stated originally Samantha character was named Cassandra. Elizabeth renamed character to Samantha. Next, ??? Endora? Same bio on YT tells how Elizabeth Montgomery found Agnes Morehead when shopping one day. Morehead eventually said yes. Her character had no name. Anges, they said, came up with name of Endora. Word Is Morehead was so angry with Dick York's medical dismissal she either never or it took a long time for her to warm up to Dick Sargeant. York's movie set filming injury was horrific. Dangerous scene when no parameters made Law. Awestern atop a rickety elevated Railroad Tracks... Something gave. 1 actor died. 2 injured, Dick York is one of 2 injured. No employment insurance or compensation paid for an eventual career ending disability...he was fired while in Hosp. We'd have to depend on their kids for fact checking. PS: Dick York did go to a Screen Actor's Nursing Home where he died. ** Thanks for your good work here. Ah, nostalgia... mid 1960s 1970s. God Bless you too. 😊

The story lines in many of the last few seasons were not good and some were repetitive. I also got tired of Serena.
