Just landed my first job as a self taught programmer. Funny enough it was with a company that rejected me in a final round. I emailed that company 4 months later telling them I loved the project and I really enjoyed their team. A week after that email I got a call and an offer letter in my email. It’s been a 6 year dream with 9 months of applying. Never give up, and don’t forget to email the companies back! They love the initiative.

Stef is the man and best teacher around! I went back to college for about a year to learn Python and the last 4 months I have been in his web stack online course. I am a musician and in a career change. I just landed my first web development job and it is because of Stefan, his online mentorship course, and his KZbin videos. I am 36 and have been studying programming the last year and a half. If I can do it, anyone can.

@@renardmccrary8395 thanks so much. There is so much information and you are right it is so overwhelming. I try to take it one line of code at a time, and if you are learn a few new things everyday, that is a major win. Stef has a great intro book to HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. That is well worth the money and similar to his online teaching platform. Might be something to check out. Good luck!!

@@TheAndreisukaru2 I will be managing websites for a Chicago Events Company, starting after the New Year. It will be more Front End work, but I cam currently learning PHP in Uncle Stef's course so it will be good to learn the backend server languages which should come in handy. I learned Python in college thinking I was going to do Data Analytics or AI and I like web development a lot more as I am also a musician and I really like the aspect of creating a website from nothing and the design process too. What kind of programming do you do? I have also taken html, css, and javascript from Uncle Stef's course. Learning Python first made everything easier for me...

Just got my first freelance gig. Im recently married. Kid is now baking in the over so to speak. Sadly my sales positions the last 1-2 years have slowed down massively. My family now depends on me to make the bread. Pretty hard lately. Not going to lie. Learned everything up to React. Then tried to freelance but no local business wanted a dev working on their website. Thankfully got a freelance gig through a friend. Learning PHP to get this new wordpress functionality working. Either way Stefs approach gives me some hope in a dreary state of mind that ill never be a real developer. Never really get paid for this. Never really be able to provide for my family. So thanks Uncle Stef for the words of encouragement. Praying I make it through.

"Free Frist Gig" little tip: - Be sure the other person will USE the project, so you can add it to your portfolio. - And RECOMMENDS you or CREDIT you, so other people know that you did it. * Other wise, maybe you build it, but they don't pay the hosting and get the domain, and then, you'll have nothing to show

I wish I had watched this vid before my last interview :). So i have good backend skills but not so good on html side of things. Last interview, they required me to fetch data from an api using ajax, convert it to json and apply that data to HTML table in 30 minutes. I did it, but it took me 30 minutes literally. I found out that the solution was quite simple and I could have done it in 5 minutes if I was prepared. But I was not ready for any question regarding Ajax. Should have been more prepared. Thanks for vid, I sincerely hope to get away from this horrible job and start my career on anything with coding.

honestly this industry is hyper-competitive in 2022 leading into 2023. perhaps landing some entry level jobs is possible for newcomers but most people have to grind through many interview stages at many companies to land the good gigs. after working in this industry for 12+ years I can't recommend it without a slight sense of shame because for the most part it's a job where you work unpaid overtime, spend a large part of that fixing legacy code, while trendy product managers work normal hours and expect you to do all the heavy lifting when it comes to the crunch. it might seem like a great gig if looking at social media, but most real-world software engineering jobs are glorified virtual assembly workers.

I've been thinking about doing this but I am 41 and here in the US there is a low key ageism. I had experience with c++ and a little bit of python when I was working as a Calibration tech (14yrs ago), we used to automate some of the tasks which I felt bad bcoz some people got laid off. Now I am working as a tester and most of what we test are hardware, and the closes thing in programming is updating the controller's .ini file if it needs adjustment or correction. Good luck to everyone and wishing everyone a prosperous 2023 and beyond!

@@ipponsuki Hey! We had programmed a adruino before with my daughter, I think I could use that as a project, I think we used c++ or c to do simple commands. I don't know if I could use the test automation I built for my former employer which I used Java at first then rebuilt it with python 3.xx this is a webdriver though, I also write an ATM machine program using python probably 5yrs ago hehe.... but website wise I don't have those, most of them are considered a backend programming and scripting. I probably also work on building my github account and start putting projects there. Thx!

Stefan, is it a good idea to put what programming languages and tools we use on our tech startup website? Would clients care about that? We work with data science and machine learning. I often think coding is easier than finding what (great) content to put on the website...
@umarbabajidda9664
@umarbabajidda9664 Жыл бұрын
Personally, I think it won't harm you. The clients who don't know much about tech won't care...and for the clients that know about tech and want your technology, that makes it a good match for you.
